Jabba the Hutt[edit]

Jabba the Hutt is currently at FAC. Would you mind taking a look and pitching in your two cents? Thanks in advance. Dmoon1 04:55, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, I'll take a look. – Mipadi 11:57, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I saw your comments at FAC. Thanks. Dmoon1 16:25, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jabba the Hutt was promoted to featured status today! Thanks for your support. Dmoon1 17:22, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad I could help! — Mipadi 17:27, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On a totally unrelated issue, User:Marudubshinki insists on adding birth-death dates to the Jabba the Hutt article. I have just reverted his/her latest edit and I notice that you reverted it a few hours ago. Earlier this morning I reverted an IP address's edit that placed this information in the article; I don't know if the two are related, but this is really annoying. Anyway. Thanks for keeping an eye out. Dmoon1 21:28, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I really appreciate the work you've done, and I fully support the out-of-universe perspective you've given. Birth and death dates are interesting—but more appropriate on Wookieepedia than here. – Mipadi 02:42, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[edit]

Deckiller 05:47, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I'm very flattered that you would want to nominate me as a Wikipedia administrator. Naturally I accept your nomination! – Mipadi 12:06, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Mipadi — accept and I can put it up and we can vote away! — Deckiller 20:13, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Posted my acceptance. Thanks again! – Mipadi 02:59, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wookieepedia Part II[edit]

Hello again Mipadi. Just checking to see how you are doing. I wonder if you haven't been at Wookieepedia under a different name if you did decide to go last year, or if you felt that Wikipedia had enough cleanup of its own in the SW dept. -- Riffsyphon1024 07:15, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I never got around to registering an account. I figured I could do more working sticking around here, although I might still register an account at Wookieepedia eventually. – Mipadi 11:52, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I never knew what happened to you but if you felt Wikipedia needed you more, I don't blame you. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:08, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA[edit]

You answered your question in a way that made people think that you were only interested in AfD and vandalism, which is usually tough to win over with low wikispace edits and a low participation on AfD/WP:AIV. We may want to withdraw the nomination and wait another month or month and a half, in which you can start building up a solid community portfolio. — Deckiller 10:58, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If there is a significant opposition by tomorrow, we'll withdraw. But I think that people are starting to see the other aspects now that you clarified. — Deckiller 11:37, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Hopefully all goes well, but if not, it'll be a good learning experience. – Mipadi 11:54, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia space edits[edit]

For some reason, I thought you had more than 96. I'm afraid you won't be able to be an admin with only 96 Wikipedia space edits. We'll have to withdraw so you can work on your policy, project, and AfD editing and we can try again in a month or two. — Deckiller 19:32, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, I'm not really that concerned. I come to Wikipedia to read, write, and edit encyclopedic articles. If I come across an AfD, or put one up myself, I stick with it, but I don't want to alter my behavior so that I follow ones I have no interest in. I'm content to just continue what I have been doing. I'm not going to alter my behavior to try to become an admin. – Mipadi 19:45, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay then; usually, RfA voters look for people who lean toward wikipedia space edits. However, it might be a good thing to try and become an admin; it gives you the ability to block vandalism and do more janitorial work that may quicken the pace if you find, say, some Star Wars fanfic or non-notable articles. Then again, if you don't wish to work on that, then it's all good. — Deckiller 21:53, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll work on my edits a bit, and see if I can get more support in the near future. – Mipadi 22:02, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clone Wars[edit]

The political parallel section is complete. I'll begin working on military comparisons pretty soon. — Deckiller 21:48, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We're going to need sources for the military section, and we also should really work on the Star Wars parallels and "Popular Culture" parallels. I think, after that, all that remains is a small development session that is already described in the political parallels section. — Deckiller 17:30, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay—I'll take a look and see if I can do anything with that. It's coming along pretty nicely, though! I'm glad there wasn't a bunch of people who wanted to revert the initial rewrite. – Mipadi 17:31, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I also noticed you changed the dashes to commas — both are generally acceptable, so I like to mix it up to add variety. — Deckiller 17:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Project updates
Greetings, Star Wars editors! Deckiller here. It's the first edition of the WikiProject Star Wars newsletter, and yes, it's a semi-ripoff of the Esperenza newsletter. I think it's important to begin with some good news: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Jabba the Hutt have reached featured article status! Kudos to the editors who helped obtain these achievements!

WikiProject Star Wars is also on a mission to improve Star Wars articles using the following ideas:

  • An out of universe perspective versus an in universe perspective (see Wikipedia:Writing about fiction and the future ammendments to our manual of style)
  • Evolving lists into regular articles
  • Moving excess information and specifics to Wookieepedia (and providing links to Wookieepedia per the "see also" and/or "external links" sections)
  • Enhanced communication amongst WikiProject members
  • More to come

These should provide the basic steps needed to improve and "encyclopedia-fy" the Star Wars series of articles.

Things to do
There are plenty of Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do. An update to the page is coming very soon, and it will represent the new and exciting changes that Star Wars pages will be receiving!
Out-of-universe versus in-universe perspectives
Although details are forthcoming, I would like to take this time to explain the gist of this concept. Wikipedia has generally agreed that fictional articles should write about the topic from a "real world" perspective, focusing on real world issues and topics, with a section or two for plot synopsis and so on. Jabba the Hutt is a solid character example, and Clone Wars (Star Wars) is quickly moving toward an out of universe perspective.
Article evolution

As many of you know, lists of minor Star Wars-related themes are very common on Wikipedia; however, since these may be seen as violations of Wikipedia policy (and having seperate articles would breach even more policies), the tentative solution is to create general articles on a list's topic (for example, turning List of Star Wars devices into Technology of Star Wars, which allows us to cover everything from hyperspace to comlinks in a general encyclopedic fashion). This can be very tough for some broad topics, so the key is organization. I encourage all editors to list their ideas on the WikiProject talk page. It will be a very difficult — but tangible — effort.

