Listing images for deletion[edit]

When you list an image on Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion you have to inform the uploader by adding a message to their talk page. You can use {{subst:idw|Image:Image name.ext}} (replace "Image name.ext" with the name of the image or media). --Thanks Nv8200p (talk) 21:24, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh thanks. I didn't know that. P.S. Some of the articles created by me were deleted without letting me know. What was it different? --minghong 05:54, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User Categorization[edit]

You were listed on the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Hong Kong page as living in or being associated with Hong Kong. As part of the Wikipedia:User categorisation project, these lists are being replaced with user categories. If you would like to add yourself to the category that is replacing the page, please visit Category:Hong Kong Wikipedians for instructions. Rmky87 18:46, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your good editing of he subject page. I appreciate it. If you see other improvements, please feel free. Phil talk 20:45, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Past tense in English[edit]

With complex predicate (not sure it's called this way, but it doesn't matter), only the first verb is changed to reflect the tense. E.g. "I saw him come" (as in Daniel 8:7), but never "I saw him came"; "you saw him go" (as in Acts 1:11), but never "you saw him went". --tyomitch 03:22, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. and past tense of rise is rose, not rised, anyway ;-)

Oops. Thanks for fixing that. :-) --minghong 06:20, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

SQL isn't relational[edit]

It seems (like most people, don't worry, vendors are working hard to misinform us) that you didn't get my point in renaming and splitting relational into SQL and relational. SQL isn't relational at all, have never been and never will be. Once it even tried too, but it gave up since at least ISO SQL:2003. AFAIK only FirstSQL still tries to reach relational sanity, and to what extent is doubtful.

So it is just a question of putting references like 'SQL aren't here anymore' and tidying up the rest. Feel free, I won't be able to tackle this right now.

-- LeandroGFCDutra 17:10, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You are quite right, ORDBMS should be fixed and renamed. Just that I can't do it today... will do tomorrow God willing, and if you don't do that first.

Visual Basic Classic wikibook[edit]

I see you have contributed to the StarBasic article on Wikipedia. Any chance you would like to join in editing the wikibook: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Programming:Visual_Basic_Classic? --Kjwhitefoot 11:07, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, did I? Probably… but I didn't know VB actually. Sorry. I'm a C++/JS/PHP/Java programmer. :-P --minghong 14:21, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More SQL worries[edit]

Just a heads up, I've started the process of restoring SDBMS to RDBMS, as that is what the world uses, and anything else would be confusing to people who use Wikipedia. :) Feel free to pitch in and correct /revert anything that needs it. I moved the hyper-technically correct RDBMS to "truly relational database management systems" and put up move requests on the relevant pages as I cannot move them back without ruining the history. Turnstep 15:55, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good. I'll try to help when I'm free. --minghong 01:35, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the endless reverts: I got only involved when I caught your comment (it's more a Mozilla thing). I don't believe you are aware of the evolution of XUL, its role in both Mozilla and especially in FF and how the new FF toolkit was the death knell for the Seamonkey suite. Either way, you seem to have more time than I do - so suite yourself. Jbetak 05:59, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The merge of articles is disputed. I much appreciate your opnion, thanks. --Mateusc 02:17, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review/Yuan (surname)[edit]

I've put the article Yuan (surname), up for peer review (see Wikipedia:Peer review/Yuan (surname)/archive1). I hope to make it a model for expanding other Chinese surname articles. Since you've contributed to the Chinese surname article, I would really appreciate your suggestions. Yu Ninjie 21:57, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

HK Disneyland Resort/香港迪士尼樂園度假區[edit]

I reverted your edit from 香港迪士尼樂園度假區 --> 香港迪士尼度假區 for the following reason:

香港迪士尼樂園度假區 is the name used by HK Disneyland themselves.

Do a Google search for the two -- a search for "香港迪士尼樂園度假區" reveals the Disney website, a search for 香港迪士尼度假區 shows up with the article in Chinese Wikipedia.

If anything, the name of the article on Chinese Wikipedia should be changed.

香港迪士尼樂園度假區

If you disagree, please leave a message on my talk page. Thanks =)

Firefox Myths[edit]

I changed the "Firefox Myths" link in the Firefox topic from [1] to [2], mainly in an attempt to calm the revert war and provide an educational article. However, I'm not all concerned about it now. If you want to remove it entirely (i.e. from its current home, "Criticisms of Mozilla Firefox"), feel free to.

  1. If you are an admin, please remove your name from the list.
  2. If you are currently interested in being considered for adminship, please be sure your name is in bold; if you are opposed to being considered for adminship, please cross out your name (but do not delete it, as it will automatically be re-added in the next page update).

Template:User girlfriend[edit]

Hi, I notice that you are using Template:User girlfriend, which has been moved to {{User:UBX/girlfriend}}. The link currently being used on your page is a cross-namespace redirect and will probably not last. It may be advisable to change the link. Thanks. —Mira 01:15, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of changing all those users pages, why don't we move the user box templates to where they are? --minghong 03:30, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's part of the German solution to move some user templates to user namespace. — Instantnood 13:53, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation[edit]

Please be reminded to modify the articles linking to a redirect after you've turned it into a disambiguation page [3] (see special:contributions/Sai Kung). In case the change is controversial, please consider bringing the matter to the talk page first. Thanks. — Instantnood 13:53, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody is saying you are or aren't stupid. You depopulated category:Sai Kung before you filed the CfR nomination. The normal procedure is to preserve the status quo until the CfR nomination is passed. The CfR decision will then be implemented by a bot. — Instantnood 16:30, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Computer software notepad.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Computer software notepad.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Unspecified source for Image:Mashimaro.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mashimaro.gif. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. YellowDot 03:46, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Mainland-China map[edit]

Thank you for bringing up the issue. But I think I will just let it be, and will not do any modifications to the map. This is because of two reasons:

  1. I am very busy in my school work, and I got something more meaningful and rewarding to do at school.
  2. The maps of China are full of politics. I don't want to have anything to do with them any more.

Anyway, thank you for bringing up the issue.

Image tagging for Image:Netscape_Navigator_4.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Netscape_Navigator_4.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Star Ferry Pier[edit]

I noticed you spilt off the section about the "old" Star Ferry pier into another article which you named Edinburgh Place Ferry Pier. I do not entirely agree with this move on several counts:

  • There are now too many articles on Ferry piers which are too similar and thus potentially confusing. I feel they would have been better within the Star Ferry Pier article, which I have now renamed Star Ferry Pier, Central.
  • The distinction of the Edinburgh Place Ferry Pier from the Star Ferry Pier in Central is too artificial
  • Edinburgh Place Ferry Pier as a name is still ambiguous, as this would include Queen's Pier, and have been covered by the Central Ferry Piers article
  • I feel that the changes in navigation as a result of the new page had not been properly thought through and executed, leaving behind something quite messy with the pages that were linked to it. The change in the terms of references required changes to the redirects, many of whcih I have now modified.

I will leave the articles for the moment, and see how they will develop. However, I do forsee re-merging the article may result in the most coherent encyclopaedic article. FYI, Star Ferry Pier now redirects back to Star Ferry. Ohconfucius 14:52, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Netscape_classic_logo.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Netscape_classic_logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
