Walking Cradles

Sorry, I'm apparently doing something wrong when I try to use your deletion dispute page, because nothing is showing up.

I see no difference in terms of written information between this page and the other shoe company pages I've seen on Wikipedia – which I researched and looked into before posting this.

Category:Shoe companies

Do you simply not allow information about small companies? If so, please realize that the shoe industry is a very small world. The reason I'm putting this up on Wikipedia specifically is because of the number of designers-in-training that are ending up on our site, both from the US and internationally. It's far easier for them to be able to go down a list of shoe manufacturers and see if the company makes the kind of products they want to design than it is to go to each individual website, or such was my thinking. As you can see reading the article, the information presented specifically tells young designers what they need to know about this line. Isn't that part of the purpose of Wikipedia?

If the size of the company is the issue, then I strongly feel you need to rethink that policy, particularly when you're talking about this sort of industry. My next entry was going to be on Ars Sutoria, but if Wikipedia is just going to delete it, then I won't waste my time.

Incidentally, that's the top footwear design school in the world – and painfully difficult to find information on for young designers.

Your quick response

I would like to thank you for you quick response in blocking 24.199.235.66. Your efforts in preserving wikipedia's quality are well appreciated indeed ! Thanks again! Dread Specter 19:56, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Master Exploder

I included the {{hangon}} but you didn't allow debate. Why? There wasn't really a consensus if you delete straight away.

Please respond.

Tenacious D Fans 16:24, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please give me the chance to allow a debate. Can you let me keep Master Exploder up. If you had checked the history of Master Exploder you would have seen it started of poorly, then was agreed to be a redirect, then I made a completely new version of it. I then started the debate in the talk page and you stopped it before time.

Tenacious D Fans 16:35, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay fair enough I'll debate it there. But what do I do? Do I start a topic there? Please help?

Tenacious D Fans 16:45, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot Merope. I did everything as instructed. I'm sorry if I seemed a bit terse to start with. Please don't take it against me.

Tenacious D Fans 16:52, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why was Master Exploder deleted again? It was listed for Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2006 December 20 and the consensus was the restoration of deletion history and redirection to The Pick of Destiny. Milchama 17:48, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Merope,

Can you please let me know why the amended page for TressCox Lawyers was deleted? The text had been extensively rewritten based on the text I read of similar firms on Wikipedia. Are there any guidelines that you could suggest that I follow in order for the page to satisfy Wikipedia standards?

Victorian Era

Hiya.

You reverted a ton of work I did on the Victorian Era page because, apparently, I deleted too much that was written by others. While I understand that that is a concern, the fact of the matter is that the page is a mess and I attempted to make it better. In the wake of your revisions, I posted suggestions for revision in the talk pages and have seen no responses. There have been no substantive revisions since I made my (now reverted) edits. As it is, the page is abysmally weak and, frankly, I tell my students not to bother with it (they even complain to me about it).

Is there some process I'm supposed to go through when improving the page that I'm unaware of? I commented on 21 Dec that the page was in need of help and then, on 22 Dec posted suggestions for revision. There have been no responses.

Please don't misunderstand this message. I'm not complaining that my revisions were reverted. I'm complaining that my revisions were reverted and that I'm reluctant to make any other changes for fear of wasting my (and my students') time. As I said just now in the talk page, this is one of the reasons why more academics don't work on these pages.

In short: I want to revert the page to my changes. If I do so, will they simply be reverted again? How long am I expected to wait before I revert actions such as yours? --Str1 wsu 07:29, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Cuckundoo Records

Hi

You deleted the page of Cuckundoo Records, due to, I believe, lack of content. I was planning to update it bit by bit and did not realise that it was unacceptable to just have the Box with external links. Is it ok to proceed with the entry?

Article – OnlineLabels

Hello, I was just starting with Wikipedia learning how to create and edit. Carolyn Doran in Wiki's main office in St. Pete suggested I try to create my own page. I'm not sure why it was deleted.

The goal of my page is to create an area where people can learn about our companys history and at the same time get ideas for labeling their products. I have tons of valuable content that would help users.

Thanks for your consideration,

Matt

You can judge for yourself, but to me OnlineLabels still looks like a blatant ad, complete with a product list. Unfortunately, I think it's unavoidable that when the creator is involved (WP:COI), they think it's encyclopedic. I don't know if there's a salvageable article there or not, or if the company even meets WP:CORP to begin with. Fan-1967 22:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please undelete / unlock my page on Lorna Garman.

