One remark
Thank you for the new Polynomial expansion article. One remark: the links to sum and product need fixing, as they point now to disambiguation pages instead of the math concept. Thanks. :) Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:51, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Re:Graphing software
I wrote my own graphing app and I drew some graphs with it to test it. It's not quite in a state where I can distribute it to others though :) If you want an easy, free graphing tool, try Winplot. enochlau (talk) 09:37, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
LaTeX as HTML
I'm sorry, but I don't know the first thing about LaTeX, or how the Wikimedia software handles it. A good place to start or ask for advice might be meta:help:Formula. —Michael Z. 2006-03-17 04:24 Z
LaTeX rendered as HTML
Technical part:
Math it rendered as either HTML (CSS class "texhtml"), or PNG (CSS class "tex").
The rules controlling their display are [1]:
img.tex { vertical-align: middle; } span.texhtml { font-family: serif; }
Ideological part:
I didn't write that CSS, but serif is probably more like the font used to typeset math in paper math books, and someone thought it would look ugly to use sans serif for it or something like that. Sans serif is simply the default font in most browsers, so it wasn't touched. I guess that making everything serif would probably improve readability, but it's not very likely that it would be done, as too many people are used to the sans serif by now. disambiguate to limit
I notice that you've been disambiguating several links from limit to limit (mathematics). I guess the latter article is more specific and closer to the article you want, but that itself is a disambig page, disambiguating between limit of a function, limit of a sequence, net (topology), and limit (category theory). Ideally, all links to limit (mathematics) should be further disambiguated. -lethe talk + 14:53, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I didn't notice that. I'll disambiguate further in the future. --Mets501talk 14:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Also, I wonder if I can convince you to use lower case, thus:
- [[limit (mathematics)|limit]]
The problem is that the capital letter seems to cause some editors to think it is necessary to use a capital, and then they start doing it in visible links, starting a common noun with a capital letter in the middle of a sentence. Michael Hardy 02:05, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Wiki toolbar
You recommended the wiki toolbar over at the village pump. I wonder if you can help me, I downloaded it after your comment, and on the format button the no wiki parsing doesn't work, nor do user defined formats I've tried adding. I assume that I alter the text <format>SELECTION</format> to read <ref>SELECTION</ref>, and then when I click that it should insert <ref>null</ref> into the window. I'm no programmer, just an average joe, so I apologise if I'm getting something simple wrong. I also apologise if you, too, are an average joe. Steve block talk
- thanks, I see now what I was doing wrong, I wasdn't highlighting the text before clicking the format. Thanks for your help and your mentioning the toolbar in the first place. Steve block talk 16:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Accidental blanking
You just, it seems, accidentally blanked a huge chunk of WP:AN/I ([2]). Just thought I'd better let you know so you can keep an eye out for it in future... Shimgray | talk | 17:48, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 01:46, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download
Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:48, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
VandalProof revert
Hi there. Can I ask on what grounds you reverted this edit of mine to Columbo? It's not factually incorrect, and it's certainly not vandalism. If it was just a mistake, feel free to revert it back. Thanks. —Whouk (talk) 17:45, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- No problem, thanks for confirming it. —Whouk (talk) 18:05, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, Mets501, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, we will keep you updated about the results. Because you are a new member, you are not able to vote in these elections, but you will be more than welcome to take part in the elections in June.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC Tutorial written by one of our members. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Old Skool Esperanzial note
Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Your RfA
Hi, I've added a question to your RfA. I'd appreciate if you would take a look at it when you have a minute. Thanks. JoshuaZ 03:37, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- I just answered them at the RfA page. Thanks so much for the questions! They'll definitely help people make a decision one way or another. --Mets501talk • contribs 11:25, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Just wanted to express my support for a second RfA in the near future. I voted neutral, based mostly on wanting to see a little more time and experience first, but it'd be a shame to not have you as an admin here — you're quite talented. If you think to, please advise me the next time you're up for consensus. On an unrelated note, I enjoyed looking over your web site. Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 01:56, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
You just need to get some more experience with wikipedia processes like WP:AfD and then people will support you. You have heaps of good edits and I'm pretty sure that lack of WP experience was the only reason for the oppose votes. I will gladly support you on your next RfA. Good luck next time and keep up the good work! DarthVader 02:09, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks so much both of you for your votes and comments! I certainly will look into the WP:AfD process and will continue to make main space article edits as well. I'll remember to alert you when I run again later. (Thanks for the compliments as well!) --Mets501talk • contribs 02:25, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Mets, have you considered assisting at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Mathematics? You're a personable guy, and it seems right up your alley. Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 06:54, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the support on my RFA. Unfortunately, it did not achieve consensus. I look forward to your support in a couple months when I apply again. Holler at me if you need anything. ⇒ SWATJester Ready Aim Fire! 19:21, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Oglebay Park
This came up at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous#Will you review my article "Oglebay Park/Temp"?. I looked at the orignal article which you had marked as a copyvio. If you take a look at Wikipedia:Copyrights#If you find a copyright infringement you can just revert back or remove the part that's a copyvio. I've done that now and stuck out the section on Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2006 April 30. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 04:45, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry it took me so long to respond. I wasn't aware that you didn't have to mark a section as a copyvio and report it; you could just delete it and add a message on the talk page, so long as it wasn't the entire article that was a copyvio. Thanks so much for writing to tell me. Also, I merged the article from Oglebay Park/Temp into the main article. Thanks again. —Mets501talk 21:30, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
A landslide victory for The JPS (aka RFA thanks)
Hey, Mets501/Archive 1, thank you so much for your vote and comments in my RfA, which passed with an overwhelming consensus of 95/2/2. I was very surprised and flattered that the community has entrusted me with these lovely new toys. I ripped open the box and started playing with them as soon as I got them, and I've already had the pleasure of deleting random nonsense/attacks/copyvios tonight. If I ever do anything wrong, or can help in some way, please feel free to drop me a line on my talk page, and I will do my best to correct my mistake, or whatever... Now, to that bottle of wine waiting for me... |
May the Force be with you.
