Deletion of Mad-Studios article

Dear Mushroom, I have now discovered that and other members have deleted my article for no apparent reason. The article was an innocent description of Mad-Studios. I would be very happy if you could "undelete" my article. I did not create it to harm any persons or parties. So I would like to know why it was deleted. King_Mnky

Hello, I deleted it according to CSD A7, a criterion for speedy deletion. If you think the deletion was incorrect or inappropriate, you can ask for its un-deletion at WP:DRV. Mushroom (Talk) 08:18, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Flamarande - that vandal hasn´t learned his leason

Hi, I noticed that an anonymus user did some minor vandalism as he changed the Template:Roman Empire infobox to link it to some internet site. He is "85.12.88.1 "which allready has been warned and been banned (for a week) by you. I don´t think that he has learned his lesson. perhaps you as an administrator could do something about it. But please check it out, don´t take only my word for it. Flamarande 11:48, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I thought you were in a wikibreak. Flamarande 12:08, 4 May 2006 (UTC) And I even warned User:Ferkelparade about that minor vandal. But still: slap him on the wrist. If you don´t use the rod , you will spoil the child. LOL Flamarande 12:08, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

I should be on Wikibreak ;) I have blocked him for another week. Mushroom (Talk) 12:11, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Fair use of SecretariatBelmontStakes.jpg

Hi there. When you get back from your break, I'd appreciate input on Image_talk:SecretariatBelmontStakes.jpg about its fair use. I have not added it to any pages it was on, but I have changed the tag the image has to be a proper fair use image tag, and have based my response on doing so. Thanks, Skybunny 18:52, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the detailed response. You have convinced me: the website copyright terms can't forbid fair use of the image, and you have provided adequate reasons for fair use. I have thus removed the {{fairusedisputed}} tag from the image's description page. Feel free to add the image back to the articles. I am not an expert, though, so if you want a more competent opinion you can ask at Wikipedia talk:Fair use. Mushroom (Talk) 23:28, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi there. After some thought, I've decided to go ahead and ask this question at Wikipedia talk:Fair use. This isn't the only image I've seen this happen on (another is Image:EK-32009.jpg), so what I've proposed there is a change to the {{Non-free fair use in}} template to reflect whether terms of service are relevant to the choice of an image for fair use. I suspect what we are really seeing here is a pattern of fair use dispute that someone with expertise should address.
I greatly appreciate your input, and thank you for your time. Skybunny 23:42, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Reblock of repeat vandal please

Not sure how subtle vandals get tagged but:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zoosexuality&diff=52756349&oldid=52657977

is vandalism. You've blocked this user before. Can you take whatever action is right.

Thanks. FT2 (Talk) 01:06, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for reporting him. I blocked him last time because he had vandalized a user page. This time I just warned him, but if he persists in vandalizing I will block him again. Mushroom (Talk) 13:12, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Block being evaded somehow

IP address 65.30.37.239 (talk · contribs) was used to make a nonsense edit to Gamera [1] at 01:08, 20 May 2006 (UTC), supposedly during a one-month block that you imposed only 2 days ago. I just checked the block log and I see your block listed. Can you determine what's going on? Thank you. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 03:10, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

I blocked that IP on April 18, so the block has expired. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on his contributions and if he continues vandalizing I will block him for another month. Mushroom (Talk) 14:09, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Laserfiche article?

Hello, I'm writing this because I notice that you've been doing linkspam removal on document management and you seem both knowledgeable and impartial on the subject. I'm an employee at Laserfiche, and I wrote an article on wikipedia describing the company. Yes, I know this is a serious faux pas, but apparently there was an article in existence before, which I was only vaugely aware of. (i.e. I knew it existed, but I had no idea what state the article had gotten into.) Anyways, a few weeks ago, I was on wikipedia, then thought to look at the Laserfiche article. Well, that's when I learned it got deleted back in March. I took a look at the old article via some wikipedia mirrors, and I felt that I could take a stab at creating a NPOV, verifiable article with no original research. (I'm sure you're thinking "ha!") Well, before I started, I also checked the criteria for Wikipedia:Notability (companies and corporations) and for Wikipedia:Notability (software), so I thought that Laserfiche met the criteria based on the large number of non-trivial mentions from independent sources. And since it had been flagged for deletion before, I put in a fair amount of effort to ensure that the article was NPOV and verifiable and didn't contain original research.