I may be a slow writer who has been struggling with broadband problems, but Lorna Garman was deleted far too quickly, while I was still clarifying the links and references. It was seemingly deleted without you even bothering to search wiki or google, otherwise you would have known that she was notorious in the bloomsbury set, the lover of lucian freud and laurie lee, the sister of lady epstein and is a major subject of a current best seller that is reviewed on all major literary sites. ... and reviewed on BBC Radio 4 the gold standard for intelligent radio.

Please either undelete or stop a block on the page. As a new user I don't know how to do it. Hello Merope, Thank you for undeleting the Lorna Garman page.
Thanks again. You earned it. The hostility and hardship meted out by the powerful to the sarcaste is a sad indictment of the human condition. Consider that the flatterer is no more than a hypocrite with an agenda, who so loathes and disrespects the arbiter of power that he is prepared to say any falsehood in order to attain a personal goal. The sarcaste however, speaks truthfully, if dialectically, from the heart, what you read is what is felt, although it does raise hackles and damage prospects.

Pennsylvania State High School Ice Hockey Championship

I had created a Pennsylvania State High School Ice Hockey Championship history page, it existed for 10 minutes, and then Merope deleted it. Who are you and why did you do this? Do you work for wikipedia? You posted a question on the talk page and then right after that you deleted the article. I was cleaning it up AS you were deleting it. Don't delete my articles. I am being civil but if you delete something i started without a reasonable attempt to talk about it first ill report you somehow ok. thanks.

thanks for your input. if you delete something i started again without a reasonable attempt to talk about it first ill report you. thanks. if you look around you will find:

High school football Kansas State High School Activities Association the catagory of High school sports associations in the United States

and if you keep looking you will find sites about state high school and amatuer sports championships like: Cahokia Conference List of University Interscholastic League events Royal Bank Cup

wikipedia is a free encyclopedia about everything that can be cited.

you say that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information; but wikipedias definition of an indiscriminate collection of information does not include anything like the Pennsylvania State High School Ice Hockey Championship entry i created. so, like i said wikipedia is a free encyclopedia about everything that can be cited. it is very frustrating to have some like yourself interject themselves into an entry before it is even finished and cite rules they havnt seemed to read as reasons for deletion. This is all I am going to say and is the last time I ever hope to talk to you. Thank you.

And when you have things like this on your site: Alden Shoe Company

It's a bit frustrating to get the followup I've gotten on this one.

The Logo Creator

Hello Merope. I hope all is well.

I was in the process of writing an article about The Logo Creator software. It was apperantly deleted by you before I could correct what you had intially wanted me to correct.

Please let me know what the article did that was removable. The article was written and included here on Wikepedia because it was the first of its kind in the world. A notebable fact. I had included links to Archive.org to verify this was a fact.

Thanks for any help you can provide on why the article was deleted!

- Marc—Preceding unsigned comment added by Laughingbird (talkcontribs)

Hello Merope.

Please forgive me, I'm not quite sure how to respond to your comments. You had asked me to verify that "The Logo Creator" was the first of its kind other than by providing links from Archive.org.

It was verified in a review on internet.com (http://www.wdvl.com/Reviews/Graphics/Logo/) back in 2001. No other software like this existed at the time (which is why I included the links to Archive.org. Proof that TLC was the first on the internet.

Archive.org is the best proof as it's an independent research department that collects data from the web.

Thanks for the time Merope.

- Marc

As the one who nominated it for deletion, I would also point out that Laughingbird was the name of the company that created the program, so it seems like shameless self-promotion (and probably a violation of NPOV) to me. The last sentence also said something about it being the first "and best". Philippe Beaudette 21:30, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Philippe. Fair enough.

The article was intended as point of interest. Since The Logo Creator was the first of its kind, I felt it to be a point of interest.

I will remove the 'best' part of the comment. Any chance on giving the article a second chance?

- Marc

Well, you'd need permission from an administrator to bring it back, and I'm not one. But, I think generally they'd say that if it's not written by a disinterested third party (which you clearly are not) in a neutral point of view, it's unlikely. Cashless Buyback(tm) speedy deletion -

I posted an article on Cashless Buybacks(tm). It was targeted for speedy deletion. After substantial editing, it was still "speedily deleted" as "blatant advertising" without any additional explanation.

