Welcome![edit]

Hello, Mirabelle heavens, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your changes. You may have problems writing in English, though, as displayed in Special:Diff/1081495087 and Special:Diff/1081950894. Did you know there are Wikipedias in over 300 languages? You may like to help at a Wikipedia in a different language instead. Anyway, welcome to the project, and if you need help, you can visit the Teahouse. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:20, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OMG!!!!!!I am so sorry it's just a typographical error, I don't think I re-read the message I sent to you,and even if I wanted my native language it's igbo language and I can't write that good but I can speak and understand the language when spoken, the next language I am to go for is Yoruba and it's still the same issue(am not sure you are familiar with those languages)like I said on my user page I am a Nigerian student.Over here we say"English is a borrowed language"and that's nice not a lie. Mirabelle heavens (talk) 16:31, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

O my goodness, like I said it's a typographical error,I admit the mistake cause it's obvious, but trust me I do speak English pretty good, well it's understandable if you don't believe like they say first impression matters a lot. Mirabelle heavens (talk) 16:38, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about occasional errors too much, and thank you for Special:Diff/1081957968. The task of copyediting articles is to improve their language quality, and doing so is not always easy. If you had added new information with reliable citations to the article, this would have been less problematic. An edit that only attempts to fix grammar and introduces spelling errors in the process, on the other hand, is less productive. English isn't my first language either, but if you compare this message here to yours above, you may notice the differences that I'm concerned about. For starters, please add spaces after punctuation. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 17:15, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(In Special:Diff/1081958697, you mean "midst", not mist.) ~ ToBeFree (talk) 17:20, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Special:Diff/1081961051 is contrary to MOS:DOB, which recommends not to use "on". ~ ToBeFree (talk) 17:23, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah,I've noticed the differences, hmmm!too bad.No one is perfect isn't it?.I understand what you have just said.I tried to correct the spelling error on my user page but it seems like it has been blocked by one poxybot or something like that, well we learn everyday don't we?I'ld catch up with time. Mirabelle heavens (talk) 18:50, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the proxybot, that's possible, yeah; proxy/VPN servers are usually blocked from editing Wikipedia. Sometimes, companies use VPNs to connect to the Internet, and being on such a company's network prevents editing Wikipedia.
No one is perfect. No one needs to be perfect, either. Wikipedia recognizes this and encourages you to be bold. However, copyediting articles isn't an optimal task if there's a tendency to introduce the type of errors you're attempting to fix.
It may help to use a desktop computer and a normal keyboard for editing. While a lot of effort was invested into creating the mobile website, mobile editing is still not comparable to the desktop experience. Especially typography usually benefits from using a proper keyboard. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:02, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks so much for your time, but is there any probability that my page will be unblocked by the proxybot. I really need to correct the mistake before other people who have viewed or maybe are still viewing my page will get a wrong impression about me. Thanks for the time once again, am exhausted and I need to retire to bed,my alarm has been buzzing for some minutes now, like I said I'd catch up with time. Good night. Mirabelle heavens (talk) 20:30, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

And I can't drive discuss with you on your talk page. Mirabelle heavens (talk) 20:39, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's vs. Its[edit]

Hi Mirabelle heavens, with all your good faith in mind, and hoping not to offend you with this request, Special:Diff/1082711640 makes me ask you not to attempt further copyediting in live articles until you have learned the basics of English grammar. Among these is the difference between "its" and "it's", adding a space after punctuation, properly capitalizing words (which is much easier in English than in most other languages, I'd say) and taking the time not to write "was appointed be", which appears to have been written too hastily.

Please stop copyediting for now. If you continue to "copyedit" by introducing errors to articles, you may be blocked from editing to prevent further disruption. You're currently not helping. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:51, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, it's fine or I shouldn't have joined Wikipedia in the first place don't you think maybe I need some time to work on myself. Although it's suprising to me because back home I am a bright student, my best subject happens to English may be I'ld take your advice it's not that bad is it? I'ld probably just be viewing articles and talking to you if you don't mind then when ever you notice an improvement you could say. For a start you could also help am sure you will, what is the difference between the two words, I understand that it's is a simple way of writing 'it is' well its maybe referring to an animal šŸ¤”šŸ˜’šŸ¤« Don't laugh so hard because you are presently my only talkmateā¤ļø. Since you didn't accept my friendship request šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ŖšŸ™„ Mirabelle heavens (talk) 17:22, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your best subject "happens to English"? Okay. Regarding "It's", you're correct: That's a short form of "it is". Which is why the way you had used it in Special:Diff/1082711640 is incorrect: "The school had opened it is doors"?
Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is not a social network. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 17:34, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Any problem? Yes it's true that my best subject is English. Fine, correction noted but I don't get how you get to know whenever I copyedit any article. Since Wikipedia is not a social network could you explain to me what Wikipedia is because I don't get it. Mirabelle heavens (talk) 17:52, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You know after thoroughly reading your text, it sounded like an insult on my personality, well I guess you have the freedom of speech and does everyone,I am not going to give up on copyediting and editing articles, and for your information you just offended me okay, that's it Mirabelle heavens (talk) 18:03, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, or also: Wikipedia is a project with the aim to create and maintain an encyclopedia. Its basic values are described in the form of five pillars.
I didn't mean to offend or attack you or your personality in any way, and I'm sorry for causing this impression. There is no full freedom of speech in the way you may expect; civility is valued and personal attacks are prohibited. "Freedom of speech" in its simplest form means that the government can't jail people for their opinion. It's a bit more complex than that, of course, but it's usually not applicable to conversations on Wikipedia in the way you may have thought.
What I was trying to say is that Wikipedia does have policies against disruptive editing even from well-intending editors. The term "disruptive editing" would, for example, describe insistent attempts to copyedit articles while increasing the number of errors in the process. So please don't do that. There are three different approaches available, each of which is more productive. Approach A would be contributing to a Wikipedia in a language you write with less errors, if available. Approach B would be contributing to the English Wikipedia in other areas than copyediting. For example, you may be highly competent in identifying vandalism at Special:RecentChanges, and you may like to learn reverting it. Approach C would be checking if you are currently able to contribute helpfully to the encyclopedia, possibly coming to the conclusion "not yet", and deciding to return when this has changed. Wikipedia won't run away; it will likely still exist in 1-10 years. So if you come to this conclusion, please do consider taking a while off Wikipedia, practising English writing and returning with improved proficiency. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:04, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