For an example, let me point you to the Final Fantasy WikiProject. Some of us over at that WikiProject decided to turn various components of Final Fantasy X, such as Pyreflies, Yevon, and the backstory — into an article describing the world of Spira. Location descriptions were given a List of locations in Spira article, and the details themselves were placed on the Spira (Final Fantasy X) page. This is a decent template to follow — however, we will need to place priority on out-of-universe, "real life" topics and perspectives in realtion to the article.

Sounds confusing, eh? It won't, for examples will be popping up left and right in the near future!

Signed...

Request for Adminship[edit]

It is my regretful task to inform you that your recent request for adminship failed to achieve consensus to promote, and has been closed. Please do not be discouraged; a number of users have had their first RfA end without consensus, but have been promoted overwhelmingly in a later request. Please continue to make outstanding contributions to Wikipedia, and consider requesting adminship again in the future. You may find Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship helpful in deciding when to consider running again. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to ask. Essjay (Talk) 11:34, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message. No need for regret, though. I'll just try, try again! – Mipadi 13:23, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Max Rebo Band[edit]

Would you mind taking a look at the Max Rebo Band article. I updated it today, but it sort of makes me nervous. It sort of an article-list hybrid, if there is a such thing. Your input is appreciated. Dmoon1 07:32, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'll take a look when I get a chance. – Mipadi 12:14, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rogue Squadron[edit]

I edited the lead slightly and added an image (although I think this is Red Squadron from ANH). The basic organizational structure looks great and its similar to the Max Rebo Band article. I haven't read any of the Rogue Squadron books or comics, but I imagine this is where most of your information will come from. If you get lost (as I often do when organizing these things), try to use this basic skeletal outline:

I. Appearances in fiction

A. Film(s)
B. Literature (books and comics)
C. Video game(s)

II. Characteristics

Descriptions and anecdotes cobbled together from literature, films, secondary sources.

III. Concept and creation

The hardest section to find information on.

IV. Popular culture (if applicable)

V. List of members (if an organization)

Hope this helps. I updated the atrocious Padmé Amidala article I wrote back in March to conform to WP:WAF. If you have time, could you look over it. I think the plot section from the films might be too long, even though I edited out a lot of extraneous material. Dmoon1 17:30, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome, thanks for the tip! – Mipadi 19:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clone Wars[edit]

That article we worked on for a while has now reaped some benefits — it's a GA :) — Deckiller 16:19, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I just saw that. Although, it was mostly the hard work of other editors that got it there! – Mipadi 16:21, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aliens v. creatures[edit]

Thanks for your input in the recent "Is Jabba the Hutt an alien or a creature?" debate. The editor who insisted Jabba the Hutt was not an alien backed down and seemed to twist the argument to make it look like I was arguing Jabba was not an alien. Just in case this comes up again, I posted several secondary references that refer to non-human characters in science fiction as aliens regardless to what planet the human characters are from. Dmoon1 22:20, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I honestly didn't see the importance to the debate, but it seemed fairly clear what the term "alien" means in this context. At any rate, no problem, and you're welcome. – Mipadi 02:16, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fett Article[edit]

Hello. I just came across your comments left on the talk page of Boba Fett. You were basically talking about your edits being reverted quickly. Then you talked about a clean up for that article (I think that's where you were going with it). These were from Oct. 2005. I saw it got little attention (unfortunately typical on here) so I thought I would respond here and show I agree with them. My experience on Wikipedia is that it's hard to reach a consensus and avoid edit wars. I think we probably share some similar ideas, but who knows. Anyway, I've noticed the Fett article going down hill with a few recent edits, then reverts from a somewhat persistent editor. I recently wrote something on the discussion page about something I thought was unecessary but I am reluctant to make the changes I suggested due to these constant reverts. So anyway, I agree with your suggestion of a clean up on the Fett article if that's still your stance. Do you know anyone with similar stances that would assist in clean up or defense of edits (assuming the majority agrees) on this article? I think we just need a greater majority opinion to agree whether an edit is necessary/unecessary to hopefully prevent an edit war. Easier said than done, I know. I just thought that if a few more people agreed with what you had said about the quotes and such, that it could have been done and be done with. But like I said, certain people stand by their punctuation and such, right or wrong, and are usually more inclinded to resort to constant reverts. Thanks for your time and any thoughts you have. Padmé Amidala[edit]

Hey, Deckiller and I have revised Padmé Amidala and it has been at FAC since August 7. If you care to comment, you're advice/criticism is valued. Dmoon1 21:57, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Xcode[edit]

When you removed the scripts section from Xcode, you referenced WP:NOT. But you did not say which clause you felt it fell under. Can you be more clear? I believe there was some valuable information in there, albeit not in the form it was in, and without knowing the objection I can't avoid re-introducing whatever issue you had. -- Steven Fisher 19:00, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What you deleted was not instructions but just a statement that the feature exists. -- Steven Fisher 04:09, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jabba the Hutt on the Main Page[edit]

Jabba the Hutt is going to be on the Main Page tomorrow, September 15. Could you help me patrol this article for vandalism and other forms of mischief when the Main Page is updated? Dmoon1 12:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