I posted a very dramatically shortened article to stick to the bare facts. You deleted that article even faster.

Are you trying to extend knowledge or block it?? The subject of Cashless Buybacks(tm) is a matter of discussion among leading litigators (Morrison & Foerster), academics (U. of Iowa, U. Calif Berkeley, U. Colorado), periodicals (CFO magazine, Time Magazine) and has important bearing on the related topics of corporate governance and derivative securities. A paper on the subject posted on SSRN (a site which includes postings by Nobel laureates) was among the top 10 downloaded papers in the category of Corporate Finance in late 2006 – early 2007.

"Embittered atheists"

The only solution is to grow a thick skin...although this doesn't mean you have to tolerate it. I am a practising Christian, Methodist, convert (ex-atheist), who keeps getting that kind of crap over at the ID article (and elsewhere). The thing I find hilarious though is that ID is actually born of a lack of faith (Phillip E. Johnson, the father of ID, pretty much said that he couldn't believe if the bible wasn't literally true), and the idea of demanding proof is actually against the core ideas Christianity. In addition, reducing God to a tinkerer isn't in line with ideas of omnipotence. Blaming God for bad design is also anti-religious, as is the idea of saying that God is intelligently responsible for evil. In essence, ID says that God is a minor, malicious deity. So if people who see the divine in that way want to call one an atheist...you should say "thank you for not including me in your twisted world view" :) Guettarda 16:01, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Merope! No, I think the block was fine: not only that, I had a block tab open on that same user myself but you got to it first. I use a two-question test, which I used as a decline reason: is the user here to help build an encyclopedia? and if not, are they actively interfering with those of us who are? It seems to work. In addition, I don't think I have ever seen a "good" user start with a snarky post to AN/I; it's always someone looking to stir up trouble. Best, Antandrus (talk) 03:17, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your request to disengage

Regarding your "request to disengage" in the discussing regarding ID on Raspor's talk page, I have previously suggested to Raspor that he should stop discussing these issues, so as long as others are doing so, I will comply. However, I disagree with your assessment that he is not interested in improving the article. Raspor has demonstrated problems and POV in the article in a few specific ways, which would not have happened if not for the fact that he has been attempting to discuss the article. The degeneration of the discussions to discussing the issue is partly due to his own inability to express and explain himself properly, partly to his opponents' reactions to him (including vilification), and partly due to his opponents inserting their anti-ID POV into the discussions. Pah! No thanks for me, I see. Last time I revert that userpage :-) Seriously, thannks to yourself and FQ for the reverts to User:130.63.161.233's edits on my page. The quality of vandalism on my page was, frankly, poor though. What's happened to young vandals today? Eeeh, I remember when it were all fields round here (etc, etc). article deleted

Would like to know why you deleted the article entitled "Rogers Ltd., Inc. " From your notes I gather you decided the company wasn't notable enough? If so, I'd like to point out: - someone thought it was notable enough to link to from the Middletown, Oh page well before I decided to create the page. - the company is one of the 20 biggest jewelry retailers in the US - the company is historically significant locally, and is one of a handful of well known landmarks in the city.

Thanks, jh75

Hi there, I have reported a few vandals when they have been warned properly then blocked then persisted, so just out of curiosity, if they have been blocked and continue to vandalise the do you start again with the warnings or skip straight to another block?-- Tellyaddict 18:45, 18 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

You're welcome. I'm lazy enough to be considering renaming it User:Tonywalton/RV though, to save typing. Tonywalton  | Talk 19:18, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Could be worse, it could be User:Ryanpostlethwaite, who at one point was getting pleas to change his sig because the markup was just about a page long. Ryan's a gay nazi as well, by the way (or so the anon who called me one said). Tonywalton  | Talk 19:37, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Every time I gear up to speedy a page, I'm getting a message that you deleted it. You go girl, wit' yo' fast trigger finger.  :-) Philippe Beaudette 22:10, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The rest of us have rage, too, and now I'm going to have to go take up clubbing baby seals or something. I kind of like badbio with kids, because I think they really do just think (in most cases) that they can build a "homepage" here. Some of them deserve worse, though. Philippe Beaudette 22:13, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I rather like the sweetness 'n' light {{userfy warning}} myself – I use it if the CSD#A7 subject looks anything like the username who created it. I like it better since I put the Wikipedia is not myspace bit in in bold, though. It's got the "Oi! There are rules around here" for people who don't know better and probably never will, and explains properly to people who genuinely want to be proper editors. On the other hand, how about we set up sealopedia.org – the encyclopædia anyone can edit but where vandals get clubbed to death"? Tonywalton  | Talk 22:25, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
HA! I like it. I see the userfy template has gone through a lot of changes, too: it used to say, "Hey, don't post that on the main site, but post it here, instead!" and I didn't really like that. I kinda wish we could speedy delete any pages by users who have no real contributions to the encyclopedia, but that's apparently too subjective. Still, I stick with {{vanity}}, and then skip straight to {{t2a}}. -- Merope 22:28, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Put me down in favor of sealopedia.org. Of course, I'm such a deletionist that if it were up to me this thing would be sitting around 200,000 articles. :-) Philippe Beaudette 22:33, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Finally someone who can help me

