Politeness[edit]

As we are all volunteers you could consider prefacing your requests with "please" and/or add a "thanks" somewhere. That would be much appreciated! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:52, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Martin, thank you for your feedback. As a fellow volunteer, I understand the importance of politeness in our interactions. I apologize if my previous requests seemed abrupt or lacking in politeness. While I aimed for brevity, I will strive to strike a balance between conciseness and politeness in my future communications. I will ensure that my requests come across in a more polite and considerate manner. Nagsb (talk) 12:04, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for your reply — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:04, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop mass-altering categories[edit]

If there are widespread changes that you think need making, raise a relevant project discussion. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:32, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Iskandar323 OK, I will open a project discussion. Will you add then Category:Arabs to Category:Egyptian people, Category:Moroccan people and Category:Algerian people? Otherwise it is inconsistent even by your logic. Ot Tunisians and Libyans are more 'arabic' than other North African nations? Nagsb (talk) 19:46, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. No problem. I've added those categories there too. "Arab" is a particularly complex ethnolinguistic grouping that defines people based on shared language and culture as much as it does by other stereotypical elements of ethnicity. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:56, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For want of a parallel, it's a bit like the term "Latin" as a pan-South American grouping. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:57, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Allow me to intervene, this argument stopped me, (Palestinians is aticle about nationality, they are of mixed ethnic origin). How do you distinguish between race and ethnicity?. The Palestinians are not mixed culturally, linguistically, ancestrally or even as an identity. Palestinians are not like Americans who are made up of thousands of different ethnic backgrounds. Fnally, Please have enough information about the topic you are working on before making any changes. Sarah Schneuwly -Schneider (talk) 20:24, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Sarah Schneuwly -Schneider see Category:Ethnic groups in the State of Palestine. Not all Palestinians self-identify as Arabs. Nagsb (talk) 20:27, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, in terms of self-identification, I think this matter needs a census such as a religious census. Not just a word stemming from research or opinion. Sarah Schneuwly -Schneider (talk) 20:37, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Btw I found out the Category:Assyrian/Syriac Palestinians exists... Nagsb (talk) 20:41, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
are this category so strongly related to religion? Because half-christian Category:Lebanese people is not in Category:Arabs. Also small nations like Category:Kuwaiti people and Category:Djiboutian people (Djibouti is mainly composed of the Somali and the Afar, but Category:Somalian people is in Category:Arabs as well).. Nagsb (talk) 20:07, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To the above, per most definitions, Lebanese and Kuwaiti people would be included for sure (though there is certainly some resistance to the categorization among Lebanon's Christian minority, for long-standing reasons related to identity politics within the country). Somalis are not really Arabs linguistically or by any other conception of ethnicity. I've removed that. Iskandar323 (talk) 20:20, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
