Hello, Mpsheriff, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Valencia Koomson, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Russ,
I am not sure what the issue is here. I have no association with Valencia Joyner. If you paid close attention the university I am associated with is North Carolina Central University not Tufts. I have never met, spoke with, or received payment from Valencia Koomson. Additionally, I used reliable third party sources for my citations including direct interviews with Valencia. Please refrain from making changes to my posts in the future as I have no affiliation with Dr. Koomson. Thank you. Mpsheriff (talk) 14:49, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mpsheriff, I reverted your last batch of edits because they are not in keeping with our standard practice for academic biographies. Teaching information is highly subject to change, and is WP:MILL -- all professors teach classes, and it is usually not very closely related to their reasons for notability. The awards that should go into an article are career pinnacle ones, not the early career ones that you added. Interviews are not great as sources: see WP:INTERVIEW. I'd be happy to answer some of your questions about editing academic bios. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 17:19, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't make sense. There were awards listed that were received earlier than one I added. What criteria is there to determine if an award is important enough or not? Mpsheriff (talk) 17:56, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mpsheriff, you're right that the awards you added weren't worse than what was there. I was focused on the changes. I've trimmed down the awards section to the MLK visiting prof; I am doubtful as to whether that last one is selective enough to really belong in the article, but it's not obvious. The addition you made to her research looks to be primary-sourced; it is difficult to find non-primary sources for the research of mid-career scholars. Do you need to find an article to improve for your class? Have you considered looking through some stub categories, like Category:American law biography stubs? Russ Woodroofe (talk) 18:41, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Russ,
The quote from Valencia Koomson is relevant, without influence from those sources she may have never traveled down the research path she did. The only thing I changed from the first post and the second was the word transformative. Does that really change the tone of the statement? I don't think so. Also, there is nothing wrong with using an interview as a source in Wikipedia. According to the article you sent me about using interviews in Wikipedia. Primary sources are allowed if they are uncontroversial and support claims about themselves. Which this quote absolutely is. Mpsheriff (talk) 15:24, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mpsheriff, I'll copy this over to the article talk page, and answer there. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 15:30, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Let me add offline some friendly advice, repeating what I said before a little more directly. It looks like you might be trying to get a class project out of the Koomson article. That article is actually in relatively good shape for a biography of a mostly low-profile early-mid career academic. While improvements are surely welcome, getting enough mileage out of just that article for a class project (while keeping to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines) looks to me to be relatively difficult. I'm happy to keep talking to you about the article, but there are many other articles that are in worse shape. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 19:37, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
