[edit]
The Civility Barnstar
For single-handedly saving Grrr (2024 film)! DareshMohan (talk) 02:17, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, DareshMohan. I am not sure I deserve this one but I very gladly receive it.. Best, -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 08:04, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

Can you check the notability of Oollo Pelliki Kukkala Hadavidi -- no reviews? DareshMohan (talk) 21:21, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DareshMohan, no, apparently there's no review online but production was covered in the Deccan Chronicle and in the TOI twice, so I'd consider that with a notable cast that's been noted for its size, the film should meet GNG. Which, makes me think, that films like Image or Chappale, that you had mentioned lately might also be OK, after all (one having reviews but by the same journalist) and if challenged, redirected. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 08:24, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine. Those films are rather minor. Its best to stick with two reliable reviews. DareshMohan (talk) 08:34, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you check the sources of Abhinay, Kalloori Vinoth and Mahadevan (actor) and tell if better sources are needed. DareshMohan (talk) 03:17, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!

Just wanted to drop you a note about your !vote on the above AfD. I just wanted to make you aware of WP:LSC for future reference, these sort of lists normally require someone to have an article for inclusion on those pages, so a redirect in this case would likely be useless. I'm not trying to change the vote (hence not pinging you on there), but just wanted to make sure you were aware of the above! Cheers, Mdann52 (talk) 18:30, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thank you. Yes, I know that page. Still, I do think a redirect is acceptable and so is her inclusion in the list, given her notoriety. Not opposed to keep, if you prefer. Best,-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 18:40, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PS- I hadn't seen the page had been improved vastly and sources tend to show she's notable. So I'll change my vote to !Keep. Not sure you've seen those sources.

Specialized ink color

[edit]

Could you please not use specialized coloring such as you did on AFD for Heer De Hero and 1905 (film). It makes the text glaring and hard to read for some editors. This might be cute and creative to you, but it hurts my eyes to even try to read it. I hate to think what it's like for people with serious vision issues. Please just stick to the normal black and no glaring highlighting. Thank you. — Maile (talk) 03:15, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello to you too. I'll use grey for quotations of sources then, which is not "glaring". (You'll note that the green used for tq is not my deed.)-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 07:15, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is it allowed?

[edit]

Is it allowed for an editor to edit only their own articles and gatekeep it [1] [2]? They should declare their COI on their page, they seem to be Jagadeesh Kanna themselves. DareshMohan (talk) 23:43, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DareshMohan, I can't say if there's a COI, and you can ask them, but reverting your edit would have deserved AT LEAST an explanation. You did well to reinstate it. The List of Published works section is also a bit bizarre. But no, obviously no one owns any article, although, yes, if someone wants to edit only 2 articles, even about them, I would say they can. It's just that writing about yourself is not recommended; but not prohibited (so yes, it's allowed, although, as you say, disclosure is preferable and it often leads to edit wars (the person wants a better picture or no picture, details about something but no mention of something else, etc)). It might not be the case, though. Best,-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 00:02, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They may be notable for their work in the Indian astronomy industry but the listing of an unsourced film called Thiraikadal seems unwarranted: Jagadeesh_Kanna#Filmography. I'm not sure about the role of an artist is. I had removed it, but they readded it, must be a dual role. The career section seems to already mention his film Naalu Peruku Nalladhuna Edhuvum Thappilla. The table seems unwarranted since he only acted in one feature film. I would split the filmography table into films and music album, but they might revert my edit. I have never seen the - dash symbol randomly placed in the filmography table. DareshMohan (talk) 06:48, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused about this policy: Wikipedia:There is no deadline

[edit]

It feels like editing too frequently can be a problem.

I found several articles with 3 reliable reviews and I create say three articles back to back. Is that against View one: Don't rush to create articles.

I made a mistake and I feel like reverting it the second I remember it. View seven: Submission hesitancy. Someone else can revert your error. DareshMohan (talk) 07:16, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DareshMohan, don't forget this is just an essay. But no I don't think your first example goes against its view#1. And as for the second example, I would rather take view#7 as another way to say "Hey, if you're not that sure, there's no need to worry, you can try or not try, but if you try and if it turns out to be wrong, someone may revert you." My personal opinion is that you're an experienced and scrupulous contributor and you can afford to be bold without worrying too much. But yes, I agree, because this essay goes in various directions (warning, encouraging?), I think it's slightly confusing. Best,-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 15:56, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

