Help me[edit]

I need my ads fix. NCISfan2 (talk)20:23, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed with this edit. When this template is given a list of advert numbers, you have to tell it how many numbers are in the list - five in this case. -- John of Reading (talk) 22:01, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for helping me.NCISfan2 (talk)15:20, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was easy! Strange to say, I'd helped someone else with exactly the same problem only a day or two ago. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:26, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! Also, can you give me the template that would put my Username in gold and my talk in oragne? NCISfan2 (talk)15:28, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can't use a template for that, but there are lots of examples at User:Athaenara/Gallery and lots of colours listed in the Web colors article. So, after playing around a bit, this markup...
<font color="#DAA520">NCISfan2</font > <font color="#FF4500">(talk)</font>
...displays as NCISfan2 (talk). If that looks good to you, go to "My preferences", copy that markup into the signature box, tick the checkbox underneath that is labelled "Treat the above as wiki markup", and save your preferences. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:40, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! You may also edit the whole thing to copy and paste the tabs for your user page. Do you think you can get the userbox that says "This user has no licensce." (I may have spelled it wrong)? There is a place for it on my user page.NCISfan2 (talk) 15:46, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean User car-1? I found that using the "Advanced search" function, searching in the "template" namespace: search link. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:50, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's not the one it has a no licensce as the picture.NCISfan2 (talk) 15:57, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find any page with the exact text "This user has no licence" or "This user has no license". Can you remember where you saw it? -- John of Reading (talk) 16:01, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

nvm. Found it! Btw, are you an adim?NCISfan2 (talk) 17:00, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:04, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ok.

This user wants to be your friend.

Is it ok with you if we be this? NCISfan2 (talk) 17:10, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'll be watching your talk page in case you have any more questions. That's about as far as it goes at Wikipedia... -- John of Reading (talk) 17:12, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Help[edit]

I would like a userbox template to be created. The template should look like this:

...which would produce this:

This user likes Roblox

Hi, it's me again. I've created a first version of the page for you, at User:NCISfan2/Userboxes/Roblox. It's content is a complete guess on my part, and you can adjust it as you wish by following the instructions at Template:Userbox-r. Do whatever you like with it.
A few other comments:
 1. You tried to summon an administrator by using the admin help template, but because you stuck "nowiki" tags round it, nothing happened.
 2. Ordinary users can create userboxes; you don't need to summon an administrator. You can create your next userbox yourself.
 3. Because Wikipedia restricts the use of non-free images, you must take care only to use images that are marked "public domain" or "creative commons".
 4. When you've finished building your user page, remember that the aim of all editing at Wikipedia is to write an encyclopedia! -- John of Reading (talk) 20:29, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Also, can you please create another userbox? (I tried doing it myself, didn't work.) The template should be:

...which would produce this:
This user likes NCIS.

Thanks! NCISfan2 (talk) 20:43, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've done that one as well, User:NCISfan2/Userboxes/NCIS. In your example code here, you hadn't set the image sizes, so they would have been drawn much too large for a user box. Was that the problem? That's covered in the Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:13, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NCIS (season 9)[edit]

Would it be ok if we put him as a guest? NCISfan2 (talk) 19:46, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if you are thinking about Mike Franks and the cast chart for season 9, I believe the norm is that the character has to be a main cast (including "also starring") to be mentioned. Guests and recurring characters doesn't normally get listed there. That's how I've understood it Jonny2BeGood (talk) 20:06, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Accept my page[edit]

Can you please accpet the following page and put this ( < User:NCISfan2) at the top? Link: 1 Thanks!NCISfan2 (talk) 19:30, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Me again - not an administrator, but this request doesn't need one. Userboxes don't need to be accepted or reviewed in the same way as articles, so you can create them yourself at "User:NCISfan2/Userboxes/Whateveryoulike". I'll move your new page for you and tidy it a bit. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:09, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(More) OK, it's at User:NCISfan2/Userboxes/Gibbs (NCIS). Can you do the user page edit to add the box where you'd like it? -- John of Reading (talk) 20:23, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Protection Policies[edit]

