Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Chipmunk Aircraft WP860.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Chipmunk Aircraft WP860.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 15:13, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Files listed for deletion

[edit]

Some of your images or media files have been listed for deletion. Please see Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2009 June 6 if you are interested in preserving them. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 15:28, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stifle...

Thank you for your help and guidance. I fully understand and appreciate your point. I know the copyright holders for some of the images where I will endeavour to help them upload their images for free use/distribution on Wikipedia. I was just trying to help as some of this is a bit daunting !

I will delete the images now from my article but retain the gallary frame code for later use if I may.

Please see my other note regarding the No. 1 AEF Unit Badge where I have declared a revised tag.

Kind regards...

Mike.

Possibly unfree File:1AEF Manston.png

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:1AEF Manston.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. --Stifle (talk) 15:51, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stifle...

I've just started working with Wikipedia and apologise for perhaps not getting the conventions right first time !

I have now added a Non-free symbol tag with a completed Non-free use rationale. I have also substantially reduced the resolution of the graphic representing the Unit Badge/Emblem of No 1 AEF whilst based at RAF Manston in Kent. This Unit Badge is of historic significance as No. 1 AEF disbanded at RAF Manston in 1995. The original Badge/Emblem was designed by the staff of No. 1 AEF at the time. I was a member of No. 1 AEF staff.

Please reconsider the continuing use of this graphic within the article I have authored.

Kind regards...

Mike.

Replaceable fair use Image:EddieCrushKent Cap.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:EddieCrushKent Cap.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 15:54, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stifle...

I note your comments in reply to my further use rationale for my fathers picture. I'm really struggling here as my mother (the owner of the print) is unable to upload in her own right and declare free-use on Wikipedia. It would be a shame not to be able to use this image as it adds sustantially to the article I have authored. Would reducing the resolution further be of any value ? Your advise/guidance would be much appreciated.

Kind regards...

Mike.

File:Chipmunk Aircraft WP860.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:Name.ext, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Mikecrush (talk) 16:16, 6 June 2009 (UTC) --Mikecrush (talk) 16:16, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me here... what is the main concern ? Should I reduce the resolutions further ?

Image issues

[edit]

The main issue with these images is that Wikipedia aims to be a free encyclopedia, so non-free content is used as little as possible. We can't have huge galleries of non-free images; it makes a mockery of the concept of a free encyclopedia. Stifle (talk) 18:03, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Chipmunk Aircraft WK518.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Chipmunk Aircraft WK518.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:33, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:AEF Pegwell.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:AEF Pegwell.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 09:54, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Eddie Crush

[edit]

Hi. Just so as you know, I'm likely to work my way through this article over the next few weeks to bring it more in line with standards and to add sources. That will probably involve moving some of the images to the bottom of the page to increase readability and removing some of the "opinion" from the page where I can't find a source to back it up. I'm assuming that Eddie was a relative of yours and I wanted you to appreciate that I'm simply trying to bring the article into line with the sort of thing we're looking to build here in terms of an encyclopaedia rather than anything else. You've given me lots to work with which is really helpful. If there are any other sources available - books and the like - they'd be very helpful. Thanks Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:06, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
