Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mktg.bmc. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Building Materials Holding Corporation, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MarioGom (talk) 21:50, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Mktg.bmc", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username, by completing this form, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. --MarioGom (talk) 22:11, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

August 2018[edit]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Orange Mike | Talk 23:17, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I was making contributions to a company website with factual information. I don't believe that the information I provided was promoting the company, but instead was general about the company information. I understand this to be in violation of the terms with wikipedia so I'm happy to provide this information via a talk page to be updated by a neutral party. I'm also happy to provide further citations to ensure the page is accurate. Michelle.BMC (talk) 15:20, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Decline reason:

This is not an accurate description of your edits. "innovative solutions" "attractive, fast-growing", "industry-leading eBusiness technology platform", "improve operating efficiencies", etc. If you think this is not promotional, you are too involved to be considered for unblocking. Nor is it clear you have read, let alone understood or plan to abide by, WP:COI. Yamla (talk) 15:27, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am again requesting for this account to be unblocked. After reading the content policies I understand that I need to disclose my affiliation with the page I am requesting to update and that there must be a neutral point of view posting the content. From my understanding, any updates that are to be made should be done by posting the updates in the talk page and having it reviewed prior to final posting of that information. If I am incorrect, please let me know. I would like to have the opportunity to submit edits for review. I can remove any information that intends to promote the company as we only want to be able to contribute fact-based information. I understand that further citations and sources should be submitted to ensure the information on the page is accurate. Michelle.BMC (talk) 18:19, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

  • I think you may have a misunderstanding as to what Wikipedia is. Wikipedia is not a forum for businesses to tell the world about themselves. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, which exists to summarize what independent reliable sources state about a subject, indicating how it is notable as Wikipedia defines it; in the case of a business, that is defined at WP:ORG. Wikipedia has little to no interest in what an article subject wants to say about itself.
While you are correct that edit requests on talk pages are the correct way for someone in your position to suggest changes to an article in the area of their conflict of interest, I'm concerned that you just want to submit requests to merely tell the world about your company, sourced to your own website, just written with less marketing puffery. Do you have independent sources with in depth coverage of your company?(that are not press releases or basic business announcements) 331dot (talk) 20:19, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
