Adminship

[edit]

You request adminship at WP:RFA, and then are discussed. However, editors like to see a strong contribution record before someone becomes an admin, so that it is known that they can be trusted. It is highly unlikely that you would pass RfA now, so I suggest you hang around and edit awhile. Learn the policies, learn where things are. Administrators don't have much more power then the regular user anyway. Prodego talk 23:50, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Being an admin is no big deal

[edit]

Being an admin is no big deal. I'm perfectly happy with being a regular editor. I can do pretty much anything an admin can do. It's perfectly acceptable to behave as an admin, and do all the things an admin does. I find that pretty much takes up all of my time anyway. (I check new edits for vandalism, right there with all the rest of the admins!) Think about it, they are admins, yet they choose to do the same things I'm doing, though I'm not an admin. Besides, becoming an admin takes a long discussion, and debate, and nitpicking that you prolly don't want to deal with anyway. Trust me, being an admin is no big deal. Virginia tornadoes

[edit]

First of all, if you need to get it back, it's there in the history. Second of all, please read our attribution guidelines and the rule against original research. Unfortunately, we can't take a personal report about the storm, we require verifiability and attribution. If these were written from your own experiences then they cannot be allowed, I'm sorry. If you got the information from other sources, then we can have it, with proper attribution. --Golbez 17:45, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good afternoon, Mr. Taka!

Thanks for the response about the freezing jar of water. However, that wasn't my question; someone else tossed it in there and didn't sign it.

help!!!

[edit]

{{helpme}}

what is all of this?:

  • WikiCommons?
  • Meta-Wiki?
  • Wikisource?

And tell me in "basicly" format!--Takaomi I. Shimoi 16:19, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia run by the Wikimedia Foundation. However, the foundation runs other projects that aren't encyclopedias. Wikisource is a wiki (editable website) like Wikipedia that is an attempt to build a library of free-content text (for instance, the text of historical documents), rather than an encyclopedia; checking some random pages in Wikisource, I came across a sonnet by Shakespeare, for instance. Wikimedia Meta-Wiki ('Meta' for short) is another wiki, which is used to coordinate things that apply across the wikis. For instance, Wikipedia is not a dictionary, but that only applies specifically to Wikipedia; so it's here on Wikipedia but not on Meta. However, m:Neutral point of view applies across many of the Wikimedia Foundation wikis, so it has a page on Meta (which I linked using the m: prefix) as well as a page on Wikipedia. Meta is also used for various technical purposes that apply across the wikis, such as blocking spam on all Wikimedia wikis at once and creating administrators on Wikimedia wikis too small to have a bureaucrat. Wikimedia Commons hosts free use images, sounds and video that are usable across the Wikimedia wikis; if a picture is uploaded to Commons, it can be used both here and on the French Wikipedia, for instance, but if it were uploaded here at the English Wikipedia the French Wikipedia couldn't use it. You might also want to read Wikipedia:Sister projects for information on how to link to projects like Commons or Wikisource from within Wikipedia articles. Hope that helps; feel free to put {{helpme}} back up if you have any questions on any part of this. --ais523 16:45, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Bots

[edit]

Hello Mr. Taka. I saw that you would like to have a bot. However, the bot requests site is meant to be used for asking people to develop a bot that does a specified task. You are not supposed to ask someone to give you a bot. ;-) That's why I deleted your request … Well, to operate a bot you normally need to program it first. Do you have any programming experience? What kind of? — Ocolon 17:00, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have as much prog. experince as a 21yrold from africa has!:) So no i really dont i think!--Takaomi I. Shimoi 17:03, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, in that case you were right: It's damn hard without programming experience. A bot in internet is nothing but a (usually not so simple) computer program. It would probably take months to program one if you don't have any experience yet. The bots here at Wikipedia are made for very special tasks, they usually don't have a graphical user interface you can use to control them, so you can't simply run a bot for someone else either. As bot operator you should know what your bot does and how it does it anyway. I'm sorry, but I think operating a bot is nothing for you in the coming weeks.
However, if there's a task that you would like to see to be done by a bot, you can always request it at Wikipedia:Bot requests. The chances are high that someone will tackle the problem if your idea is good.
If you're interested in programming: Learn it. You won't program internet bots at the beginning but you can do other stuff pretty fast. — Ocolon 17:22, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talk pages

[edit]

