Football

You expect sympathy from a Scotsman? Justin talk 22:55, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

But on the positive side, football hooligans won't be blackening the country's name. (Best I could come up with, it has been a crap year). Justin talk 23:32, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Amritsar massacre "consensus"

Thanks for the note on the Jallianwala Bagh RM. I had given up on getting any repsonse from admins on what "consensus" means for RMs but I'll try again here. Please comment if you can add to the discussion. — AjaxSmack 16:29, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

The Barnstar of Good Humor
For your link to cross-dressing daleks, which made me laugh --ROGER DAVIES talk 15:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I had never thought about daleks having gender. Nor had I considered the idea of daleks wearing clothes. Putting both of those together in the one phrase, with a twist, evokes wonderful images, and I had a good laugh too. Thank you. Pdfpdf (talk) 12:47, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

You're right I really don't know why they took the case on in the 1st place. Did you notice the comment from someone asking why the arbitrator was ignoring the fact that my sources said exactly what I did, whilst Alex's didn't. Justin talk 10:05, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Not as far as I can see, he hasn't been seen since we all ignored him. Last visit was October 4th. His history was strange he only popped up to push Argentine POV in Falklands related articles. Justin talk 19:21, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
For info, [1] he hasn't given up entirely. Mind you that editor hasn't been seen for a while either. Justin talk 23:12, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Buck Brannaman

Hi, I'll deal with this in the article, but the upshot is that while the article is a stub, the individual is significant, I'm not a huge fan of the Natural horsemanship movement, but I did get drafted to head up WikiProject Horse training, so I do my best to stay NPOV and try to cover all angles. And this particular fellow is one of the notable big names in the field. So I will see what I can do to add more material to the article and save it from deletion. Montanabw(talk) 05:17, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Note new edits. Hopefully that solved the notability problem. Fine line on stubs sometimes. No harm, no foul, and thanks for providing plenty of advance warning. Montanabw(talk) 16:52, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

I would appreciate your opinion on the question of the best name for this article. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 19:11, 19 December 2007 (UTC

Judging by the bad tempered comments on his talk page, I have a suspicion that User talk:Praetonia Praetonia might be about to indulge in a spot of edit warring.

I guess I'm getting thick skinned, "ignorant propagandist" just made me chuckle.

Do you detect a style similar to a recent contributor or am I just paranoid? Justin talk 22:57, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

I wondered how long that particular editor would wait before making a POV push. Does this violate terms of his probation following the arbcom? Justin talk 19:51, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
He had a permanent ban for a while, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/The Troubles I was amazed he was allowed back reading the background. Justin talk 20:25, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
I know what you mean, try being in a family where one half is Scots Catholic and the other half is, bizarrely, Ulster Scots. Throw in a Spanish mother and bake lightly in Glasgow. Justin talk 22:10, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Despite appeals, the killings were ruled lawful in a majority verdict. Just my opinion though.

Sovereignty Edits

They really messed the article up, I couldn't see any worthwhile changes to save. Justin talk 20:22, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Falkland Islands

I rather suspect by the "signature" of the changes you reverted that they were done by a banned user, a word of warning if its the same guy I reverted he can get very personal. Justin talk 14:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Judging by the comments on the talk page, it was the same user as I suspected. You pro-Argentine left-wing namby-pamby bed-wetting pinko commie subversive.  :-) Justin talk 23:39, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Romania

I asked on the 3RR discussion what the story is. As amazing as it may seem this whole thing started way off in the Military History Project when a Soviet wartime operation (in Russian) was renamed into Rumanian so no one would actually find it without having their keyboard mapped to Rumanian! I felt this was a bit much for English Wiki ;o) So I visited here to see what gives, and found this outrageous renaming of a country by online vote. In any case, thank you again. Cheers--mrg3105mrg3105 11:59, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

I am sorry for the ignorance this guy shows, but there was clearly no renaming of a country by online vote. It was a simple debate of how to spell the older terminology within the article, until mrg comes and transforms everything into a flame war, without being able to bring any references to support his point (i.e. personal research).Nergaal (talk) 12:12, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

