Workington North railway station

Congratulations on beating me to creating the article. If we can get it up to 1,500 bytes of text in the next few days I'll nominate it at DYK. Mjroots (talk) 11:09, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

No problem re the assistance. The pages linked from the welcome message will come in useful. WP:CITE is useful for references. Mjroots (talk) 12:28, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

DYK Nomination

Hi. I've nominated Workington North railway station, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article here, where you can improve it if you see fit. Mjroots (talk) 21:10, 25 November 2009 (UTC) Mjroots (talk) 21:10, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Looking good, I've changed the end of the hook so the word town isn't repeated, what do you think? (Feel free to edit it further obviously) Mike1901 (talk) 21:17, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
I tweaked the hook a bit more. Mjroots (talk) 21:38, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
The hook has now been approved for DYK, shouldn't be too long now before it appears on the main page. Mjroots (talk) 08:20, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Workington North railway station

Updated DYK query On December 2, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Workington North railway station, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

RideLondon-Surrey 100

Hi, there isn't a RideLondon-Surrey 100 page as this was the sportive event during the RideLondon festival but is a seperate entity.

Apologies - realised you were correct on a second look. Have removed the tag. Just as an aside, please remember to sign your posts on other people's talk pages (with 4 '~') so they don't have to look into the page history to find out the author. :-) Mike1901 (talk) 15:06, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, will do that in future, thanks! :) Roseofwinter (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:12, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Gazi Hajdar Kadi Mosque

Hello Mike1901. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Gazi Hajdar Kadi Mosque, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7 doesn't apply to centers of worship (elegible subjects are persons, individual animals, organisations, web content and events. Thank you. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:51, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

AFerry

Hi Mike, just to say sorry for the soap-boxing here and the apparent reposting. We had an intern working on this and then I took over and probably reposted as I was learning. I'm working on a version that is fully referenced and non-promotional that I hope (fingers crossed) should pass. Thanks. ~~Francis~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.207.152.132 (talk) 09:19, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

No problem - happy to help! Note that it is generally not a good idea to write a Wikipedia article about your own organisation - it will likely come across as biased, even if you try to make it encyclopedic. Also, unless it can be proved that your company is notable by several external sources, it is not ready to go onto Wikipedia. In short, Wikipedia is not an advertising platform. Mike1901 (talk) 09:37, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Mike, thanks. I've got a few sources, books, newspapers, etc. Hopefully it should be okay but I'm working on it now in my userspace. Would you be able to have a look once its done before I try and make it live? Thanks very much. ~~Francis~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.207.152.132 (talk) 09:56, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Mike,

I've updated the entry. It has plenty of references. I believe we are notable. However, I don't want to be banned for soap-boxing or gand-standing. Can you please check it out before I risk re-posting? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:GoldenClockCar/AFerry --~~Francis~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.207.152.132 (talk) 13:41, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello Mike. I saw you tagged my page as a speedy deletion. I understood the criticism and updated the page. We are important to prevent cyber bullying. It would be a shame if you deleted the page because we help a lot of bullied children. I created the page to make us be more famous so more people can find us and talk to us if they have issues with bullying. We also alert supercell who invented the game if we spot any racist-clans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_House_of_shock --Constantin Johnson~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Constantin Johnson (talkcontribs) 21:16, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately Wikipedia isn't designed to make organisations more famous - there needs to be some pre-existing notability from reputable sources, before creating the page. Mike1901 (talk) 21:28, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

LOL thanks! I did Elizabeth O'Bagy but then realized it was a little pointless to have that and not one on the SETF. Speedy deletion nomination of The Place, Bedford

Hello Mike1901,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged The Place, Bedford for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Swpbtalk 13:36, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

  • I moved it to User:Mike1901/The Place, Bedford, where you can have more time to work on it in relative peace. Feel free to move it to the mainspace when it's ready for the big show. WilyD 17:39, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion Request Bob Ives UK

