Peter Godwin / May 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions, including your edits to Peter Godwin (singer). However, please be aware of Wikipedia's policy that biographical information about living persons must not be libelous. Any controversial statements about a living person added to an article, or any other Wikipedia page, must include proper sources. If you don't know how to cite a source, you may want to read Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners for instructions. Thank you. Akerans (talk) 00:20, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To add to this, please read Wikipedia:Ownership of articles, which explains that articles do not belong to any editor or group of editors, they are free to be edited by anyone. In addition, the burden of proof rests on those who wish to add or restore information to an article, so before re-adding the materal to Peter Godwin (singer), please cite reliable sources to comply with the verifiability policy. Thanks, please feel free to reply here, or on my talk page if you have any questions.  --Joshua Scott (LiberalFascist) 00:39, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Akerans (talk) 00:48, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please note, I brought the matter to the attention of the notice board because I did not wish to violate the the three-revert rule, or enter into an edit war with you. I understand your desire to improve the page, and am asking you please do so within the guidelines. If you feel any information is incorrect about that page I would suggest removing it first, and re-add it later when there is a reliable source. In addition, the corrections you made to the page I left alone. The only additions I removed where those not cited. In other words, the page should not be liable at present based on your changes. Warning[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Peter Godwin (singer). Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. Everard Proudfoot (talk) 01:54, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 01:00, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Appropriate sources for articles about living people[edit]

Most of the results from searches of books.google.com (except those from Icon press which is a Wikipedia mirror; and occasionally some other self published books show up such as Authorpress) and most of the results from news.google.com or their archives (except for the blogs) will be suitable as meeting our reliable source guidelines - places that have a reputation for fact checking and accuracy. Discussion at AN/I[edit]

Please note that you were mentioned in a discussion at the incidents noticeboard.

Also, if you are, or are in some way representing, Peter Godwin, there is good advice at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help. JohnCD (talk) 09:54, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

From your posts at User talk:Akerans I perceive you are concerned about incorrect information in Peter Godwin's article. We do care about incorrect information and we would like to see it removed, if you can substantiate the facts. Until this is resolved, I recommend that you not continue to make your own changes to Peter Godwin's article, but explain the problems that you see at Talk:Peter Godwin (singer). You should include published sources to back up your statements. Our articles are not advertisements and they do not need to be approved by the subject. (Your comment "only two of us are allowed to edit that.." is a misunderstanding of how Wikipedia works). If you continue to undo changes that were made by the regular Wikipedia editors, without getting support from others first, you may be blocked from editing.
