Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:39, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Signature[edit]

Hi. You need to link to your user page in your signature. (See Wikipedia:Signatures.) It took me quite a while to find your page. Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:48, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for May 1[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited James R. Stewart, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Centreville, MS and Morehead (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Organic semiconductor[edit]

Here's the thing about the picture that I removed and you re-inserted into Organic semiconductor. in my opinion the image violates WP:UNDUE. Its undue-ness was spread to promote the fortunes/reputation of some obscure fraudsters. So my thinking is that we dont want students or other interested parties to think that this device was some major step in the development of organic semiconductors. The device in that picture is not mentioned in any prominent textbook or research monograph in the area. It was promoted solely to promote sockpuppet Proctor and his advisor, who coauthored the work resulting in this image. So would you reconsider your reversion? Cheers,--Smokefoot (talk) 23:18, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Please see WP:BLOGS: "Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established expert on the subject matter, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications." (emphasis in original)

Please cite reliable sources for the information you have added to Black Star Line. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 18:57, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Malik Shabazz. I haven't been editing for a while. Did not know that is the policy. The information provided is valid and has links to sources in the blog. The main thing is that I corrected the incorporation date which the article listed as the 23rd when it is actually the 27th. Also, added information to correct the impression that Marcus Garvey was a one man band who did all kinds of miraculous things all by himself in listing the directors and officers of the corporation.

So far it seems like I have written more about the information I shared than the actual information I wrote. Did it change the article that much?

First, I wasn't questioning whether your additions were improvements. There's no question that they are. Thank you.
I hadn't noticed the links from your blog to its sources. That helps quite a bit. Thanks again. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 21:16, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

October 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Diego Ortiz de Zúñiga. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! I moved the Sable Venus stuff to here, where it belongs. The article doesn't actually say it was inspired by Botticelli, & it pretty clearly isn't - he was deeply unfashionable in 1791 & Stothard would probably have never seen his BoV. But the Galatea (Raphael) was very famous, & it derives from that, Poussin, & other Baroque treatments. Its certainly a strange and striking image. The New Yorker author, evidently no art historian, doesn't seem aware of the Hottentot Venus trope. Johnbod (talk) 01:11, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a consensus that it was inspired by Botticelli.

This is the main source of that idea to me.

Hmm, I've accepted their invitation to "share your knowledge" on that point. Johnbod (talk) 15:15, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

— Be sure to let them know that in the poem which preceded the etching can be found these words:

Her sister Venus chose [1]

The etching was based on a lost painting which preexisted Bryan Edwards' book "The History, Civil and Commercial, of the British Colonies in the West Indies, Volume 2". In it the etching is included with the above referenced ode.[2]