Hi,

The page Bob Ives UK should not be deleted. He has participated in many acknowledged international events. His name appears on both trophy pages here: Camel Trophy and Segrave Trophy, so it's only natural he has his own Wikipedia page. So therefore his content is relevant and does hold significance due to already appearing on Wikipedia multiple times. — Preceding User:Fluffyghost (talk) 11:56, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! I don't personally have an issue as such with the notability - the issue is that nowhere on the page have any references been placed to notable sources, in order for the community to verify that notability. Especially for biographical articles such as this, I would suggest using your Sandbox (link at the top-right hand corner of every page) to start drafting the page, then you can always put it onto the public encyclopaedia itself when it's more developed. (Don't worry too much at first if your referencing formatting is a tad off, so long as it's clear they're there to verify notability, the community can always tidy these for you :-) ) Mike1901 (talk) 12:46, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi, Thanks! Would referencing to the trophy pages not count as a notable source? What would you advise I link too? As the all the content already exists. A little confused by this. I have placed the content in the sandbox too, but I need this page to stay live. User:Fluffyghost
No - you're referencing other Wikipedia pages there - which cannot be a source in their own right. You need to be linking to external sources which aren't fan-generated - news sites and the like. The page is getting there now though - I'll give you a hand when I get some time this evening! I'll kill the deletion tag - but that doesn't stop others reinstating it if they disagree! Mike1901 (talk) 13:02, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi, I have linked to the official trophy past winners list, so hopefully this will clarify my source. Thank you very much I really appreciate that! This is a little overwhelming. Right, at least my page will be left alone for a little bit. How quickly can a page get deleted once it's been selected for the speedy deletion request? I will move all my updates to my sandbox just encase. Also I want to upload an image onto the page. I don't seem to have a confirmed account. What would I do achieve this?User:Fluffyghost
I've removed the tag and put an Under Construction tag in it's place - that should hopefully mean people will leave it alone from a referencing POV for now! I'll do some tidying on the page this evening (UK time) and will try and get some suitable references in there at that point if no-one else gets there first. With regards to the images - make sure you've confirmed your email address (you should have got an e-mail from Wikipedia with a link to click) Mike1901 (talk) 13:34, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help. That would be great! The page is starting to come together, still awaiting on some more external links and content but almost there. Right, can that email be resent? If so where would I find this option? As I don't believe I've received it. Would it be ok to add a "did you mean Bob Ives UK" on the official Bob Ives page? As there two separate people, but I want users to be able to find Bob Ives UK if they search just Bob Ives? User:Fluffyghost
Not a problem! I see you've resolved your issue uploading pictures which is good! I've tidied the article name slightly to fit in with Wikipedia's naming standards - don't worry, the old page will redirect. I've also put a link in at the top of the Bob Ives (politician) page as you've suggested above. Mike1901 (talk) 20:31, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Hey, I'm having to upload to the Wiki commons currently. Thank you for editing it accordingly it looks a lot better already! And happy to see a link on the Bob Ives (politician) page, that's great! I have more amends for the page as well as the Joe Ives page I shall be implementing on Monday. Hopefully this won't effect the under construction time period? Have a good weekend! Jean Fourton deletion

Hi,

I really don't understand wy my page about Jean Fourton was deleted, I spent hours completing the article with references and I contested the deletion with a message, and now it's gone, no traces can be found!? I'd like to know why you've done this. I did explain myself why this person has an importance in arts and psychoanalysis history. Furthermore, the article fits the rules and references were good.

Could you explain your deletion? Are you able to cancel this, and make the article available again?

Thank you

Euan Sellers

Hello I am the producer of the page Euan Sellers. I am looking to create a page on myself and are just wandering why my page is on speedy deletion. I am not happy with this and want to know do I have to use another website to create a page on myself or am I able to do this using Wikipedia. Thank You Euan Sellers — Preceding unsigned comment added by SellersE (talkcontribs) 15:59, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi, unless you can prove notability, Wikipedia is not the place to promote yourself. (and in any case, even if notability can be proven, it is not a good idea to write about yourself on Wikipedia in any case generally speaking). Mike1901 (talk) 16:15, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
I should also add that your user page can be used to talk about yourself, in the context of you as a Wikipedia user. Mike1901 (talk) 16:19, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Emotion Media Factory

Hi, I have noticed that this page is marked for the speedy deletion. The reason why this page was created is not to promote the company or the name, but to give the insight who is standing behind the attractions like Multimedia Fountain Roshen (the largest in Europe), AIDA cruises etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinnytsia_Fountain_Roshen