Is Chidananda S Naik notable? Almost every single other short film that won did not have an article for the short film or the director per Cinéfondation. I am not sure if the short film warrants an article because all of the source say "Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know wins La Cinef Award". DareshMohan (talk) 18:21, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, DareshMohan, I am not sure I would consider him notable so far, the article has 2 "primary" sources (interviews) and 2 sources about an award for his directorial debut short shot in 4 days during his 1-year cinema course....; there's also https://variety.com/2024/film/global/cannes-la-cinef-award-chidananda-s-naik-1236014626/ . Notable as director of a short that has received an award? Not sure the coverage about the said film receiving that award is significant and not sure it's enough to warrant a page about him, no. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 22:01, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it to a redirect. I noticed that not many editors are not brave enough to put articles through deletion since it is frowned upon. @Jeraxmoira: do you know that long interviews are not independent sources? DareshMohan (talk) 00:07, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to say thanks to your nice research in this AfD (and other AfDs in general). I feel bad when other editors lash out of you because you are edits are genuine, hope you don't take it personally. DareshMohan (talk) 22:00, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, there is a move discussion at Talk:Public Sector Undertakings in India which is receiving less participation and is likely to be closed without a clear consensus. I would greatly appreciate if you could spare some time and leave your valuable opinion. Thank you. Have a great day. 2409:4073:104:92C2:9939:2182:D47D:646F (talk) 16:41, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Pani (upcoming film)

[edit]

Hello Mushy Yank,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Pani (upcoming film) for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want Pani (upcoming film) to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Draftify script

[edit]

Hi Mushy, I do not know how often you draftify articles but even if it's occasional you might consider installing User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft which will automatically tag the leftover mainspace redirect for deletion, leave the creator a note which to an extent you can customize and adds the AfC draft template to the draft. There are couple things I don't like about it but overall it does make it a bit easier. S0091 (talk) 18:55, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thanks a lot, S0091. That script seems quite handy, yes! Best, -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 19:14, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ultimately confused

[edit]

Due to the different votes in both Chidananda S Naik (discussed above) and Eashvar Karthic. WP:ANYBIO makes me think that anybody who has directed a film that has reliable reviews and an interview/mention in scholarly journal notable (even if a student writes it?) makes them notable? I'm confused. I don't understand if the content is less why it can be considered WP:TOOEARLY. DareshMohan (talk) 21:33, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DareshMohan. I think the difference is in coverage and the type of films, at least for me. The first has only directed a short student film, that received very limited coverage in terms of depth (1-2 sentences about plot, basically, and I am not sure the journalists have seen the film; I've watched the trailer it doesn't look bad and maybe even good but that's not the coverage about the film that I would expect for proving the notability of its student-director) and an award, significant, maybe but whose aim is explicitly to help filmmakers of the future by highlighting their first creation. The latter has directed at least a feature film with theatrical release and distribution, a film that received proper reviews. He doesn't meet ANYBIO, but WP:DIRECTOR imv. I am not sure what kind of interviews in university journals you are referring to. Nor what your last sentence means. Anyway if you consider Chidananda S Naik's film notable and coverage significant, you could consider he meets WP:DIRECTOR. I don't. As for ANYBIO, I don't either: he did not receive any award, the film did. All sources say it. Best,-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 13:26, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain the rationale behind unilaterally moving this BLP back to the main NS? There was a discussion for it to go through AFC, and the article's creator also said they would do so. Why was it hurriedly moved back to the main NS? Why is the AFC route being overlooked?Saqib (talk I contribs) 10:59, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And it's really awkward that you removed these tags from the BLP without any valid reason or even addressing the underlying issues. Do you think I added them for fun?Saqib (talk I contribs) 11:02, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello to you too. Read my edit summary, thank you.-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 11:07, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your edit summary reads Issues seem addressed; meets ANYBIO for the significant and well-known award she received for her career. but I don't see any issues being resolved. The BLP still clearly contains WP:OR and relies on unreliable sources - even if you don't acknowledge that. Secondly, the WP:ANYBIO does not override the GNG. Do you have anything further to add before I revert your edit and send the BLP back to draft? The article was created by a UPE (though they won't admit it) and should undergo proper AFC review.Saqib (talk I contribs) 11:12, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot revert it to draft. Your own recent edit (that followed the insertion of the tags and was a substantial removal of material) and mine seem to have addressed the issues mentioned in the tag. The UPE issue is not clear to me and promotional language is not apparent on the page. Should you wish to pursue this conversation, I am inviting you to do it on the talk page of the article. Thank you.-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 11:19, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I removed a chunk of material as suggested by two different editors here and here, but that doesn't mean all issues are resolved. On a different note, could you please explain why you remove maintenance tags without fixing the underlying issues or taking the time to address the concerns on the relevant tp's? I've countless diffs where you've done this!Saqib (talk I contribs) 11:38, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Above discussion continuation

