What kind of edit do you want on Hurricane Katrina? I can help, since I can edit the page. Thanks, 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 13:04, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks so much. The intro/overview of this Wiki page focuses almost exclusively on the impact to New Orleans — it doesn’t really include the actual trajectory of the storm and what areas were hit *just as hard — if not harder* by this hurricane.
The actual timeline of events — which is widely accepted by most Louisiana/Mississippi residents who experienced Katrina — is that the catastrophic damage caused by the “natural disaster“ of the hurricane was further East, on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The “man-made” disaster that occurred in New Orleans occurred a couple of days after the storm. The city was considered to have “dodged” most of the impact that they expected from hurricane Katrina. NOLA residents, FEMA, the weather channel, and all initial reports from *every* national news source’s post-storm coverage agrees and describes the city as spared by the storm, while the Gulfport/Biloxi area of Mississippi was where complete devastation occurred - the whole area being completely flattened by the storm. While NOLA did have some flooding and major winds, overall it was considered minimal compared to what they prepared for. The devastation from Katrina in New Orleans not only came later, it was actually a *man made disaster* — caused by poor infrastructure of the levees.
I am happy to provide any resources needed that back up this information. I think it’s important to note that Katrina’s life-changing impact was much more widespread across the coastal region —New Orleans was not exclusive to damage, nor was it the actual city that the hurricane even directly hit. An entire region outside of New Orleans was wiped off the map. Also think it should be noted the difference of natural vs man-made disasters that came from Katrina, a more accurate historical timeline, and more information/photos of areas other than the one city that people almost exclusively identify hurricane Katrina with. Oh, for sure haha. I was just trying to make a decent case for editing the page. I’ll sum it up and submit an edit request. Thanks! Should I also cite any sources for the references tab? Or is that even necessary? Mml141 (talk) 11:15, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, references are necessary. Good luck! 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 11:52, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