Anyways, the article has been flagged for deletion again, and since there's only a few people who have voted (but a LOT of comments), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Laserfiche (second nomination) I thought perhaps you might be able to make a judgement as well. Thanks, --Docmgmt 18:47, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your attention in this matter. --69.229.18.102 03:12, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

why odd things show up on watchlists

Hi there, you may remember that some months ago, I had asked you why I had articles on my watchlist that I did not put there. I think I've figured out how that happened. I think that if a vandal moves or redirects a page (for example, the Wikipedia main page) to a page under a new name (for example, Wikipedia IS COMMUNISM), that new page ends up on your watchlist as well, assuming that you have Wikipedia's main page on your watchlist.--Tachikoma 00:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Question about external links

Hi, Mushroom. Firstly, I want to thank you for the welcome in April, 2006. I have a question about the Wikipedia rules and since you left your name on my user talk page, I thought I might ask you. Are links to fansites allowed on articles such as Prison Break or other TV shows articles? I've previously left these links untouched but have seen other admins removing them. Recently, I've been removing fansite links and one of the user (who I supposed put the fansite link there) has asked me to stop removing the link. After this, I read the rules in Wikipedia:External_links#Occasionally_acceptable_links and it did say that in popular articles, fansite links are allowed. I am confused as to whether I should remove such links. Regards, Ladida 10:30, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Ladida. A link to a (major) fansite should be added only if it offers significant information that is not found in the other external links and references. Many users add those links just to advertise their sites, and this is not in Wikipedia's best interest, so feel free to remove them. A link to a fansite is acceptable only occasionally, and anyway it should be discussed on the article's talk page first, so that a consensus can be reached among editors. I have removed that link from Prison Break since the site doesn't seem particularly notable (it doesn't even have an Alexa traffic rank) and it wouldn't add much to the article. Furthermore, WP:EL says that it's wrong to add a link to "a website that you own or maintain", and that user said on your talk page that he maintains the site. Mushroom (Talk) 15:25, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Mushroom! Ladida 00:32, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
-GUYS, INSTEAD OF REMOVING MY FANSITE, WHY DONT YOU HELP MODERATE IT WHEN IT GROWS IN THE FUTURE INSTEAD?
THANKS. WERE ALL FANS HERE, NONE OF THIS RUBBISH REMOVAL PLEASE.

Article link from Meander Comedy Radio

Thank you, Mushroom, for the message. I understand that I will need to write an article to link to, regarding the station, and then put external links on the article page. Is that correct?

Thank you, in advance,

DJ

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.174.172.75 (talkcontribs) 21:56, 25 June 2006.

Yes, it's correct, and to write a new article you need to create an account (you can do it here). But please read Wikipedia:Notability and WP:WEB before creating the article: if that station is not notable enough the article may be nominated for deletion. Also note that it is against policy to write an article about yourself, your company, etc. (see WP:AUTO). Mushroom (Talk) 22:11, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Edit war

May I ask you to have a look at the Elvis Presley article and related pages, for instance, [2], [3]. User:Northmeister has started an edit war with me concerning the movies section of this article and its sandbox. He has repeatedly deleted material which is well sourced, falsely claiming that he is only rearranging the text, but it is obvious that this user has intentionally removed passages which are not in line with his all-too positive view of Elvis as a movie star, though all film critics agree that the singer's movies are pretty bad, as the many sources I have quoted prove. According to the Wikpedia guidelines, the removal of well-sourced passages is not acceptable and not NPOV. See, for instance, [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], etc. Do you have an idea what I could do? Onefortyone 01:26, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I see that the article has been protected by User:Hoary. Since this is essentially a content dispute, I think you should ask for mediation at Wikipedia:Requests for Mediation or Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal. A mediator may help you reach an agreement with User:Northmeister. Mushroom (Talk) 12:35, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Question

You know that thing (I dont know what its called) that people have at the end of their edits on talk pages, the thing that says the person who made the addition and what date it was when it was edited, how do you do that?

Johnston49er.