I had meaningful entries for Greg Schwartz and Tim Handren (which have links on the entry for USAA). The Handren entry had more than one contributor (and I know him personally and had his approval for the content). The Schwartz entry changed to be a "redirect" to USAA and all the other content was deleted, but there was no history or anything else I could find to explain the change. I have known him for 24 years and we are friends (oh yeah he is also my CIO). The entry was true and accurate and non-critical.

Can you help me understand why their real entries were wiped out?

I'm assuming that you will understand that this

Srebrenica massacre

Do you have any idea what User:Bosniak is talking about when he says that I've "deleted huge chunks of data from [the] Srebrenica Massacre article"? I looked through a diff between my first and last edits today but as far as I can tell the only changes have been typographical (replacing hyphens with em-dashes, trimming whitespace, etc.). If I've accidentally removed information I'm happy to fix it. —Psychonaut 08:37, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Block of Bosniak (talk · contribs · logs)

Dear Merope, I saw that you blocked this user for a period of 31 hours. After reviewing the diffs as presented on the administrator noticeboard, I see a lot of potential WP:BLP violations and libellous editing. As he has been continuing his edit-warring since 15th January 2006, would you mind if I increased the duration of the block to one week? Regards, — Nearly Headless Nick 11:15, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to read over the comments (not just the diffs) at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User:Bosniak – POV pushing, WP:POINT, and bad faith assumptions, where this very issue is being discussed. Thus far there seems to be unanimous agreement (except from Bosniak himself, of course) for a long-term or indefinite block. One week is probably too short. —Psychonaut 11:28, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objection to the increase of the block duration. I only request that you mention it on the AN/I report on this user (here) and explain to the user why you are lengthening the block (which I imagine you would do anyway). Thanks. -- Merope 11:47, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thanks for your support in my RfA. I withdrew when it became clear that the uphill climb had crossed the snowball threshold, but I appreciate your support and the process gave me some good ideas for other ways I can be contributing to Wikipedia. I'll work on the areas that came up in the discussion, and try again after I've gained wider experience.

I appreciate your confidence in me, and the process has made me more interested in participating at a deeper level in Wikipedia, so even though it wasn't successful, I think it was a good experience. I'll definitely take you up on your offer of coaching.-FisherQueen (Talk) 12:22, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Online Casino Payouts

I sent you a message asking why you deleted my submission about 'online casino payouts'. I did not get any response. It seems to me that when somebody arbitrarily removes a text submitted in good fair, the least that the editor can do is offer an explation or reason. Otherwise we are into the Dictatorship of Wikipedia Editing

I spent quite a lot of time writing a piece about online casino payouts. I was careful to keep everything objective. Hardly had I pressed the 'submit' button when it was rejected out of hand by Merope, who probably didn't even read it.

So I ask, what are the chances of getting anything published on Wikipedia with this unfair and draconian approach?

400,000 Faces article recently deleted

Dear Merope: This was my first time writing an article, and it's a learning process, so I apologize if it seems that I was trying to use what I view as a great resource in a frivolous manner. My article on 400,000 faces was deleted because I did not show why it should appear on Wikipedia. I believe it should appear on Wikipedia because it is an important student organization with nearly 400,000 members nationwide. Since my tone of voice can't be ascertained through text, I am asking with full respect and not sarcastically, is this not sufficient for a Wikipedia entry? If so, how should I change the article so that it can be included? Thank you for your time and help. Kln4yd

Also, after viewing the guidelines on notability, I can cite outside sources that have written articles about the 400,000 Faces group. Will this help meet criteria? Kln4yd

