If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Matt Gifford requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. I've userfied the article for you to work on here: User:MrsGorilla/Matt Gifford.

There are some guidelines to work from when creating biographical articles that can be found at WP:BIO. In a nutshell, you need to demonstrate significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Several newspaper articles or magazine interviews and the like would do the trick. Hi, yes the Ben Forta article isn't very well written, although there are credible indications of notability. I've tagged it for reference improvement. I've transferred it from a "speedy deletion nomination" to an "articles for deletion" nomination, so you can make your case... the WP:OSE argument isn't one to make though. Author[edit]

See WP:AUTHOR; need (normally at least two) independent third-party (not connected to the author or publisher) Reliable Sources (not blogs, facebook, youtube, twitter, personal or 'official' sites, and certainly not sites that look like they came from from Wikipedia, which we call 'mirror sites' - the article is new enough that these haven't popped up yet) which cover the author as an individual (best new writer, etc.), although information about the book (or that is also included in the 'about the author' page/flap/cover info) may be there also. If there are any that you can include in the discussion, progress would be faster. Information might include who his writing influences were, birth date & location, parents, (siblings?), childhood, education, (degrees?), work history, (marriage?), etc. Sometimes this information is incomplete, vague, or even contradictory ('At 38', 'born in the 60s', 'oldest of three children', etc.). These may be in newspapers and not available online, although confirmation would then be more difficult. Dru of Id (talk) 15:57, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
