Hiya, Sierra

[edit]

I'm an administrator here on Wikipedia. Someone brought up a concern with your username today (at WP:UAA, but you don't need to worry about that) since the username is so close to the company name (Advanced Micro Devices), and we have a policy against usernames that represent a business, organization or website as opposed to an individual. This has a lot to do with our copyright policy; individuals own the copyright on whatever they write here (licensing it for free use so that the information travels freely), not Wikipedia and not the company you work for, so a name that's supposed to represent an entire company creates a problem: who has the copyright? But as long as we're clear that this is your account and not AMD's account, we should be fine.

I'm in Greensboro, not far from one of AMD's locations. Let me know if you encounter any problems. Happy editing. - Dank (push to talk) 20:11, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. WP:BESTCOI is a pretty good page of advice on how to edit as a company employee without getting your edits reverted and getting into trouble. The bottom line is that you'll get the best results if you don't create any new articles about your company, and if you can give people links to reliable sources that describe your company and your products, or post those links on AMD web pages and point us to those webpages, then talk about any concerns you have about any of our articles on the talk pages of those articles, and hopefully someone will listen and make some solid edits in response. Again, if you have trouble finding help, let me know. - Dank (push to talk) 20:19, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dank, Thank you for your note and advice. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me learn more about the editing process. I look forward to working with the community to make the AMD entry a more accurate and current resource. I have let the community know that I will not directly edit the AMD-entry and will only make suggestions as to things that should be changed or updated in the entry's talk pages. Thanks again! Sure thing. I'll stop watching your page now, so if you have more questions, direct them to my talk page. - Dank (push to talk) 21:54, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest

[edit]

Hi, I am concerned about your possible COI in editing AMD pages. Single purpose accounts are generally not encouraged and Generally it is not a good idea for company marketing/pr teams to edit the articles of thier employer/client. This is an inherent conflict of interest and there is really no way to verify you are who you say you are. Feel free to edit any articles not releated to amd however, any unsourced additions or dubious deletions will have to be removed as COI and Original Research until a neutral party can source and verify the info. adding well sourced references and no POV language, and obtaining consensus on the articles talk pages as well will help things move along smoother. thanks -Tracer9999 (talk) 03:11, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tracer9999, Thank you for your note. I understand your concern. I will not edit AMD-related pages directly to avoid any COI issues.Micro Devices (talk) 21:40, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks sierra, If you notice any pertinent items missing from any of the AMD pages and you have problems getting anyone to add/discuss them on the talk pages, feel free to message me on my talk page with the addition and a source if you can find one and I will be happy to add it for you so we can keep the pages up to date. -Tracer9999 (talk) 22:48, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
