DYK for Heike Heubach

On 4 May 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Heike Heubach, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Heike Heubach became the first deaf member of the German Bundestag? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Heike Heubach. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Heike Heubach), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Deletion discussion about Fred Teague

Hello Moondragon21, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Fred Teague, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fred Teague.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Tails Wx}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Translations

Hi Moondragon21. My attention was drawn to Heike Heubach by a post at Wikipediocracy, in their thread about DYK and other Main Page features. When I looked, I found the article very problematic, including a completely irrelevant reference: a chapter from a book about early Scottish films used to reference the statement that the only previous deaf representatives in Germany were at the local level. (You presumably copied from the wrong tab, but I was unable to figure out what source you had intended to cite.) The information about her education was garbled, and was unsourced (which the DYK review should have picked up.) I wound up extensively rewriting the article (diff). In doing so, I found that you had cited multiple versions of the same Associated Press source, apparently not noticing they were the same, and that although you used ref names, you repeated the entire reference each time. I thought I remembered your user name, and looked in your talk page archives to see whether I'd previously spoken to you about working with German sources, since your work on this article suggests that you cannot really read German. I found that there was an extended discussion in September and October 2022 that led to your losing autopatrolled, and where I had indeed raised that issue with you, without receiving a response (September 2022 archive; AN/I; October archive).

I'm glad you returned to Wikipedia and to article writing. But I'm very disturbed to find you still using sources that you don't appear to understand, and that includes the German article itself, which also has the education information unsourced (the source for it is the official Bundestag biography, in the external links section, which you also had there). Particularly in a BLP, you should not be using sources you don't understand. I'm glad we now have an article about this person, who is definitely notable, but BLPs especially need to be correct. Better to work with someone who can read the language of the sources, or to leave the topic to someone else, than to have a misleading or incorrect article.

Also, the September 2022 archive includes your attention being drawn to repeated references and you saying you understood about combining them. And it includes multiple people telling you about the requirements for attributing translations from other versions of Wikipedia (one of Fram's main points) and you saying each time that you would do this in future; and this included information about the requirement on en.wiki to place a "translated page" template on the article talk page. Yet although your first edit summary for the Heubach article stated that it was a translation and linked to the German article (correct, and thank you for doing that), I found you had not also put the template on the talk page; I just did that for you. Notice

The article Jayar Davidov has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This appears to be an instance of WP:BLP1E. There appears to little to no meaningful coverage of this individual as a subject before or after a single event, with all of the coverage being essentially obituary-style material following that. Based on this, the page leans more towards WP:NOTMEMORIAL than anything else, and does not present a compelling standalone topic outside of the event which it revolves around.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thank you!

Just a quick word of thanks to you for creating the article about Stephen Grimason, the BBC Northern Ireland journalist who broke the news of the Northern Ireland agreement. I requested this after his death through the requested articles system, and I was delighted to find that you created the article. As English isn't my first language, I don't feel capable of starting anything more than a stub, so I genuinely appreciate the work you've created! Thank you again, Dane|Geld 21:38, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

The article Glossary of terms from the 2024 United Kingdom general election has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence that any of these "entered popular use" instead of being used just once or twice, and the "Workington Man" is from the previous election apparently... We are not a dictionary, and certainly not one of neologisms of uncertain longevity

Hi Moondragon21, one and a half years ago you have written the article on Mining industry of Suriname. In fact the content is on Goldmining industry of Suriname. Do you have plans to complement the article with sectors as bauxite and oil, like the French article (fr) does? If not I think it is better to change the title to Goldmining industry of Suriname and connect it on Wikidata with the Dutch article (nl). Which way do you want to go with the article? Speedy deletion nomination of Results of the 1945 United Kingdom general election

Hello Moondragon21,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Joseywales1961, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Results of the 1945 United Kingdom general election, for deletion, because there's already a page about that topic at Constituency election results in the 1945 United Kingdom general election. Please don't be discouraged; we appreciate your effort in creating new articles. To avoid this in the future, consider using the search function to find pages that already cover what you want to write about.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Joseywales1961}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Rationale for splitting 2024 United Kingdom general election in England into separate articles

I'm struggling to see your rationale for splitting the above article into separate articles for each region. Not only is there no precedent of doing this for previous elections, but it makes it much harder to navigate and glean the details of the election from the article. On top of this, there was no prior discussion nor consensus sought for this.