Dear Mets501/Archive 1,
- Thanks for voting on my RFA! I appreciate your faith in me, and was overwhelmed by the positive response to my RFA; for it shows that at least I'm doing something right. :) I've started working to improve myself already, and I hope that next time, things run better, and maybe, just maybe, one day we can bask on the shores of Admintopia together. Thanks and cheers, _-M o P-_ 21:52, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello
Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I was browsing through past RfA's (sorry that your's did not go through) and saw your answer to JoshuaZ's question recently. I hope you do not mind, but I've quoted your answer on my userpage, as something I believe important that you have described wonderfully. Let me know if you object. Have a good day, Chuck(척뉴넘) 13:28, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
MyPersonalEmail.com
Hi, please stop deleting our edits allowing information on MyPersonalEmail.com . We are following the rules, and we can figure out the AFD discussion we will get that solved. We have been noted in the Tulsa World Newspaper October 28 2001 Sunday edition and many AP sources picked up our press in their wires. Thank you for your help. You may email me at postmaster@mypersonalemail.com
Thanks for voting on my RfA
Thanks so much for voting! Thanks so much for voting on my request for adminship. I have decided to withdraw my nomination as it seems that consensus will not be reached. If you voted in support, thanks for putting your trust in me to be a good admin. If you voted in opposition, thank you as well for your constructive criticism as it will only help me be a better Wikipedian and perhaps help if/when I apply for adminship again sometime in the future.

My RFA
Uhh... Sorry I didn't think about it, I was just going to reformat the first one I liked, change the words to fit my needs and use it. Really whatever I can do to pay you back just say it. (I'm forever in your debt!) Mahogany
- I really feel stupid now so really I'll help you out in any way! Mahogany
- Don't worry about it at all! I'm honored that someone else liked my RfA note enough to use it themselves! —Mets501talk 21:35, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
I just encountered an odd edit conflict, and when I checked the Hostory, I found that I'd deleted your comments; I've gone through the History and tried to replace them all, but you might want to check that I've for them all (and got them right). Sorry about this. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:57, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Conservative Party UK reversions
I know I shouldnt bother responding to your slightly prissy administering, but I couldnt resist. Yes, I know the long term (unattainable) goal is that everything on wp be sourced, but really this just puts me off contributing. I have no idea how to cite these anecdotal but self-evidently true contribs. The whole thing is getting so formal that I'll just leave all the wrongness and incompleteness to fester next time. I'm angry. I know you dont mean any personal slight. But that is how I feel. When a fork appears of the whole damn thing, which it surely will, that people without a degree in the article's subject can contribute to without wasting their time, maybe I'll get back my community spirit. Here I go, getting the hell outta dodge...
Your vote on my RFA
Thank you for voting on my RFA, however I have decided to withdraw my nomination. Apparently, I'm not experienced enough and my RFA wasn't set up to the Wikilord's standards. Good to see that at least you see that I'm useful and trustworthy, however I'm still going to have to type out plenty of unique votes. :) —THIS IS MESSEDOCKER (TALK) 20:29, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
My RFA
Hi Mets501/Archive 1,
Thank you for supporting my RFA! Unfortunately it did not succeed mainly because most opposers wanted me to spend more time on Wikipedia. Thank you for your faith in me & looking forward to your continued support in the future.
