This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Fay Gale, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.assa.edu.au/directory/listall.asp?id=96. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Draft Fay Gale biography

[edit]

FAY GALE AO (Order of Australia), BA, PhD, DUniv (University of Adelaide), Hon DLitt (University of Western Australia). Honorary Fellow IAG, Honorary Fellow Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, Honorary Fellow ATEM[1]. Recepient Griffith Taylor Medal 2001[2]

Emeritus Professor Gale is a cultural geographer. She was born Gwendoline Fay Gilding in Balaklava, South Australia, on June 13th, 1932 to Jasper and Kathleen Gilding. Her father was the local Methodist Minister.

Her main interests are in Higher Education policy and change, Aboriginal women and rock art sites, cultural geography theory and the management of national parks especially those with strong Aboriginal involvement.

Professor Gale is notable for many academic works including the first ever PHD to focus on Part Aborigines and address issues of assimilation. Her thesis A study of assimilation: Part Aborigines in South Australia was published in Adelaide in 1960 and republished in 1964 after becoming widely set as an anthroplogy text[3] in numerous universities.[4]

She is widely revered for her contributions to accademia and the role of women in academia.[5]

In 1989 she was awarded the Order of Australia for her services to Social Science, particularly in the fields of Geography and Aboriginal Studies.

Key appointments in the last ten years include:

Professor Gale was greatly influenced by her relationship with her foster-sister Edna Walker, a member of the Stolen Generation[6] and was an early speaker and activist for change in the treatment of Aboriginals.[7] When she married Milton Gale in 1957 her two bridesmaids were Aboriginal women, Gladys Long and Linda Vale.[8] Her early research activity amongst Aboriginal communities represents in many cases the only written records of some people. The research was part of a body of work relied upon by Hindmarsh Island Royal Commission in making its determination. This led to criticism by others, notably Rod Lucas, of the veracity of the material.[9]

During her time at The University of Western Australia Fay Gale was instrumental in developing significant advances in gender equity.[10]. [11]She was also involved in considerable controversy in 1992 over activities in the Anthropology Department that became known in the press as the "Rindos Affair" [12]and ultimately made what The Times called "state history" [13]by leading to a Parlimentary Enquiry. As the University's first female Vice Chancellor, who was also single, Professor Gale was the subject of considerable interest and the elements of the case involving academic rivalry and sexual exploits captured the imagination of the press with well over 100 news items being published.[14] The background controversy was concerned with preferential homosexual and lesbian engagement between staff and selected students; and more generally over the disruption to their studies caused by radical changes wrought by the then Hawke Labor Government[15]. Professor Gale received both support and criticism from the academic staff. [16]

The University of Western Australia offers a fellowship for academics wishing to study overseas in her name - Fay Gale Fellowships. [17]

In 1972 Professor Gale was a visiting lecturer in the Geography School at Oxford University having been awarded the Catherine Helen Spence Scholarship[18] to travel overseas. In 1978 she was a Visiting Professor at the University of Washington.
In 1991 Professor Gale teamed with Ian Lowe to give that year's Boyer Lectures entiled "Changing Australia (changes through technology)"

Professor Gale is a notable acheiver of firsts for female academics including;

  • Sole woman professor, The University of Adelaide, for almost a decade
  • First woman Pro-Vice-Chancellor, The University of Adelaide.
  • Vice-Chancellor, the University of Western Australia. This was the first appointment of a woman in WA and the second in Australia, but it was the first to a “sandstone’ or ‘group of 8’ university (Australian equivalent of Ivy League)
  • First woman elected President of the Institute of Australian Geographers
  • First woman elected President of the Australian Vice-Chancellors Committee
  • First woman elected President of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia
  • First woman chair of the Festival of Perth Board
  • First woman elected to the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities
  • First woman elected President of the Association of Asian Social Science Research Councils
  • First woman elected Patron of the Association of Tertiary Education Management, Australia and New Zealand

Professor Gale considered Dame Roma Mitchell one of her key mentors.

Deleted and blocked Page titled "Fay Gale"

[edit]

Hi. I am a newbie and tried to create the page "Fay Gale" and made lots of mistakes before I worked out what I was doing and the page is now blocked so I can't re-create it. It is a biography of a living person, Emeritus Professor Fay Gale, and I am her son so there is also an overlap. I have however created a draft at my mytalk page entitled draft Fay Gale biography. If you could pelase check that I think you would find she is notable and there are sufficent external references to her that overcome my overlap issue. Mjgale 13:51, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The page is now unprotected. In future, if you are working on a page and it is not of a suitable minimum standard to be in the namespace, please use a user subpage. Stifle (talk) 18:04, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:Image FGale.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Image FGale.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:59, 22 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BlueAzure (talk) 23:59, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Image FGale.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. Thank you for your note on my talk page. Regarding the copyright issues on your recent edit to Fay Gale, there were passages that were identical to text found on http://www.adelaide.edu.au/gender/, and possibly other material from U of Adelaide. As mentioned above, direct copying of such material into Wikipedia is generally not allowed, but such material is useful as a source of information which must then be rewritten and repurposed.

However, please note there were other observations about your edits which involve some other Wikipedia policies and guidelines. In particular, please read WP:NPOV (neutral point of view / opinionated wording), and WP:OR (original research, which includes content written "from personal knowledge"). Material in Wikipedia must be supported from existing published sources - see WP:V and WP:RS. Also, if you are closely associated with the subject, you should also read the WP:COI guidelines. Hope this better explains the concerns raised. Dl2000 (talk) 05:20, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