FYI, talk pages are for talking about the article, not the subject of the article. Friday (talk) 17:59, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was just about to post here about that. Please keep discussion on talk pages about the article, not questions or personal accounts of the actual thing the article is describing. That's what your user page is for! Cheers. -RunningOnBrains 22:30, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That is the problem! I have no clue which change vandalized my edit! What they did just pissed me off! Not what they typed, well that too, but how STUPID it was that it made no sense! By the way, yes i have seen .hack//Sign but....i forgot everything in it!
Hopefully, I understood your reply accurately. If not, please let me know!
The history tab gives a complete list of who did what on a page. See Help:Page history for details. I find the tab to be a useful tool in tracking down vandals.
The reason I mentioned .hack//Sign is that I have found many parallels to my life:
  • Assume that The World in .hack is Wikipedia.
  • I compare myself to Subaru because
    • Much of my time is spent in The World/Wikipedia.
    • I have no official standing in The World/Wikipedia except through my relationships with other people.
  • Groups like the Counter-Vandalism Unit, Recent Changes Patrol, and Mediation Cabal in Wikipedia are like the Crimson Knights in The World:
    • They have no official standing in The World/Wikipedia.
    • Their purpose is to improve civility and cooperation between players/editors in The World/Wikipedia.

Are there other possible explanations? For example, click this link. Does it accurately describe the edit you made? --Kevinkor2 16:51, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked at it again and again. Nothing even happened to Mr.Taka's post. He replied to someone (the post in question), but he started a new header section for some reason. Then Bert Hickman replied to the same message that Mr.Taka replied to, but above Mr.Taka's post, due to the section header. Then a few posts later, Mr.Taka removed his post, with an edit summary of "Vandal!!!!" and replied under Bert Hickman with a new section header. My advice? Don't use new section headers to reply within an existing topic, everyone gets confused. Leebo T/C 17:00, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes when editing a page, I have trouble with the browser's "Back" button. Consider the following scenario:
  1. Add a new section to a talk page by clicking "+" at the top of the page.
  2. Type a few words in the moment.
  3. Click the "Show preview" button.
  4. Do lots and lots of typing.
  5. Click the "Show preview" button again.
  6. See that everything is satisfactory, so click the browser's "Back" button.
Sometimes the browser discards all changes made between the first and second preview! --Kevinkor2 17:23, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No personal attacks

[edit]

With regards to your comments on User_talk:Kevinkor2: Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks will lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. I honestly can't tell why you are upset, because I can't see where your edit was changed. Can you explain what was done to it? Leebo T/C 16:48, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Slow down

[edit]

If you don't understand how to review editing history and find diffs, please don't go around accusing other editors of vandalism. We don't have to guess about who made which edits- it's all there in the history. Friday (talk) 16:48, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry for any problems i caused during that event of vanalism! If i did cause any civil unrest i am deeply sorry and it is unlikely ill ever have that happen ever again!--Takaomi I. Shimoi 17:35, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you read my description of what happened, you'll see that it wasn't vandalism at all. Your edits were never changed. Leebo T/C 17:54, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bots (2)

[edit]

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Wikipedia:Bot_requests, you will be blocked from editing.

I removed your request at Wikipedia:Bot_requests again. We already talked about this: here! You might not have realized, but the messages with the information-signs above are low-level-warnings. You've collected two of them. This is your third one. Slow down, Mr. Taka. Constructive edits are always appreciated. — Ocolon 18:37, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I reply here to your question at my talk page.

  • Blocked? — No. You haven't been blocked as far as I know. I can't and I don't want to block you.
  • I dont understand what you expect from me! — I expect you to stop asking people at Wikipedia:Bot_requests to give you a bot. The page says right at the top:

This is a page for requesting work to be done by a bot. This is an appropriate place to simply put ideas for bots.