How do protection policies work? NCISfan2 (talk) 17:34, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The page protection policy would be a good place to start reading. If you have any specific questions about the policy, feel free to ask. --Chris (talk) 17:53, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can you cut and paste the protection templates that are listed here and put them onto my user page?
pp-move-indef
Thanks!NCISfan2 (talk) 19:36, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Are you wanting a list of templates? If so, you can invoke protection templates. Like this:
There's no need to ask people to do stuff for you -- this is a wiki, the whole point is that you can do stuff yourself. If you need help doing something then feel free to ask for help, but asking everyone to do everything for you is contrary to the nature of wikis. --Chris (talk) 19:39, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No. I mean that I can't put those templates on and have the icon becuase I'm not an administrator, but you are. So I am asking you if you can put those templates on my user page and have the icon. NCISfan2 (talk) 19:52, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But your user page is not protected. Is there a reason it needs to be? --Chris (talk) 19:54, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Becuase I want it to be.NCISfan2 (talk) 19:55, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have applied indefinite semi-protection for edits and indefinite full protection for moves. We can't do full protection for edits except in cases of extreme vandalism since that would prevent you from editing the page too. --Chris (talk) 20:04, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help me[edit]

I want to create a template and I don't know how! Here is the template link:

unexpected power-out
...and it should create this:
Example may have an unexpected power-out and will be may be on an imidate wiki-break.

Thanks!NCISfan2 (talk) 17:19, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that there would be enough usage of this template to justify creating it in the main template namespace, but the wiki software will let you use just about any page as a template. So, for example, you could create the page User:NCISfan2/unexpected power-out. Click this link and then use the "create" tab at the upper right to begin editing the new page. After you save it, you can call the template like this: . --Chris (talk) 17:42, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

February 2012[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. In your recent edit to NCIS (season 9), you added links to an article which did not add content or meaning, or repeated the same link several times throughout the article. Please see Wikipedia's guideline on links to avoid overlinking. Thank you. Davejohnsan (talk) 19:47, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello NCISfan2, I have removed File:WINDOWS 7 PC STICKER.svg from User:NCISfan2/Userboxes/Windows 7 Laptop-Contribute, as the file is non-free. Under the non-free content criteria, specifically criteria number nine, non-free files may not be used outside of article space. Please do not restore the file. If you have any questions, I would be happy to help you. Best, Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 01:11, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can you find another offical Windows 7 logo? Thanks! NCISfan2 (talk) 15:23, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikimedia Commons search page is here; all files at "commons" can be used in userboxes. How about File:Own windows logo 7.svg, which won't look too bad when scaled down small enough for a user box? -- John of Reading (talk) 15:35, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing help templates without helping[edit]

NCISfan2, I noticed that you had removed several helpme and admin help templates without actually helping the requester. Some examples:

 • Example 1 - question about if it was okay to violate copyright. You said he could.
 • Example 2 - question about changing his username. You wrote, "I'll have an adimin [sic] get on it."—but you never notified anyone.
 • Example 3 - question about how to expand an article (which had been tagged with expand). You gave him advice on how to create his own expand template.
 • Example 4 - question about undeleting an image (editor had uploaded an image which was then deleted as a copyright violation). You responded by trying to shut down the ArticlesForCreationBot.
 • Example 5 - user requested that an IP address be blocked for reverting him twice. You said you'd take care of it, but weren't able to.

And so on…

According to the edit counter, you've been on Wikipedia for three weeks, during which time you've made all of 19 article edits. I suggest you try spending some more time working on articles (this is an encyclopedia, after all) and less time trying to help people until you have considerably more experience. Thanks! DoriTalkContribs 22:44, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you haven't followed this advice yet. Although the instructions for the help me template say it should go on a user talk page, it actually works well on any talk page. There was no need to move it. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:06, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Another example: the poor advice you left here (now reverted). Honestly, NCISfan2, are you here to build an encyclopedia, or for some other reason? Cleaning up after you is not the best use of anyone's time.
And to answer the question you left on my talk page, yes, I did see your user page. And? DoriTalkContribs 02:30, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Did you see that I'm busy sometimes? NCISfan2 (talk) 15:18, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As are many of us. If you're busy yet want to contribute to Wikipedia, try spending less time making changes that others have to revert. Currently, it's wasting both your time and ours. DoriTalkContribs 21:58, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adim Help[edit]

