Your signature, and Queer people of color

Hey Morgan, a couple things. I noticed you went back to the AfD nom for Queer people of color and changed some of the capitalization. If you go to your preferences, you can change the capitalization there so it always comes out as you want it (or you can get really crazy and change the color, font, put in links, etc.). Thought you'd like to know.

I also wanted to say something about your comment that deletion of Queer people of color would amount to bigotry. As the editor who nominated this article for deletion, I won't take your comment personally, but do hope you understand how i could easily take those comments to mean that I'm a bigot. Oftentimes discussions on Wikipedia can get heated and so it's important to keep a cool head; I hope that in the future you choose to use less inflammatory language.

Anyway, while we don't see eye to eye on the deletion of this article, I do hope that, regardless of the outcome of this AfD, we can collaborate in the future. Please let me know if I can help you with anything, be it technical, content-oriented, or admin-duty-related. Truly, JDoorjam Talk 02:04, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Its important for the sustenance of level-headed discussion not to dissect words as character assassination but to underscore what the proposed act of deletion really stands for in the given context. There are users that add peoples' names hardly categorized as a notable or historical figure (for example, a singer of a garage band whose career fell short after a couple of years), slang words/phrases (*there is abundant intellectualizing over the word "yo"- which also gets tossed into the controversy as arbitrarily taking up space), that are left unbothered. If an organization was called Queer People of Color how would that affect its nomination for being characterized as an "appropriate" encyclopedic definition? The reiterated "its just a term" response shows indication that those who are people of color exist and acknowledge it as self-identification and a strategic means to anti-colonialism and community building, queer people of color do not or have not done anything to make a mark for themselves to be recognized as an oppressed group of people. This arrival itself is censorship and oppression of voice. Anarkafrica 16:24, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Cleaning up my talk page, I came across this discussion and remembered that I started editing Wikipedia after a friend expressed anger and frustration over the marginalization of the QPOC article. A decade later, where are we at with this? Morganfitzp (talk) 15:16, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Card game user templates

Well, they are not deleted yet, but that is the plan. However, if you have game specific images, I am very interested. I can add them to the master template. Also, I can give you a little gift to help with making your user page a bit more interesting where the card game user templates are concerned. Interested?
—Lady Aleena talk/contribs 07:11, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

PS. I don't consider my user page fancy, I have seen a lot of user pages here, and mine is a bit plain by comparison. If you want to have the user infobox I have on the right hand side of my user page, let me know. I can help you get it. If there is anything else on my user page that you like, tell me and I will help you get it done on yours. I don't mind letting people copy me. :) - LA @ 07:16, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Minor edits

I noticed you created the page 41 shots and marked the edit as minor. You may want to go back and re-read when to mark an edit as minor, since page creation is definitely not listed. Natalie 15:05, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! That was an oversight on my part. I'll be more careful next time. - Morganfitzp 20:05, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Copyright licensing of Image:Cantastoria korea.jpg

I noticed you did not indicate the copyright status of Image:Cantastoria korea.jpg. If you know it, could you please place a copyright tag on it? Disputed fair use rationale for Image:EdBrown JimCopp.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:EdBrown JimCopp.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:54, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

interested in the Portuguese-speaking world

Hi. I'm Beth, known on Wikipedia as Learnportuguese. I am very interested in the Portuguese language and the Portuguese-speaking world. The whole concept of saudade is fascinating. If you want, chek out my user page and talk page and put a watch on both. I have very interesting discussions there. You are very welcome to contribute. :-) learnportuguese (talk) 16:26, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Posting major contributions and marking them as minor edits is not a good practice. I thought I'd let you know. It makes it harder to find your messages. :-) learnportuguese (talk) 01:21, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I saw your work at Agro-. You're right to see agri- as an alternative to agro-, but it seems to me that agro- is more common as a prefix than agri-. I had the idea of setting up a page on agri-, but many of the words would simply overlap. I guess the taxonomic names and proper nouns would not, but the agricultural ones would. I've had a little bit of an edit to accommodate your change. Are you happy with that? - Richard Cavell (talk) 05:06, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Stick Men (band)

A tag has been placed on Stick Men (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Nikkimaria (talk) 22:05, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on USAISAMONSTER requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Morganfitzp! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 935 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Byron Coley - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 20:10, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

The article Flour (band) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
Flour (band)news, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Darkwind (talk) 02:33, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:51, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Roy Paci. November 2011

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Forrest yoga a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. —KuyaBriBriTalk 22:22, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Viparita Karani