I'm sorry if you don't understand this. How can I explain it better? Just don't ask people to give you a bot. You won't get one, okay? You don't know what a bot is, you don't know how it works, you don't know how to maintain it, you don't know what to do with it. And please, if you wish to discuss this particular issue further, don't do it at my talk page. Do it here. Thank you. — Ocolon 16:54, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't want to be blocked, please read and understand this

[edit]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a chat room. Also please just drop the pedophilia issue- this is a sensitive issue here. If you find that you're getting complained at for something you're doing, stop doing it, whether or not you understand what the problem is. If you don't feel you can contribute useful content in line with our policies and guidelines, it may be best for you to just move on. You've gathered a bit of attention with your bizarrely unhelpful and nonsensical edits - this is the type of attention that could easily get you blocked from editing again. Please tread carefully if you wish to contribute here. Friday (talk) 19:36, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrighted material

[edit]

The recent material you added sure looks like it came from [1] which says it's copyrighted. Please don't do this- we can't use copyrighter material this way. Friday (talk) 16:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Given your edit summary in which you say you wrote this yourself, I can only conclude that this is deliberate plagiarism on your part. I have blocked you from editing for 31 hours in hopes of impressing on you the importance of not violating copyright. Friday (talk) 16:50, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
i wont lie to you this is not copyrighted, what ever the hell that is, But as for my work that is my work my persocom wont get to that format so i didn copy it! I saw the specal on ch:31 yesterday and recorded it! I did not take it!!!--Takaomi I. Shimoi 16:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're claiming these are your own words, based on watching a TV show? This is not remotely credible. Did you even read what you put in there? You're citing sources other than the TV show all over the place. Your grammar has magically improved. Your words are identical to what can be seen at this link, which is the html version of this pdf I linked to above. I don't know what you're playing at, but I suggest you stop. Friday (talk) 17:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
i used the words they said from there mouth! I used the thesaurus of the highess level slected words look in the dict. to see if they are right words to use in that statement and BAM you got wikiable text terms!--Takaomi I. Shimoi 17:11, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have extended your block to indefinite, based on the above. Also please note that simply making another account and continuing on your way isn't going to work- it's all way too obvious. Friday (talk) 17:12, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WTF!!! What in the hell do you want me to do?! send you a damn copy of this damn thing ive watched several damn times over and over and over a gain! Damn man do you even know how hard it is?! Timeline in Virginia Tornado Outbreak

[edit]

Hi Mr.Taka,

Where did you get the information for the timeline in Virginia Tornado Outbreak?

If you describe the source, I can help you get it into a format acceptable to Wikipedia.

--Kevinkor2 17:00, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

you see thats the issue! I got it for a request from the libary! Some police, 911, witness, storm spoters, and news reports! I slected as little but useful text got the thesaurus and replaced words then in my own typeing put up that time line after spell checking it! and i dont want to fax it!--Takaomi I. Shimoi 17:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Very good! I suggest we start by noting after each time, whether the sources were police, 911, witness, storm spotter, and news.
For this first step, just put the applicable word(s) after the section. "police", "911", "witness", "spotter", "news". --Kevinkor2 17:19, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I see you did a lot of work typing this up. Just in case it disappears from 1993 Virginia tornado outbreak, I have copied it to User:Mr.Taka/Timeline of Virginia Tornado Outbreak. --Kevinkor2 17:13, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, per the discussion above this one, Mr.Taka has been indefintely blocked. Perhaps he'd still be willing to provide those source though. Leebo T/C 17:22, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Myhime" you want the sorce sr do you go to the Main page for reason history of VA! You find the way! Police, 911, ect!--Takaomi I. Shimoi 17:28, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shimoi 19:26, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We've been through this kind of thing before, on your other accounts. When you add information to Wikipedia, you have to say who came up with that information. You can't copy and paste it in without credit like you did. That's plagiarism, plain and simple, and it requires no knowledge of copyright law to see that. Leebo T/C 19:29, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I never knew that! i olny heard it was for images only.....by the way, im sorry for my poor grammer up there! Shimoi 15:30, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm certainly willing to acknowledge that anyone can make a mistake. And, we are not in the habit of blocking users (particularly indefinitely) for a simple mistake. However, I'm still troubled by one thing: you said you didn't copy this material from anywhere, but it was a copy-and-paste, right? I'll unblock you, but you must understand you can't just copy and paste things from other places. If this happens again you're likely to be blocked for it, and you may find that no one is inclined to unblock. Also, if there's a disagreement of some sort, please try to explain yourself in a calm and rational manner. If you're too excited to be calm and rational, try walking away for a while and editing again later. Friday (talk) 04:15, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saikano,I blocked you for the following reasons:

  • You used a sockpuppet to attempt to regain good standing with Wikipedia when we had already dealt with you for three months and eventually blocked you.
  • You were uncooperative this time too.
  • You attempted to deceive us about your identity (albeit unsuccessfully).
