Hello Mramoeba, a few days ago you reverted my changes on the title article, citing the reasons being that a) I was "refbombing with articles about 'unconfirmed sources' which don't support the information added", and b) using the names of minors. Now while the latter reason is very valid and I should be more sensitive and sensible about it, the former point is definitely not true, the references actually had interviews with the father of one of the victims believed to have committed suicide as a result of the game, the Algerian minister of communication discussing the game, news reports detailing the location, time, names of victims, and more details, all reported by known news outlets, and I've used the words "claim" and "allegedly" at every chance. Now I am just as skeptical as the next guy about this Blue Whale game frenzy which is most probably a moral panic, but I'd like to think that I followed best practice to include reported cases in Algeria. What's frustrating is that I had to convince another member of the Wikipedia community not to take down my contribution, and followed his/her instructions to make sure my contribution is up to the standards of Wikipedia. Could you please either educate me on how I can make my contributions more durable, or allow me to add the same part again after removing the minor name? --Modi mode (talk) 12:52, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Firstly the first sentence about the boy is entirely speculative, parents in distress are not reliable sources for Blue Whale. This should not be on the page at all. Besides which the BBC reference you cited did not appear to mention this case. The next sentence “many other reports of claimed attempted suicides linked to the game” is also deeply problematic. It is basically reliant on clickbait citations which use terminology like “other sources told Al-Arabiya.net that...”, and “According to informed sources...” it just isn’t good enough for an encyclopaedia. Does it sound encyclopaedic, does it add anything solid and informative to the page? No. Refbombing refers to the insertion of no less than 3 poorly formatted citations (take a look at the reflist for the version in question. I would suggest if you find articles which confirm beyond any doubt the influence of Blue Whale and they add informed content to the page, and is not a newspaper article about a death or attempted suicide, then it may be worth adding, but adding another country and another distraught parent’s comments in a newpaper is not adding anything but fuel to the fire. Thank you for your question and I bet you have some great content to add to other maybe more factual pages in the mean time. Mramoeba (talk) 17:58, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Canada

Have a look at this link to the Canadian Biennale (which strangely includes a lot of foreign artists)... but has a fairly complement of female artists. And Janet Cardiff. And Althea Thauberger headlining the Canadian Art web site. And this ROM show where more than half the artists are women. I'm not saying we are perfect, but please don't confuse American problems with Canadian problems. 104.163.147.121 (talk) 04:06, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

The source I linked wasn’t solely the USA. Here is a different analysis of Canada where the same problem exists. All of this is tangential, it is a worldwide phenomenon. We are all presumably on the same side with the same aims, creating and maintaining good informative pages. No one doubts the existance of successful female Canadian artists, what @Freshacconci: and I were referencing is the particular difficulties faced in sourcing press and eliminating gender imbalance on Wikipedia, which is also a thing. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:19, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in study

Hello,

I am E. Whittaker, an intern at Wikimedia with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. A full write-up of the study can be found here: m:Research:Civil_Behavior_Interviews. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? I am contacting you because of your involvement in Wikipedia’s Women in Red project. The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview.

Thank you Ewitch51 (talk) 21:35, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