Hi Morgan. I want to redirect Viparita Karani to a page where the asana is unassisted, as apparatuses are not notable since all asanas can be assisted with apparatuses. Which asana is the one where the soles of the foot are brought together with the legs making a diamond and right angles with the rest of the body?Curb Chain (talk) 08:32, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Viparita Karani can be done with out the use of props. The pose is supine with legs vertical. The most common variation without use of a wall resembles a modified shoulder stand with flexion in the thoracic (instead of cervical) spine, upper arms on the floor, elbows bent to send forearms vertical, hands supporting hips. A more advanced variation without use of a wall has the entire spine on the floor and 90° flexion at the hips with arms extended by the sides. Iyengar and many of his disciples disagree with the notion that poses have to be unassisted to be of note, hence Viparita Karani has become known as "Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose" and taught as restorative. Morganfitzp (talk) 07:13, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
So are the legs raised, but hethe back on the floor-and-supine? Iyengar is a kind of excersise yoga but we need to represent yoga generally and inclusively, meaning all the kinds of yoga, not just Iyengar. Is there a better name than "Legs-Up-The Wall Pose"? Having the back supine and legs 90degrees is a notable pose, but what is that name? Variations such as putting the soles together while maintaining the 90degress to the rest of the body is a variation, or the former a variation of this one.Curb Chain (talk) 23:05, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
The etymology section of the article reads, "The name comes from the Sanskrit words viparita meaning 'inverted' or 'reversed', and karani meaning 'doing' or 'making.'" Many sources support this. I've also seen it called "Upside-Down Seal." Morganfitzp (talk) 14:13, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Take care that you sign your posts! Morganfitzp (talk) 21:34, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
Oops. Why do you insist on using the ambiguous term "pose"? And if an asana has multiple names, it is pointless to say "it is alternately called" or "it is alternatively called".Curb Chain (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Asana is a Sanskrit word. Many words in Sanskrit splay out into a multitude of meanings when translated into English. The same is true of English words (e.g. the verb "to get"). Though "asana" literally means "seat", in English it appears as "pose" or "posture," and in 21st century English, "pose" is what most yoga practitioners use when translating "asana". Type "Trikonasana" into English language Google and you'll see that 7 out of the top 10 listings call it "Triangle Pose" in the article title; "Triangle Asana" is not a complete translation; "Triangle Posture" or "Triangle Position" come off as so formal to the point of being archaic; "Triangle Seat" makes no sense for a standing pose like Trikonasana as "seat" implies that one is sitting, whereas "pose" can be any form. One could say, "Configure the body into a triangle, channeling the prana and focusing the mind so that the spirit takes the figurative seat of the triangle." While this is very poetic, few English-speaking yoga teachers would say that. More often you'll hear, "Come into Triangle Pose" or simply, "Step into Triangle." Morganfitzp (talk) 03:55, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
I understand your point of view, but "pose", "position", and "posture" are equally ambiguous, and equally multisemantic. Per coining, "asana" has been established as refering to "yoga poses".Curb Chain (talk) 21:49, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Well then, you may translate "asana" as "yoga pose" for the many laypeople who look at Wikipedia every day. Morganfitzp (talk) 04:53, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
PS: I noticed your edit of Bakasana that erroneously removed the word "Kakasana" from the photo caption and ignored a rather obvious violation of Wikipedia's how-to policy. Can you find that how-to? Morganfitzp (talk) 04:53, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
  1. I have translated "posture" and "pose" to "asana'"
  2. Removal of " / Kakasana" was not an error, nor did it violate WP:NOTHOWTO because:
  1. It is technically Crane that is being performed in the picture, as neither leg was suspended; both legs are supported by the arms.
  2. I changed the word, the term, of the subject matter; I did not describe how to do it. Inserting trivia such as "1st, 2nd, 3rd position" to help readers to do them, when such data is neither academic or statistically relevant is off topic, and as such, you did violate WP:NOTHOWTO. I see you said I make a good point, so why do you insist to argue?Curb Chain (talk) 00:39, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi Trofobi. What you've come across has a long story behind it. It's a personal story, relating to an individual who has struggled with relationships, homelessness, addiction, parenthood, anger, shame, regret, and wanting to keep things off the internet. As an editor of Wikipedia, I followed protocol by contributing to an article that I knew a lot about and providing references. As a human being in the offline world, I was subjected to a lot of rage by someone who did not want their past put on display for the online world to see. Other editors and I followed protocol and tried to have said article removed. It did not work, and the angry phone calls, text messages and letters continued to berate me and others.
I believe in Wikipedia and abide by its standards. Some standards, however, are higher: the standard of human dignity and one's right to privacy. As an eager young Wikipedian, I denied someone that right by putting information about them on the web and have since done everything in my power to undo this. But my power is limited and the best that I could do was show the upset party that by demanding that attention not be paid to something, more attention is drawn to it (a.k.a. "The Streisand Effect.")
Your question is a good one: What could we do now? Getting the article deleted altogether on the grounds of non-notability would be an honorable solution. Morganfitzp (talk) 21:35, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Morgan, I think there is a clear mix up between the asanas and the mantras. Can you clear that up? What is the association between chakras and asanas if the mantras are supposed to be pronounced at Pranamasana?Curb Chain (talk) 03:26, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