Hi, thanks for the welcome message! I previously left you a message on your talk page containing my questions about an article I wrote that was deleted, but I see that I forgot to sign it in the correct way, leaving my username and timestamp. Hopefully, this will work out, and please see also the message I left regarding the 400,000 faces deletion. Kln4yd 21:00, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Merope,
We have been messaging regarding the 400,000 faces prospective entry. From your helpful information and that of Mr. Douglas, I was able to use google news to find three articles from unquestionably objective sources (Monterey Herald, San Luis Obispo Tribune, and Delware University student newspaper), and at least more one from one that seems fine, timetoprotect.org, but is itself concerned with Darfur headline news. How do I know if I now meet the notability standards? Would you say so? And what is the best way to go about integrating these outside sources into my entry? They objectively confirm much of the information I already have, should I simply cite them after this information, as references at the bottom the of the page, or as external links for further information or verification? Thanks so much for your time and suggestions, it is great to be a part of such a supportive user community!
I am sorry I am a beginner and I see that I forgot to sign the above message. Kln4yd 01:30, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the 400,000 Faces entry might be ready, I was told to check with an admin
Dear Merope,
After receiving some much-needed help and suggestions, I have improved upon and verified the 400,000 Faces article to the point where I hope it is ready to be considered as an entry. I was told to have it reviewed by an administrator and ask. It is on my user page, where you restored it. Please review it at your convenience, hopefully I can soon become a real contributor to Wikipedia!

Hi

I was wondering if you could assist me with a deletion problem I am having with another editor. As you probably do not recall you quick deleted an article I wrote about an artist a while back because I did not have alot of details in the article to start with (I thought I could add that in as I went – noob here). I wrote to you about the details of the article (the artist was museum collected, collected by notables such as members of a scion family in the art world, award winning and reported by the media etc). You said that would be fine if I cited sources, and I subsequently did some weeks ago and the article was online. Today I decided to start doing some editing, adding links to pages I maintain in an unrelated area (I collect oral histories, have several hundred, the site has been used by the National Archives, New York Times, BBC, universities, authors, national parks, students etc etc) from relevant sites. My thought was to start out this way and as time allowed start whole new articles where subjects of interest had not been covered (military unit histories was likely to be first but thats not really relevant atm I suppose).

Anyway, some spam program didnt like my links (why? I have no idea, they dont even have pop ups on em, let alone anything spamish) and when I tried to figure out what was going on a mod came in and deleted the artist article that you said would be fine.

Soo long story short, I would be most appreciative if you could undo the deletion of my article on Bob Justin (you will need to undelete it I do not have a saved copy).

Second I would appreciate finding out how I might go about linking to sites as relevant in my Museum collection without getting hassled like this? The main sites are CCC History site http://members.aol.com/famjustin/ccchis.html Military Oral History Site http://members.aol.com/famjustin/miloralhis.html

Greatly appreciate your assistance. - JJ

Deletion of "Answerbag"

I saw that you deleted the article for "Answerbag" (formerly located at "Answerbag.com") for not being "notable", and as the founder of that site, I would like to object. Answerbag is a serious site that has been around for almost four years, and it is the #2 social Q&A site next to Yahoo Answers: http://weblogs.hitwise.com/leeann-prescott/2006/12/yahoo_answers_captures_96_of_q.html. Cnet ranked our site as being equal with Yahoo Answers: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-9239_7-6634568-1.html. MIT's Tech Review thought we were notable enough to be in their Top Social Q&A sites review: http://www.technologyreview.com/InfoTech/17932/. We've been covered on TechCrunch: http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/09/07/answerbag-bets-the-farm-on-widgets-and-an-api/. How is this not notable?

It meets the notability guidelines of "The company or corporation has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company or corporation itself.", and "The company or corporation is listed on ranking indices of important companies produced by well-known and independent publications."

And last but not least, there multiple Wikipedia articles that actually cite Answerbag as a source. Red-eye flight Celebratory gunfire Dei Gratia Regina Platform game Tar Heel

Another Question

Hey Merope, another question for you. At Talk:CHAK 104 NB, the user has placed the information from the deleted (for notability) article on the talk page. Surely the info can't exist there either, can it? But... what should I do about it? I mean, I have never put a speedy tag on a talk page, but don't think the info should exist there. Also, didn't want to delete the text... Thanks for your help.... Philippe Beaudette 06:12, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