The same companies working in attraction industry already listed on wiki with the exact the same content: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WET_(company) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_Rides

If there is a space for improvement of this page to avoid its removal, I would appreciate your assistance. Kind regards, Laserland — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laserland (talkcontribs) 18:36, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello!I saw you restored the changes I made on the article about Jorge Horacio Brito. My edits were not a mistake. I compared the two versions in conflict and I believed that the article was victim of vandalism, so I changed to a more "cleaned" version. Re: North Korea Edit

Hi Mike,

It may not be constructive to put jokes about North Korea, but it sure is funny. Can't we please just let one joke about North Korea stand, for the good of the project!? Even if its not the Nodong gag, I think it would be good to use humour to force North Korea to take a good hard look at themselves. All else has failed so far, why not? Maybe if North Koreans happen to sneak into the internet on a Chinese sim card and look at their country on wiki, seeing our joke(s) about their government may make them realize that they can and should question their government. Like, why can't I put that Kim Jong Il had no butthole, and didn't need to defecate according to propaganda? Does Wikipedia only like facts that don't offend people? Whats more important, the truth or being "PC"?

I understand that Wikipedia needs facts only, but we could sneak it in the reference or something, that it is just a joke maybe? Or at least allow my edit about the butthole... That one is verifyable with a reference. So much crap makes it on here, whats one more little nugget? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.183.76.53 (talk) 09:29, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Royal Signals

You have accused me of vandalism, even though the Wikipedia guidelines state that no good faith posting should be deemed vandalism.

Far from being hostile to the Corps, I am a former Signalman, and a life-member of the Royal Signals association. You assert that my post is inaccurate - what knowledge places you in a position to challenge my personal experience? I ask not in order to be confrontational, but genuinely to establish the basis for your claim.

Do you have service in the British Army or specialist knowledge of Royal signals practices and customs? If not I would politely suggest that the onus is on you to justify your accusation, not on me.

I repeat my affirmation that to my personal knowledge, the motto Certo Cito was almost universally , albeit unofficially translated by Corps personnel as "Shit or Bust".

By their very nature, it is rarely, if ever, possible to provide citations for colloquial usages, I have found reference to this usage on urban dictionary.com.Kettering Ken (talk) 20:47, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

Firstly, apologies if you feel I was unfair in determining your post as vandalism. It's quite difficult to determine what is/isn't vandalism with this sort of edit, especially when you don't use an edit summary (I'll explain this in detail on your talk page). To answer your question, Wikipedia requires information to be backed up by a reliable source - unfortunately personal experience alone (without any reference to back it up) is not sufficient. Messages among users.

I'm having great difficulty directly addressing other users. I had made amends to the James Holmes page as at least two glaring pieces of misinformation are contained in the Wikipedia article. I amended it...three times. Three times somebody changed it back and I was made to feel in the wrong, despite the article being wrong. Suffice to say if Wikipedia wishes to allow misinformation to stay that's there business, it just diminishes their reputation. My issue is I was unable to address the people directly and still can't. Any help regarding how to message would be appreciated. I'm resorting to this as I cant find an alternative. Thank you. Godabove09 (talk) 07:50, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

This sort of thing is why we have article talk pages. Put your query (and back it up with sources!) on there (talk:James Holmes (mass murderer)) if people keep reverting you - it's likely that some discussion needs to take place to ascertain consensus. Mike1901 (talk) 07:54, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
If you wish to allow incorrect information that's OK.
A link to a piece of misinformation in the medIa doesn't hold up...but fine.
The piece will remain, with the two lies in place and your site will be diminished as a respected source because of it...it's a slippery slope. Godabove09 (talk) 07:53, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
I must amend my message, Mike, as I see I may not be in the right place.
My comment is still valid, but forgive me if you are confused and I'm in the wrong place. Godabove09 (talk) 07:56, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

The headline says it all. You cannot call a giraffe a zebra. So why then are the names reversed again? Because they "do not appear constructive"? What is that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.87.96.235 (talk) 08:56, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

The file name of the picture (and Google image searches) categorise this differently. If you're going to change this, please cite a reliable source for the change in name. Mike1901 (talk) 10:19, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