You just type four tildes: ~~~~. You can read more about this at WP:SIG. Mushroom (Talk) 00:22, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

And from me. I still don't have log, but you showed me the benefits. Yet again, from Matthew. 66.110.233.200 16:12, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Greetings

I figured out that you had created a page for me (my IP). I suppose the next step is for me to register a user name and all that. As you may have noticed, all my edits (occasional as they are) are (hopefully) constructive, though they do tend to get undone -which is discouraging (I mean why spend hours doing something only to have it thrown away?). Oh well. I don't think it's any worse for my edits vs. anyone else's. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

Thank's for your welcome

Excuse me for my poor english, but i will thank's for your kind welcome in english wiki, home page on Italian Wikipedia --Caulfieldholden 14:34, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Computer Soldier Porygon

This page has been recently deleted for being COV. I think it was not copyrighted. So may you please put that article back. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobabobabo (talkcontribs) 21:09, 5 July 2006

Hi, unfortunately I can't undelete that article because it's almost identical to this Bulbapedia entry. No content from Bulbapedia can be used on Wikipedia since Bulbapedia's non-commercial license is not compatible with Wikipedia's GFDL, so it would be a copyright violation. Mushroom (Talk) 22:41, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Question about "My contributions"

1. In the "my contributions" section, I see the word:(top). What does it mean?

2. How can I know if my contribution were already reviewd or not?

3. Sorry, I am new at it and I forgot how to become a subdirectory in your Table of Content.

--mp 14:41, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

  1. It means that your contribution is the latest for the page (there have been no other edits after yours).
  2. You can see if someone has modified or reverted your edits by keeping the articles in your watchlist or checking the articles' history.
  3. No problem, all headings get automatically added to the ToC.

Hi Mushroom, where's the tag for this photograph? I just noticed it got no tags whatsoever, so I thought you'd like to add proper tags, warnings or else. If you'd like a replacement, you can use it mine (Image:Diet coke 001.jpg). The uploader of this image seem to keep deleting the warnings by OrphanBot and others. Would you care taking a look? Thank You -- Omernos 13:23, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I have replaced it and deleted the old one. That user has uploaded some more unsourced/unlicensed images. I will take care of them ;) Mushroom (Talk) 21:38, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Featured Article Star

When the feature article star is placed in an article, how do they get it up to the top right corner?

I'm planning to make one of those images for the Anime and Manga wikiproject, so the article could be added and not the talk page. ~VNinja~

They use the {{FA}} template, but it's the only template of its kind. A similar template was created for good articles, but it was nominated for deletion and deleted, so I don't know if it's a good idea :) Mushroom (Talk) 00:46, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
I didn't know that.... it is a bad idea... Well, thanks, I have another way of doing things that requires a tiny bit more of work, so thanks!~VNinja~

Cumberland maryland episcopal

Why did you remove this picture?!? its just an amature digital photograph taken outside of the building...there's nothing special about it... you wiki admins are just a bunch of weenies... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alleganywiki (talkcontribs) 12:32, 16 July 2006

I deleted it because it didn't have a copyright tag. If you go to Special:Upload, you'll see that:
Your file will be deleted unless you provide detailed information on both:
*the source of the file,
*the copyright holder and the license of the file, including: a copyright/license tag... and so on.
You didn't provide any of the required information, and you were properly warned, so you can't blame me for the deletion. But the image can be un-deleted, if you provide the source and copyright info. Mushroom (Talk) 12:59, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Citrix Systems

Why do you keep deleting my certification links to www.citrixxperience.com/cca.php, www.citrixxperience.com/ccea.php, and www.citrixxperience.com/ccia.php? They are informational pages on my site. Just because my site is a commercial site doesn't mean I don't have information too. Have you even looked at where the links point to?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.208.33.185 (talkcontribs) 13:47, 16 July 2006

We don't link to commercial sites, unless they are official. See Links normally to be avoided. Mushroom (Talk) 13:49, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Newb question

Are non-admins supposed to ever place warning templates in vandals' talk pages or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blue Typhoon (talkcontribs) 14:35, 16 July 2006

Yes, everyone can warn vandals. You can use the standard warning templates. After {{test4}}, you can report the vandals to WP:AIV and an administrator will block them. Read Wikipedia:Vandalism for more information. Mushroom (Talk) 14:46, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
