Article didn't post[edit]

I have added a reply to Wikipedia:New contributors' help page#Article didn't post. Your text can be recovered. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:47, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Even if you are not the subject, if you are "doing this page for her" you should read these guidelines:

Help request[edit]

Hi there. You posted a note to 'Tony', and used a {{helpme}}. To 'speak' to a particular user, you need to put the message on their talk page - which in this case is User talk:Tony Fox. I have copied your message there - see User talk:Tony Fox#Message from Meredith Hodges.

For more help, you can either;

  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.

The last of those is particularly useful - please try it; pop in now and say hello.  Chzz  ►  19:40, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I suspect that you may have had a technical glitch of some sort when you tried to save your article; there's no record of it existing, at all, in a saved form (as an administrator, I can see deleted contributions, etc.). I would suggest that you try creating it again, on a page in your user space. If you click on this link: User:Meredith Hodges/sandbox and edit that page, you can create the article there - be sure to press the 'save page' button instead of the 'show preview' button, which has caught a number of folks out over the years - then have it looked at by an experienced editor before it goes "live." I'd be happy to check it over for you when it's ready to go.
As you build the article, keep a few things in mind: It must not be promotional in nature, and has to be neutrally written and worded. Be sure that it has multiple references to assure that the subject is notable enough for an article here - if the notability is not up to standards, the article is likely to be deleted. Sources should be magazines, books, newspaper articles, news websites, etc.
If you need any more assistance, feel free to drop me a note on my talk page. Happy editing! Tony Fox (arf!) 20:34, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
... and yeah, the username policy has some concerns with people using the names of specific people, though sometimes I think it's a little enthusiatic. Do create a new account under a different name, and let me know when you have and I'll help you set up a sandbox page again. Sorry about that. Tony Fox (arf!) 21:15, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please choose another username[edit]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, Meredith Hodges, is the name of someone else. By your own admission you are not Meredith Hodges but are trying to create an article about her; this is regarded as impersonation and is not permitted.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

Well this doesn't make much sense - how can this user admit to not being Meredith and then be banned for impersonating Meredith. The two are mutually exclusive. At no point did this user attempt to impersonate anyone, the first chance they get they mention that they are not Meredith. This user has been open about not trying to impersonate anyone, and this block is a misuse of tools and an overzealous misinterpretation of the rules. To quote from the username guidelines, "Misleading names include... those that impersonate other people." --Orange Mike | Talk 14:52, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
