Contributing to WikiProject[edit]

Hi - I am disappointed that Distinguished_Flying_Cross_(United_States) only lists a few famous receipients — mostly entertainers. 390th Memorial Museum provided me names, ranks, crews, of about 90 members of 390th_Bombardment_Group who also received DFC.

How can I add this well–documented info to Wikipedia correctly?

Do I put the same questions on Talk:Distinguished_Flying_Cross_(United_States) — or does this belong with 390th Talkor do I ask WikiProject_Council/Proposals about this?

File:Filename

Also: Does it matter that my [Dad] is on this list?

[[File:File:Framingham.png]]

I received this description of Dad (shown): Our data base states that he completed 29 missions with the 570th BG. He flew26 missions with crew #50, piloted by James E. Wilkinson, and one combat mission each with crew #52, #44, #42.

Thank you very much for your help, Mitch3000 09:48, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It is probably not a good idea to work too much on anything that deals with your dad too closely, but just working on a list that he is on should be fine. But you might want to ask another editor to look over your description of him. As for the list--be bold and go ahead and edit the article itself. As long as you cite a source for the encyclopedic information that you add, you should be fine. Did I answer all of your questions? If you have any others, ask me on my talk page, or replace {{helpme}}. Good luck! Cheers, Jake WartenbergTalk 12:42, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

removing content on Tobacco_Road_(song)[edit]

IMO {{David Lee Roth}} does not belong here - he is mentioned once.

Can I remove this - or anything which seems unrelated to content?

Thanks -- Mitch3000 09:10, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not especially familiar with this subject area, but as you say, it appears he's only mentioned in passing within the Tobacco Road (song) article, in the list of artists who've performed the song, and likewise that the song is only mentioned once in passing in the David Lee Roth, in the discography list. You never know what someone might object to, but it looks like a pretty reasonable edit to me, with what little I know. Our motto is, after all, be bold!Luna Santin (talk) 09:29, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to meet you, Mitch[edit]

Hi, Mitch. Hope it helps. Keep up the good work. Jason Quinn (talk) 12:47, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, your typo search was broken. I fixed it for you. It might be linked as an external link using the full URL. Unfortunately, only simple searches can be done using wikilinks and the Special Search page. That's a major annoyance but presentably technically impossible to work around. Correcting Photo Caption on Multiple Pages[edit]

I obtained this info from 390th Memorial Museum Archives stating that this photo:

has wrong Comment/Description, esp. serial number of plane.

Current description:

Douglas/Long Beach B-17G-95-DL Fortress 44-83884 "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with James Cagney at Framlingham Airfield England, 1944

Source: United States Army Air Forces via the Eighth Air Force Archives, Penn State University.

Correct description:

Aircraft #239953 Accepted by USAAF 15 Oct 43. Long Beach Mod Center 15 Oct 43. Grand Island 1 Nov 43. 8th AF 17 Nov 43. Aircraft christened Yankee Doodle Dandy by Jimmy Cagney 15 Mar 44. MIA Leipzig 29 May 44. Shot down by fighters. Nr. 1 engine on fire, left aileron and wing damaged. Crashed near Leipzig. Nesbitt, Larson, Dyer, Meyer KIA, rest POW

The aircraft 44-83884 was restored as Yankee Doodle Dandy in 1961, and is now housed at Barksdale_Air_Force_Base.

1) how can cite my info - do I upload the scan I received from 390th.org, and link to it?

2) or do I just cite organization?

3) does this topic belong here? or should I have asked this question on a different page? Talk page for image says: “Talk pages in this namespace are generally not watched by many users.“

Ticket Nest[edit]

On Greatest_Love_of_All#References there is an impertinent link to Ticket Nest.

I found more of these links with this search.

But I cannot edit first link, because I cannot find it in markup.

What am I missing? -- Mitch3000 00:50, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE[edit]

Explaining "LGv, a good edit got caught up in the mess" LGV stands for last good version. Right before you edited it, someone added in some stuff that was unsourced and was not a neuteral point of view. "a good edit got caught up in the mess" refers to you're edit being reverted. It was sort of lazy on my part. I'll go ahead and add back in your edit.. sorry about that. RF23 (talk) 02:11, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

photos + BLP[edit]

I need help editing Guitjo_(double-neck). I have seen inventor perform, it is truly unique, and deserves better article.

I want to add a photo, for which I have obtained permission, development history, and tuning charts. If adding third-party photo is a pain, I also have my own photos of guitjo, performer, and band. Additionally, want to add new articles, with bio of inventor, and link to his band.

I have been writing Web pages for 14 years, and tables/formatting is not the problem.

Be bold should not apply to me, because I have a traumatic brain injury. I was hit in the head by a truck, and lack impulse control. I am fine with minor edits, but prefer to have this work reviewed, before it is published. I would test here.

I am also concerned about subjectivity in bios of living persons, because info is taken from inventor's Web site.

Thanks! - Mitch3000 23:33, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there!
I am quite happy to review your work, or advise you in any way you want.
Regarding bios, yes, we need to be very careful in providing reliable sources that are independent of the subject - so, info from the inventors own website would not be appropriate, because it is a primary source; we could only add information about him that has been reported in newspapers, magazines, books, or such other places. I suggest that you read WP:BIO.
Regarding adding a photo - yes, it can be complex; it needs to be copyright-free, so we need explicit permission from the copyright holder. If it is your own picture, it's simple, you can just upload it on commons, and tick the right boxes. If someone else holds copyright, then we need their explicit permission; one way to get that is to email them with a 'boilerplate' email, and get them to send it to Wikipedia with the photo attached. There is a suitable boilerplate for this in user:chzz/help/myboilerplate.
If you need information on how to make good references, how to add pictures, or anything else - just ask; wiki markup is somewhat different from HTML.
There are lots of ways to get help; you could use further {{helpme}} requests, or leave a message on my own talk page - but perhaps the best of all is, talk to us live, with this or this.
Cheers, ||||

Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  03:30, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

vandalism / revert[edit]

I added table of DFC recipients on 390th Strategic Missile Wing, which I meticulously copied, from info provided by librarian at http://390th.org on May 4, 2009.

“Billymencow” with no user page, added Nathaniel “Gus” Mencow, not on list, and broke table formatting.

I could just edit page, and remove name, but would like to learn, and follow, best practice.

Is it better to revert than just edit? Have never reverted before, but directions are clear.

Thank you for your time and patience - Mitch3000 01:17, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the name was added with no source, remove it. Just don't edit war; if he adds it back, attempt discussion. If he doesn't respond, warn him, and if he still doesn't stop, report him. But yes, it's fine to revert that if there's no source. Further questions? let me know! Fleetflame 01:51, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Harvey Weinstein[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! I am glad to see you are interested in discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic, as with this post of yours on Talk:Harvey Weinstein. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:58, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
