Conflict of interest?

[edit]

Deb (talk) 11:51, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The King's Son may have a legitimate place in the Richard of Eastwick article, but not in the Richard III articles. Given your attempts to 'place' the book in several articles, you are suspected of having a conflict of interest, either as author or in some other way connected to the book. A COI should be acknowledged on your User page (or if none exists, denied on your Talk page). David notMD (talk) 12:32, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Acknowledging a COI

[edit]

There is (see WP:COI), but it is a bit hard to apply. Instead, just make a simple statement describing your connection to The King's Son. More to the point, if you do have a COI, you are not supposed to edit articles directly. Instead, you are instructed to go to the Talk pages of those articles and ask that a change be implemented. Such requests should be specific, as in add ____ or replace ____ with ____, accompanied by references. To ask a reviewer to look at, add the words "edit request" inside double curly brackets {{ }}. Doing that 'flags' your edit request to attract attention to a bevy of volunteer editors who help with this task. May take weeks before acted on. Thank you for the prompt and informative response David. I will declare my link to the book on my user page. Do I now need to delete the articles I have posted or can I leave them and ask that they be reviewed as an edit request? Mollwell (talk) 13:25, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please ignore my previous message as I have now declared a COI and will submit an edit request. Thanks for your help in understanding the process. Mollwell (talk) 13:45, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I see that you have tried to declare a COI, but what you've actually done is to advertise your book on your user page. You need to use [[Template:UserboxCOI]]. Deb (talk) 17:07, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Deb. Apologies but that was not my intention. I was just following the advice above. I'm a complete novice so this is still a learning process for me. How do I use the template? Do I just cut and paste the bracketed phrase above into my user page or do I have to do something else? Mollwell (talk) 21:31, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As I did not completely inform you, I replaced what you wrote with the proper COI declaration. David notMD (talk) 22:11, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you David. That is very much appreciated. Mollwell (talk) 22:35, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