[edit]

i was referring to references 6 and 7 on Eshvar Karthic seticle and [3]. Source 7 looked in detail but not sure if a student at the American College, Madurai was notable. DareshMohan (talk) 12:46, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Ah, OK! Thanks. The first seems to mention Karthic only once. But the second is a whole, if short (2 pages), article focusing on his film in a peer-reviewed journal and should count imv. Both seem to confirm a certain notability.-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 13:20, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. P. S. you're slanted layout made me have a hard time adding to this previous discussion via mobile. :) DareshMohan (talk) 07:34, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mushy Yank,

I think you closed this AFD prematurely. Four Keep votes is not considered enough to quality for SNOWBALL, that really applies to an AFD discussion where there are many (like 8-12 Keep votes) with no Delete votes. It's not a big enough issue that would cause me to reopen this AFD but I'm informing you in case you consider future AFD closures that the bar for a SNOWBALL is much higher than 4 editors arguing to Keep an article. Thank you for your continued participation in AFD discussions. Liz Read! Talk! 00:34, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Hey Mushy Yank. You recently removed the deletion proposal from this article(that I created), and you suggested drafting or redirecting as an alt. Can u help with the procedure of drafting, bcz this didn't help. – ツredmynameツ💬 20:37, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Redmyname31. You're right it can't be moved to draft because a draft already exists. I'll redirect it to the page about the director for now. Thanks,-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 20:51, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Prateek Sharma

[edit]

Hi Mushy Yank! I just wanted to check - your recent edit removed the paid tag on Prateek Sharma. Was there a reason this was removed? - Bilby (talk) 10:38, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bilby. Yes, there was. 2 sections are still unsourced but I didn't see anything overtly promotional or non-neutral. Except maybe one sentence. Hence the new tag. Mostly, the paid-contribution tag was there since 2020 and the page hasn't been edited by potential paid accounts since 2021, as far as I can see. I’ll remove a few things, feel free to remove or source more. Thanks.-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 10:48, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problems. I just wanted to ensure it wasn't an accident. If you feel it should be removed it is fine with me. - Bilby (talk) 11:07, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Curious why you removed @Rosguill's notability tag on Nenjathai Killadhe (2014 TV series) without discussing? This page is at AfD for the very reason that its notability is questionable, so it seems premature to remove the tag. Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:03, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, because you took it to Afd and that notabilty is precisely discussed there, so that the tag is now redundant. No opinion (yet) on whether it is notable or not myself. (My edit summary should have been: Afd but, as often, with my es, it was autocorrected erroneously)-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 17:08, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. I generally leave the maintenance tags on until conclusion of the discussion (particularly in case of a N/C outcome) but your approach makes sense once explained. Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:11, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If it wasn't for Wikipedia, what should I do?

[edit]

Basically the title. Do you know any alternatives to editing Wikipedia? I don't want it to be a hinderance to my real life (i.e. I would rather finish an edit than complete a useful task) in the long term but I genuinely enjoy editing but I would want to take a break and return when I am "successful". I can't spend as much time on YouTube shorts or social media and have not gotten into video games. I like to contribute to the online community (i.e. edit google maps), but I know that such things aren't normal as most people don't edit Wikipedia. DareshMohan (talk) 06:43, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DareshMohan. Good and fair question. You are right: a small screen is not the best in life. And it can cause great trouble. The closest (but healthy) thing to editing an online encyclopaedia would be read and study (paper encyclopaedias are great), but if you have a job and working hours allow, cinema theaters, monuments, museums, nature, and sports! Drop YT and RS. If you worry it's a hinderance, it probably means you are right and need to go out. I would stop editing for a month and just would not even use Wikipedia (!) and force myself to paper ressources when I need them, if you have easy access to a library. Yeah, that's where I (would) go first, if I had time (and actually, that's what I do): a real library. It's a joyful and meditative place and it has real people (hopefully) reading in it. And if you miss Wikipedia (it will miss you but it can cope with it) send (upload) a picture! And if you like to write and film, you can start reviewing films for yourself. Do it on a notebook so that you won't be tempted to open this Pandora box. Addictions are not good and life is bigger than a screen. People managed living without the Internet! Best,-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 08:18, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
DareshMohan, try going to a retreat. Or a spiritual travel. If mobile phones were not so essential to our jobs and personal life, I'd have destroyed mine long ago. Or given it away. But I'm also getting increasingly less time on Wiki due to my work timings. I want to quit Wiki when there is someone as skilled and committed as us. Or when vandalism patrolling improves.
