Changing Backgrounds[edit]

{{helpme}} How do I change the background of my user talk page? Do I have to upload a file or can I use one from the Wikimedia Commons?

You can use syntax such as:

<div style="position: relative; overflow: hidden; margin: 0;">[[File:Example.jpg]]</div>

or some variation thereof, to add an image to the background of your userpage, but I do not recommend it for your talk page. It doesn't matter if you choose to upload or use an existing file. Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is not MySpace, and that there exist alternative outlets. Intelligentsium 00:25, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am told that all talk pages are light blue (though i cannot see it myself).

It depends on what skin you are using; if under the monobook skin (default), it is light blue on talk pages and such.

Adding citation[edit]

This is described in WP:CITE. If you write:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,<ref>reliable source</ref> consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.<ref name="second reference">another reliable source</ref> Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.<ref name="second reference" />

the parser gives:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,[1] consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.[2] Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.[2]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment.