Can an adimin add this template:

to 206.248.123.79 for blanking a page? Thanks! NCISfan2 (talk) 15:49, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(Not an admin, adim, or adimin) Please see Wikipedia:Vandalism#For beginners. You don't need to ask anyone else to post a warning template, as you can do this yourself. But the only page that this IP has blanked, as far as I can see, is User talk:206.248.123.79, their own talk page, and this is explicitly allowed. -- John of Reading (talk) 16:09, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(More) Thanks for your email. The information you sent me isn't at all secret; at the bottom of User talk:206.248.123.79 are links to a bunch of tools which can report all sorts of data about an IP address. Knowing the IP's location doesn't affect the advice in my previous message here. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:12, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Misuse of protection templates[edit]

Hey, please don't do this. Adding a protection template to a page doesn't make it protected. This template is not permanently fully protected, and so adding permprot to it is not appropriate. Thanks. --Chris (talk) 17:34, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation[edit]

Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are a group of editors who work together on the Articles for creation and Files for upload pages.

A few tips that you might find helpful:

 • Please take time to fully read the reviewers' instructions before reviewing submissions.
 • The project's discussion board is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
 • Article submissions that need reviewing can be found in Category:Pending AfC submissions and there is also a useful list which is maintained by a bot.
 • You might wish to add AFC status to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
 • Several of our members monitor the #wikipedia-en-help connect IRC channel, and you are welcome to join in to ask Wikipedia-related questions.
 • The IRC channel #wikipedia-en-afc connect is used occasionally for internal discussion regarding the Articles for Creation process, and also serves as a recent changes feed, displaying all edits made in the Articles for Creation namespace.
 • The help desk is the place where new editors can ask questions about their submissions. You are welcome to help in answering their questions.

Once again, welcome to the project. NCISfan2 (talk) 19:55, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted Main Page2, and as it has been created a few times in the past, I'm going to salt it. Yours, —Tom Morris (talk) 20:10, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you moved WT:Articles for creation/NCC Group to WP:Articles for creation/NCC Group, and based on your subsequent edit summaries, realized that you'd made a mistake. Unfortunately, moves like that require admins to do the cleanup. And more unfortunately, you just abandoned the mess instead of notifying an admin.

I've filed a request for the move to be reverted. In the future, if you do something along these lines again, please take care of the cleanup/cleanup request yourself, ok? DoriTalkContribs 06:14, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot III[edit]

Can someone check to see if the bot is working on my talk page? Thanks! NCISfan2 (talk) 17:12, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, the template auto archiving notice only displays a notice about archiving. To signal the bot that you'd like the page archived, you need to adapt one of the examples from User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo. Would you like me to do it for you? -- John of Reading (talk) 17:27, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That would be nice because I'm doing two things at once. Thanks! NCISfan2 (talk) 17:28, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I didn't look down far enough to see that the "User:MiszaBot/config" was already there. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:32, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can someone check to see if the bot is working? If not, please place this: help me-working instead of: help me-helped. Thanks! NCISfan2 (talk) 13:19, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The bot last ran on the 9th. You can check the bot's actions yourself by displaying Special:Contributions/MiszaBot III. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:37, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So it's being worked on. NCISfan2 (talk) 14:29, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Misused of warning templates[edit]

I've begun to notice a worrying trend in your use of warning templates. Early this month, you left one or more warnings on the talk pages of editors editing on the television series NCIS, including two on my own, for old edits you arbitrarily seem to have decided were vandalism. The warnings were out of date and inappropriate, and were removed from my talk page by another editor. Today, I discover you've warned User:AussieLegend, that same editor, for biting an unidentified newbie on an unidentified talk page on an unstated date. I cannot stress strongly enough that warning templates should be used with care, and only when genuinely needed. You appear to have very limited or no command of how warning templates are used (given your entirely inappropriate use of these and others), and should refrain from doing so until you've taken the time to learn how warning templates are used, and when. There is no discernible edit in the last 48 ours or so that even remotely falls under the umbrella of biting a newbie, and anything older than that is too stale dated to merit a warning; regardless, without specific detail, your warning is pointless. In truth, the warning on Aussie Legend's talk page looks far more like retaliation than any sort of valid warning. --Drmargi (talk) 02:06, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I believe the warning NCISfan2 left AussieLegend was in response to the warning AussieLegend left NCISfan2. Similarly, the warning NCISfan2 left 206.248.123.79 was in response to the warning 206.248.123.79 left NCISfan2. I agree that these do give the appearance of being retaliatory—NCIS2fan, I really recommend that you avoid this in the future. DoriTalkContribs 04:09, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you here to improve the encyclopedia?[edit]

This edit is very disturbing. You have been warned about harassment, yet you made that edit anyway.

