Edit at Smriti Mandhana[edit]
You reverted my edit on Smriti Mandhana by stating it was non-constructive. I want to clarify that I only removed one of the two citations used in the lead for the pronunciation of her name, as both citations serve the same purpose and are redundant. I used the same video as the previous citation but from the original upload on the channel of Asian Paints. Therefore, I don't understand why you consider my edit unconstructive. Please clarify. I am writing this to avoid edit war on the Smriti Mandhana page. Thanks. VK wiki100 06:34, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- The citation given is supposed to state how to pronounce the name like this previous one. But, the one you added is "Asian Paints Presents Where The Heart Is Season 4 Episode 02 featuring Smriti Mandhana". How is that relevant? Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 07:20, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- I didn't add it; it was already there. I just pointed it to the original upload. It is the same as the previous second citation, and Smriti herself pronounces her name in it. That's the reason why it is cited. I've removed the previous first citation because it had only 930 views, and the channel was not trustworthy. It still showed the same pronunciation as Smriti in the second citation, so it was redundant to include both. That's why I've removed the less trustworthy one. VK wiki100 08:01, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- When it comes to pronunciation, simple videos like these: [1][2][3] which only contains the pronunciation are better. Unlike the above 7 minute video which includes many other unrelated contents; these only have what's needed. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 13:39, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- I understand, but the issue lies in the uncertainty of the reliability of these videos. All three videos you provided have different pronunciations of her name. In this situation, it's best to use a primary source. If you could find a shorter and more to-the-point video of Smriti herself pronouncing her name, that would be very helpful. Tech News: 2024-24[edit]
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- The software used to render SVG files has been updated to a new version, fixing many longstanding bugs in SVG rendering. [4]
The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It was changed last week in some skins (Vector legacy and Minerva). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in Vector-2022. The developers are still considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.
The HTML markup used for citations by Parsoid changed last week. In places where Parsoid previously added the
mw-reference-text
class, Parsoid now also adds thereference-text
class for better compatibility with the legacy parser. More details are available. [5]
Problems
- There was a bug with the Content Translation interface that caused the tools menus to appear in the wrong location. This has now been fixed. [6]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 June. It will be on all wikis from 13 June (calendar). [7][8]
The new version of MediaWiki includes another change to the HTML markup used for citations: Parsoid will now generate a
<span class="mw-cite-backlink">
wrapper for both named and unnamed references for better compatibility with the legacy parser. Interface administrators should verify that gadgets that interact with citations are compatible with the new markup. More details are available. [9]- On multilingual wikis that use the
<translate>
system, there is a feature that shows potentially-outdated translations with a pink background until they are updated or confirmed. From this week, confirming translations will be logged, and there is a new user-right that can be required for confirming translations if the community requests it. [10]

Incorrect revert done by Vestrian24Bio[edit]
@Vestrian24Bio : About your revert ---> "Reverting edit(s) by IndoPakAfgh (talk) to rev. 1229017290 by Pkr206: Non-constructive edit (UV 0.1.5)". on https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template%3A2024_ICC_Men%27s_T20_World_Cup_Group_C&oldid=prev&diff=1229033107
How my edit was a "Non-constructive edit"?
as per /2024_ICC_Men%27s_T20_World_Cup#Super_8, Afghanistan has already qualified to Super 8, which means other three teams are eliminated.
Either you have been Non-constructive or Super 8 section is incorrect. IndoPakAfgh (talk) 14:48, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
- Q, E is placed only when the qualification isn't complete for the group with the table text saying "Advance to Super 8". But, now that the Qualification in Group C is over it's not needed anymore; instead the table text says: "Advanced to Super 8" stating that both
West Indies and
Afghanistan have qualified for Super 8 and there's no need for the Q, E text anymore. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 14:53, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah but Afghanistan is still listed as "Q", and the eliminated teams are listed as "E". Your revert makes it inconsistent @Vestrian24Bio.
- As the group stages are still ongoing, we should stick to consistency between the groups, and use Q/E everywhere. It's confusing to use them for some groups and skip them for others.
- Also, this should be discussed in the talk page not on user talk. Soni (talk) 16:34, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
- I agree this should be discussed in the talk page; I just continued what started by @IndoPakAfgh here. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 16:46, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
Unfounded justification for reverting edit[edit]
If you didn't like the edit, it doesn't mean it's not constructive. I just resized the poster image in ""Please Please Please"" which is unnecessarily large in the article. How can this be a non-constructive edit? Should have put "I prefer the large image" in the reason for reverting. Damitinha (talk) 07:10, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thumbnails aren't supposed to have a size limit per MOS, because thumb file display size is user preferred. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 07:12, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- See MOS:IMGSIZE Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 07:13, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- And why is doing something to improve the layout and visualization of the article a non-constructive edit? From what I saw here on your talk page you use the term "non-constructive editing" incorrectly Damitinha (talk) 07:14, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Read MOS:IMGSIZE Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 07:15, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- I may have been hasty, but at least justify correctly when reverting an edit, simply using "non-constructive edit" does not justify or explain anything. Damitinha (talk) 07:23, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'm sorry about that; I usually leave a talk page message after reverting, missed this time. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 07:31, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-25[edit]
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- People who attempt to add an external link in the visual editor will now receive immediate feedback if they attempt to link to a domain that a project has decided to block. Please see Edit check for more details. [11]
- The new Community Configuration extension is available on Test Wikipedia. This extension allows communities to customize specific features to meet their local needs. Currently only Growth features are configurable, but the extension will support other Community Configuration use cases in the future. [12][13]
- The dark mode beta feature is now available on category and help pages, as well as more special pages. There may be contrast issues. Please report bugs on the project talk page. [14]
Problems
Cloud Services tools were not available for 25 minutes last week. This was caused by a faulty hardware cable in the data center. [15]
- Last week, styling updates were made to the Vector 2022 skin. This caused unforeseen issues with templates, hatnotes, and images. Changes to templates and hatnotes were reverted. Most issues with images were fixed. If you still see any, report them here. [16]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 June. It will be on all wikis from 20 June (calendar). [17][18]
- Starting June 18, the Reference Edit Check will be deployed to a new set of Wikipedias. This feature is intended to help newcomers and to assist edit-patrollers by inviting people who are adding new content to a Wikipedia article to add a citation when they do not do so themselves. During a test at 11 wikis, the number of citations added more than doubled when Reference Check was shown to people. Reference Check is community configurable. [19]
- Mailing lists will be unavailable for roughly two hours on Tuesday 10:00–12:00 UTC. This is to enable migration to a new server and upgrade its software. [20]
