Large Wikidata Query query

I'm trying to do several large WD queries to obtain a list of all en.wiki articles with a certain property, like this, but I always reach the timeout limit. VIAF ID (P214) is the largest query (~730k), but I need 5 others as well which also time-out (P7859, P244, P213, P227, P268). Do you know if/how I can get these lists?   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  13:25, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

@Tom.Reding: Try breaking up the query into parts - use something like 'LIMIT 100 OFFSET 100' at the end, then step the offset until you've retrieved all the values. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 13:32, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Tic on KELT-10 & XO-6

Hi Mike, Do you know what Tic should be disambiguated to on KELT-10 & XO-6?— Rod talk 10:21, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

@Rodw: I think it's the Tess Input Catalogue. I don't think we have an article for it. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 11:54, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks - redlink added. Could you take a look at the "other designations" in the infobox of HD 77887. I've managed to work out some of the abbreviations but others escape me.— Rod talk 09:05, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
@Rodw: If you go to Simbad, under 'Identifiers', each of the identifier codes has a hyperlink to a definition. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 09:14, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks - that has helped fix all but CPD & bookmarked for future use.— Rod talk 09:24, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Instead of destroying my work, you could do something constructive, don't you think?

Stop pushing your autist problems on me or my work. The links are added for a reason; usefulness. Your destructive behavior is not. Stop it and spend your time on something constructive. Thanks. Tisquesusa (talk) 20:37, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

@Tisquesusa: Yes, I just saw your reverts. I was getting a sense of deja vu, and then I checked the category history. Your edit summary at [2] was particularly insightful (<redacted>). Why are you adding these links? They don't seem to match the rather specific topics you are creating categories for. Perhaps you could expand the category tree on Commons? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:43, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
Escalated to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents after seeing your other edit summaries. Mike Peel (talk) 21:01, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Minor League Baseball categories with links to different ones on Commons

Just wanted to explain that the reason for several Minor League Baseball (MiLB) categories having links to Commons ones with different names is due to the recent MiLB league realignment. Each affected league with a category on Commons was replaced by a league with the corresponding category on the English Wikipedia. For example, the Texas League was replaced by Double-A Central, so Commons category Texas League appeared in English Wikipedia category Double-A Central. Even doing a search for a new league on the official MiLB web site merely shows the new league's name at the top of the replaced league's page. Thus, the teams and ballparks in the affected categories are applicable to the new leagues, but their corresponding Commons categories have not yet been created, or possibly will just be moved from the those of the old leagues. So, I temporarily linked to the existing Commons categories. Waz8:T-C-E 01:43, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

@Waz8: Ah, I see, thanks for the explanation. I think it's better to create the Commons categories first, or at least add some context on Commons, otherwise the links are rather confusing. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 09:57, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
OK, I will add a comment to each affected Commons category explaining the relationship before I add the Commonscat template back to the corresponding English Wikipedia category. If the changes were not so extensive due to subcategories, I would create/move the new leagues' categories myself (although that may eventually be the case). However, I am in the midst of helping to update the affected articles, templates, and categories here. Thanks! Waz8:T-C-E 17:17, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • A request for comment is open that proposes a process for the community to revoke administrative permissions. This follows a 2019 RfC in favor of creating one such a policy.
  • A request for comment is in progress to remove F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a, which covers immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
  • A request for comment seeks to grant page movers the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target. The full proposal is at Wikipedia:Page mover/delete-redirect.
  • A request for comment asks if sysops may place the General sanctions/Coronavirus disease 2019 editnotice template on pages in scope that do not have page-specific sanctions?
  • There is a discussion in progress concerning automatic protection of each day's featured article with Pending Changes protection.

Technical news

  • When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
  • When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
  • There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).

Structured data across Wikimedia is starting!

Hi Mike! I hope you're fine. :) I sent you an email some days ago about Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW), the new WMF project that is about to start, and I wanted to be sure you received it.

Please do not feel pressured by this message! I'm just curious if you can (or want) to drop a line in the talk page, or if you know other user(s) that can be interested in the topic.

Hope to hear from you soon! --Sannita (WMF) (talk) 17:14, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Something's not quite right

Hi, Mike - please see this edit which I reverted, and then look at the user's TP. I'm wondering if maybe it has been hijacked? Atsme 💬 📧 21:10, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

@Atsme: Sorry, I'm mostly on a wikibreak at the moment, if you think the account's hijacked then you might want to post at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 10:55, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

... your evidence for RexxS. Just too late. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:50, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: Thanks. I hope it's not too late, but I know the odds are against it. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 10:54, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
In my evidence, I posted one diff, of RexxS speaking of his/our passion for the project. I'm afraid his passion is gone, no matter how the outcome of the case. He wouldn't be the first, and that's what makes me sad. Anyway, we who are stubborn enough to stay will have MUCH MORE work, without him doing it. Guess what, at church today, they sang my song of defiance ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:22, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
