Re-initiating INCOTM[edit]

It's been almost an year since "Indian collaboration of the month" was active. Firstly we need to restart this as soon as possible for development of India-related articles to greater heights. The members page was blanked, where many of them are inactive. This mass message is to all the members of WikiProject India, about this and interested editors interested will sign up. After this message gets delivered, we'll wait for 7 days before we start a discussion under a thread on the collaboration's talk page, among the members. The discussion will include what to clean-up of sub-pages, a new set of guidelines for smooth and uninterrupted functioning of the collaboration etc. Please keep all the discussions under this thread only, so that it will easier for future reference. DYK for Mia Borders[edit]

On 2 May 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mia Borders, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Mia Borders has an arm tattoo of a saying by Che Guevara which means "Better to die standing than to live on your knees"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mia Borders. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Mia Borders), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Mia Borders[edit]

You do not need to add that a musician tours. That's like saying "John Smith is a baseball player. Every week he goes on a pitch and hits a ball". GiantSnowman 17:39, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, GiantSnowman. Or that a snowman is here today and gone tomorrow? I once had a tutor who said to me "I have heard far too many essays which begin "Goethe was born..." Moonraker (talk) 23:53, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Translation[edit]

Here's something eyquisite to translate: "Heilige Seelen-Lust, oder Geistliche Hirten-Lieder der in ihren Jesum verliebten Psyche gesungen von Johann Angelo Silesio, Und von Herren Georgio Josepho mit außbundig schönen Melodeyen geziert / Allen liebhabenden Seelen zur Ergetzligkeit und Vermehrung ihrer heiligen Liebe / zu Lob und Ehren Gottes an Tag gegeben" Title page 1657, from Ich will dich lieben --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:24, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gerda, I'll look at this tomorrow. Moonraker (talk) 23:27, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda, this is certainly hard to put into convincing English without too much repetition. That term "an Tag geben" may have a special meaning that I don't know. For the rest, perhaps "Saintly Soul-Pleasure, or Spiritual Pastoral Songs, of the Mind that loveth Jesus, sung by Angelus Silesius, and ornamented by Master George Joseph with wonderfully lovely Melodies. To all charitable Souls for the Satisfaction and Increase of their holy Love / to the Praise and Honour of God... " etc. Moonraker (talk) 00:52, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
thank you, wonderfully lovely! - I guess "an Tag geben" may simply mean "publish"?? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:37, 23 November 2017 (UTC) I try "presented". Any term using "day"? For the article: Soul, not Mind, because that was even in the DYK ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:51, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Have fun! (I tried.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:59, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
"An Harmonic Treasury of Songs, or General Evangelical Choral Book, containing the Melodies of all Church Songs introduced into Germany - both German and French, old and new, as well as the Hundred and Fifty Psalms of David..." We really only have one word meaning Songs. It's late, I'll come back to this tomorrow. Moonraker (talk) 01:09, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
More thanks! You have hymn and chorale, and I have a hard time to tell what to use when. It's definitely Chorale here, not Choral. Do you think "chorale" here means "songs" or "melodies", because that is one of the open questions, see talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:43, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
From today's DYK: Geistliche Lieder / den Gottseligen Christen zugericht. - English has no word for Geistlich, as in Geistliche Musik, which is neither Sacred music nor Church music, but spiritual music would probably be misunderstood, and inspired music would be right and wrong at the same time. Where's the Spirit? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:08, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda, I do usually use spiritual for geistlich, and indeed Geist is more or less spirit, as in Heiliggeist. I don't see a problem with spiritual in this 17th century context, and in any event "Spiritual Songs" wouldn't be confused with Spirituals, which are called simply that. Moonraker (talk) 16:03, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

May I still hope for Ilona Durigo? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:05, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, Gerda, I had forgotten. I'll look at it again tomorrow. Moonraker (talk) 23:10, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Ipigott, but I'm not into any kind of positive discrimination! I think those new pages are Amaryllis Garnett, Mary Catherine Bolton, Birgit Cunningham, Ina Skriver, and Sarah Brackett, all worth a visit. Moonraker (talk) 11:46, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, certainly. They are all good introductions to successful actresses. I hope to see many more along the same lines. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 12:03, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
