Some remarks[edit]

Dear Nabilah,

Thank you for preparing your article in the sandbox of en-wikipedia. I must say that it is a real good start. It surpasses my expectations. I saw the comments made by Ernst, and in general I think these remarks give you good points of departure to further enhance the quality of your text.

I was very happy to see that you used the Template:infobox book. This template does automatically generate italics in the title of your article.

  • Concerning the title of the article, I would suggest to choose simply "Statistics of the Colonies of the British Empire", like you did. And as the title will be automatically in italics, it will be clear that this is a book.
  • A small remark: I would suggest to put the complete title in a separate sentence, a few sentences more below. This makes the first sentence more easily readable. And you know…. the first sentence is what gives readers the first (and important) impression.
  • Perhaps you can add a few more links to other articles in your text, like Downing Street, Colonialism, West Indies, South America and so on.
  • Perhaps you can also think about a way to "embed" your article into the broader Wikipedia-context. So: could you make links from other pages to your page? For instance from Blue book, the page on Martin, on Allen&C, etc.
  • Concerning the image of the title page: where did you get it? Can you get a higher res image? Can you get more images (e.g. of the maps)?
  • Make a link to IA: https://archive.org/details/cihm_38226 (a very low quality scan btw). (perhaps in a footnote)
  • Concerning references:
  • Are you thinking about a section on the critical reception of the book?
  • Finally: please think about Wikipedia:Categorization of your article. That's really important to make it easy findable.

Many greetings, and good luck, --Dick Bos (talk) 09:45, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
