Please fill out our brief Teahouse guest survey

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedian, the hardworking hosts at WP:Teahouse would like your feedback! We have created a brief survey meant to help us better understand the experience of new editors on Wikipedia. You are being selected to participate in our survey because you edited the Teahouse Questions or Guests pages sometime in the last few months.

The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete. We really appreciate your feedback, and we look forward to your next vist to the Teahouse!

Happy editing,

Your latest question

[edit]

Hey, NC Daoist! I'm going to copy my answer to your latest question here, so that it won't be archived away, which is what happened to your first one. Here it is:

"We don't want it that way, and we try our best not to make it that way, but it's not always easy. Anyway, what happened here is that your question, and the associated answers, got archived, as they were three weeks old (the question was answered on the 10th of September). We archive our questions periodically; we have to, because otherwise the page would get too big and unusable. BUT! The good news is that we archive the questions, not delete them. Your question is still there in our archives! You can see it by following this link. In the future, if something similar happens, you can search our archives by going to the box labeled "archives", clicking on "show", and then entering your name into the search box. That'll give you all the questions you've asked or replied to from our archives. Hope this helps!" Writ Keeper 01:41, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, NC Daoist!

[edit]

Don't worry, I won't act condescending to you! It's legitimately confusing. The best way to reach me is actually to post at User talk:Writ Keeper, which is what's considered my talk page. The place you posted is my user page, at User:Writ Keeper, which isn't quite the same thing. No worries, you didn't do anything wrong; it's just that I get notified through email and "you've got messages" banners when someone posts to my talk page, which doesn't happen for my user page. This is the same mechanism that sends you emails; any time anyone edits this page, you'll get an email notification, since this is where people will go to try to catch your attention. This page is titled User talk:NC Daoist: the pattern of "User talk:<username>" is a consistent one. Any time you need to get a user's attention, that's the place to go. So, say you want to talk to the person who goes by the username "WikiUser", for example. You'd go to the page "User talk:WikiUser" and post your message there, and that'll get their attention. Does that make sense?

Like I said, it's complicated; you really shouldn't feel ashamed at all that you're confused by it! You're more than welcome to ask me any questions you want; I won't bite. You can ask me on my talk page, which again is located here: User talk:Writ Keeper. I'll keep an eye on this page, too. Writ Keeper 04:06, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