Why are you here? Looking at your edit stats, of the 600 edits you have made, only 46 have been made to the actual encyclopedia. If you are here to improve the encyclopedia, you should revert your statement immediately to keep from being blocked. If you aren't here to improve the encyclopedia, you are well on your way to being indefinitely blocked.

You should take a look at this tutorial to understand editing Wikipedia. Please cease your disruption and improve an article in the encyclopedia instead. Acps110 (talkcontribs) 16:36, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

March 2012[edit]

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to List of NCIS episodes. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. AussieLegend (talk) 07:13, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can't just edit in peace can I?NCISfan2 (talk) 13:51, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you included sources instead of adding unsourced content you might be a step closer. --AussieLegend (talk) 13:58, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition to NCIS (season 9) has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Considering the number of warnings that you have already received, you should consider this your final warning. AussieLegend (talk) 14:45, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just please leave me alone.NCISfan2 (talk) 15:01, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed your thread there, as bureaucrats are in no position to remove adminship on someone's say-so. Theoretically there is a better place to post it, but I'm going to hold off on giving that info to you because I am pretty confident it would result in your being blocked. AussieLegend is not harassing you, and is telling you things you need to hear if you want to continue editing here. Please listen to him. --Floquenbeam (talk) 16:32, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On further review of your edit history here, I'd say you have been given enough warnings that a final warning before being blocked indefinitely is appropriate. Therefore, if you make any more disruptive edits, you will be blocked indefinitely without further warnings. If you're new to a website, it is your job to learn the way that website works, and not be combative with people politely trying to correct your multiple mistakes. --Floquenbeam (talk) 16:38, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HBC Archive Indexerbot[edit]

I noticed that the HBC Archive Indexerbot had blanked this talk page. I have undone the bot edit and removed the "can blank this" line that allowed the edit. The opt-in instructions aren't especially clear, but it looks as if you need to create a new subpage, empty apart from the "can blank this" line, that the bot can completely destroy and rewrite. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:38, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the page above appears at the page Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates because your page is not protected, and it doesn't need to be protected as only you and admins can edit it. Could you please remove the pp-templates? Thank you. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 20:50, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can some put this on CrazyComputer's talk page? Thanks!NCISfan2 (talk) 16:18, 19 March 2012 (UTC) (Just edit, copy, and pate onto Crazy's talk page)[reply]

No, unblock requests go on your own page so that they can be reviewed by a previously uninvolved admin. Beeblebrox (talk) 16:22, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I know I did something a bit wrong, but come on everyone makes mistakes. Also, I understand what I have been blocked for, will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and will make useful contributions instead. If I don't follow this, then I should be banned from Wikipedia forever. So, do we have a deal? NCISfan2 (talk) 16:30, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Sockpuppetry, maybe you could talk your way out of. Disruptive editing, maybe you could talk your way out of. Long term disruptive socking? No. Please go find another website. I've removed talk page access, as it is guaranteed not going to lead to anything productive. Floquenbeam (talk) 17:43, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You say you know why you were blocked. Can you please explain why you were blocked? GB fan 16:34, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I must say, as a victim of NCISfan2's abuse of templates (for purposes of harassment), I'm very uncomfortable with an admin who clearly has a shared interest in a topic where NCISfan2 might potentially edit coaching him on how to appeal a block. Moreover, this is a sockpuppet account, and not his first, so the user should comply with guidelines for requesting unblocking when found to be engaged in sockpuppetry. I've just opened a new SPI on an IP account that vandalized the article on Lego just this morning with WP:DUCK ties to this sockpuppet. --Drmargi (talk) 16:49, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Are you talking about me? GB fan 16:51, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. It might just be the way the sequence of messages fell, but it appeared you were responding to NCISfan2 via a shared interest in Lego, thus my concern about coaching. If I've misread the situation, my apologies in advance. --Drmargi (talk) 17:46, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You have completely misread the situation. I have no interest in Lego related articles. I have gone through my last 3000 edits and do not see any edits to any lego related articles. Please investigate before you accuse people of things in the future. The only reason I had this page on my watchlist is that NCISfan2 made a post at WP:BN. GB fan 19:26, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
NCISfan2, in order for me to consider this unblock request, you are going to have to list every Wikipedia account you have used in the past. This does not appear to be your first account. --Chris (talk) 16:47, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
