Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Sign your messages with four tildes (~~~~), be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Jip Orlando (talk) 15:46, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hi. I reverted your external link additions to many articles. The links appear to be translations with commentary and/or transcriptions. Are these substantially different than the Project Gutenberg ones? The only major difference I see is that there is a tag on the top of the externally-linked pages that there may be some student commentary on the books. As such, this appears to be linkspamming and inappropriate for external links. Jip Orlando (talk) 15:49, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Jip Orlando. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Please engage. If you continue your behavior without explanation and discussion, I will escalate to a noticeboard. Thank you. Jip Orlando (talk) 13:21, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Jip; See WP:LINKSTOAVOID (line item #2). The highlight and comments from school staff and students is "unverifiable research" and doesn't merit linking from an encyclopedia. See also WP:NOTHERE.... you're spamming that site to articles, not working on building encyclopedic content. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 15:24, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm gonna jump in here and try to soften this a bit. I can see why you might think the linked material might be appropriate, but really, we can't be endorsing student-generated content, even if it's faculty-supervised. EEng 16:07, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
