re:Billboard new Hot 100 chart

Hi Mike! I get my Billboard info from their online services. billboard.com usually posts the new number one album on Wednesday afternoon - sometimes they'll also mention the new number one single. As far as other charts go, I am a paid subscriber to the magazine which gives me access to all the charts online, usually on Thursdays, at billboard.biz. I sometimes see wikipedia chart articles updated pretty early - I don't know what other editors' sources are, but my rule of thumb is to not update that stuff til Billboard officially publishes it. -- eo 11:56, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Jim Croce

Hey. Last August you added in the following to the Jim Croce article:

Recently, his widow, Ingrid, was allowed to obtain the permissions from daughter

 Heidieh Croce all of his songs. Since then, Ingrid has allowed a PBS special to be made from archive footage as well as footage from the Croce family collection, in order to, in her words, "keep his legacy alive".

I swore I'd never come back to this crazy site, but I'm glad I snuck a peek at my old user page. I'm glad there's at least one person who misses me.

I'm hanging around some other interest-specific wiki sites, especially a radio control wiki at Wikicities which I've been busily adding to. Phroziac is the founder and she made me an admin off the bat and later a bureaucrat, although I haven't used the bureaucrat function. Shkarter1985 sounds very angry about something, I have no idea what. But, in any case, the Dark Shadows page is back to the version we agreed upon, so my inclination is to let it be.

Could you weigh in at the bottom of the Talk Page for Katelyn Faber regarding the inclusion of an image of her? User:Tufflaw, who unsuccessfully tried to have the entire article deleted back in December 2005 insists on censoring/deleting it for extremely specious reasons, and I've been asked to gather a consensus. POV?

Mike, how can there be a point of view in a school's history such as that one that I wrote? I said nothing controversial, didn't accuse anyone of anything, didn't say anything outrageous, didn't really tell the school's history through anyone's eyes in particular; so why is my version POV? I think you're wrong. As it stands now, the history section reads like a rather dull, uninteresting government report about turnip production or city sanitation. What other conclusion are readers likely to be led to if I include words like "only" or "utterly" in this article (I didn't use the latter anyway)?

The other is a vocabulary lesson:

The word "temperamental" when applied to a device, means "having a tendency to do unexpected things", which is how I meant it. Please check this out if you don't believe me (Definition 3).

Years on VSE article

I didn't input any years so I think you have me confused with someone else. All I put were examples of very special episodes. Someone else is putting the years. In my history I'm saying the examples I entered were real because frankly, some of them were out there LOL. But that's how sitcoms used to be back then. But let me say this, I applaud that person for making such an effort. Yeah, he was but I'm still not sure the best way to handle this. There was a discussion around the Mayor of Atlanta page where we ended up puting a "no official party affiliation" disclaimer at the top then listed the party by each office-holder -- especially in the 1870s it was interesting to see who was aligned with who. Another World fan

I was a huge fan of Another World, particularly in the 60s, 70s, & early 80s. I stopped watching it in the later years. I was surprised to find your page of Another World actors and have added several that came to my mind. I will add any others that I can think of. DannyBartlett 20 June 2006

I think one thing that distinguishes Another World is that so many of the actors who appeared on the program went on to primetime TV and movies, such as Ray Liotta, Kyra Sedgwick, Morgan Freeman, Faith Ford, Susan Sullivan, Ted Shackelford. Mike, I did watch Guiding Light for several years in the 80s. In fact, at one point I was taping both AW and GL and watching in the evening after I got home from work. A friend at work got me started on GL and after I started watching, I went back and read about the earlier history of the show. I remember the storyline regarding Bert's amputation very well. I had stopped watching by the time Charita Bauer's death was actually incorporated into the storyline, but always wondered why the writers waited so long to address her death. I recently got Harding Lemay's book Eight Years in Another World on interlibrary loan and skimmed through it again. I read it several years ago when it first came out. I came across an article about actor Mike Minor which needed a lot of revision. When checking his listing at imdb.com, I discovered that he had appeared on AW. I remembered the character once I saw the name, but could never have come up with the name of the actor playing the part. Have you ever been told, you have a natural talent to capture your readers' interest with your choice of subjects and your writing style? Your new article is beautiful, and considering its historical importance, perhaps we should add links to it from other related topics, like Television commercials. A couple of very minor points you may find useful: AFAIK, the campaign started in 1954, not 1955 [1]; and apparently, James Garner narrated the original ad, and once claimed responsibility for the grammar mistake as he misread it the first time [2]. I'm stupid. Please help

Hey Mike! I may edit like a fiend, but I'm a bit fuzzy on some of the background stuff on Wikipedia.

I think we have a dispute brewing on the Benjamin Hendrickson article and I'm not sure what steps need to be taken next. We have someone who is reverting the details of his death out of the article, and their comments in edit summary are getting increasingly nasty. That vs. which

It seems to me that someone who spends a ton of time writing an article about grammatical correctness, patting himself on the back all the way about what a great article he's written, ought to pay a little more attention to elementary grammatical rules himself, especially in the first sentence of the article. I see what you're saying but that's a rather silly reason to separate them, don't you think? They're the same song - one could redirect to the other.... set it up just like all the other song articles in WP covered by different artists. Bananarama covered the song as well and released it as a single, although I don't know if they used commas. Sometimes song titles get abbreviated or parenthesis are added in the remake, etc. Should "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison and "(Oh) Pretty Woman" by Van Halen have separate articles? -- eo 00:51, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks re Thanks. Carmen Duncan's appearances in Number 96 were during 1973 when the series was still in black and white. She appeared in no colour episodes of the show. Australian TV officially switched to colour at Easter 1975 although there were test colour broadcasts for several months prior to this. The initially planned switch to colour was put back after Aust committed to participating in the Vietnam war. Number 96 began taping episodes in colour in the later months of 1974; its first colour test broadcast was in November 1974 - Josephine Knur's final episode. Unfortunately nearly all the b&w episodes of Number 96 have now been wiped. Being b&w on TV is probably a major factor in the production of the Number 96 feature film - now on DVD - in full colour super grainy 16 mm! Asa01 21:10, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Problematic User

Hello, there. I've noticed a Wikipedian, User:Yrgh, who has been adding rumors to various soap opera articles. While normally I would not report this to an admin, he reverted the changes I made and re-added his rumors, which was very annoying. Whatever you could do would be helpful; his rumors are starting to be reported on message boards w/ people saying, "Well, Wikipedia said..." Juppiter 01:55, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