I would like to remind you that the user mrg 3105 has deleted the tag you placed for speedy deletion in complete disregard of the instructions provided by the tag "do not remove this notice from pages that you have created yourself" this is an obvious abuse and appropiate users/admins should be alerted before more abuses and unconstructive edits are performed by user mrg3105. thank you. What - these guys? I make that what, three different articles all potentially referring to elements of the same thing? (I'll defer to your greater degree of eduction in these matters, I've only heard of Jomsvikings via Medieval Total War, which I doubt is a reliable source! 4u1e (talk) 09:34, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll be interested to see what the article looks like when you've had a go at it. I've got no background in any of this stuff, but I find it all rather interesting. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 16:57, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Aed

Narson, just FYI, "Aed Albanach" is a 10th century dude whose obit appears in the Irish annals as an associate of the Dublin Vikings. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 23:22, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I looked that name up on Google books, and all three entries referred to that guy. Anderson's Early Scottish Sources which does say it means "of Scotland" is referring to the Dublin guy too; Albanach really means "Scottish" or "Scotsman", rather than "of Scotland" (n-Alban). Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 23:45, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Falklands War

I'm pretty sure that the edit was done by an editor with an indefinite block, I can't be sure but if it is him we might need to get the article protected as he is going to be back. Might be an idea to keep an eye on it. Justin talk 23:39, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

An awful lot of documents have been released in the last year. A whole flurry of Freedom of Information requests have been made and granted. I've used some of them in articles, for example the commission of enquiry into the loss of the Sheffield was very useful. The Sheffield stuff was originally under a 100 year closure order, ridiculous really when you look at it. Justin talk 00:04, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

UNINDENT

Narson, there is an Argentine editor pushing POV edits into a lot of articles. Can you keep an eye on them as well? Justin talk 21:03, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

My first instinct was to revert when I saw the wholesale changes. I didn't because in the main it appeared to improve the readability of the article. Its a difficult one to call but if you're unhappy with the errors and there is too many to correct then I'd say revert. I can put my changes back in later - I did a bit of research and found that Britain accepted the Peru proposal and offered a cease fire right up to June 1. So the part of the article saying the UK rejected Belaunde's plan is incorrect. Justin talk 14:15, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Events Leading to the Falklands War. I see you reverted changes to this article from an IP editor. Its a persistent low level of vandalism seeking to impose a revisionist version of the Dirty War, where all the victims were leftist terrorists. He is trying to do it an all articles mentioning it. Worth keeping an eye on, the guys has a clear POV agenda. Not wishing to generalise but judging from the edit summary not someone looking to achieve a compromise consensus. Cheers mate, missed that one. The edits were revisionist and attempting to justify the dirty war. Justin talk 00:40, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Possibly could do with being toned down in some respects, revisionism is a different matter. I might get round down to doing that, just out of interest do you get Argentine hate mail? Justin talk 00:47, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Ah well I have some nutter calling himself Condor who is accusing me of revisionism on Wikipedia because I edited the History of the Falkland Islands. Its got to be quite amusing as when I point him to sources contradicting his claims he gets quite apoplectic. Gets worse when I reply in my poor Spanish. Justin talk 01:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Double cheers mate. Looking at his contribution history, its all been revisionist trying to justify the dirty war. This is a serious POV editor. According to his edits most of the victims of the Dirty War deserved what they got. I'll keep an eye on what he is up to. Justin talk 01:15, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Wife and kids are fine, it was just a weekend thing. I had to stay up and clean up after the kids (3 & 5). I see the voting has opened, I'll drop by later and make my mark. Justin talk 09:31, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Only 41, but you can still be a cantankerous old git at that age. I don't tend to employ diplomatic skills with idiots, which probably explains my short career as an infantryman. Justin talk 11:47, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Good on you, Uni was some of the best years of my life - till I had kids anyway. Justin talk 09:47, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Coincidence

Honest, it's all just a coincidence! I've learnt to be suspicious of all edits to that article though (along with Messrs Mosley, Schumacher and Alonso. Ecclestone, strangely, doesn't get so much grief. Except over whether his wife is Croatian or Serbian <rolls eyes>). How're the thingammyjigs coming? 4u1e (talk) 12:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your support

Narson/Archive 2: I wish to thank you for your support in my unsuccessful bid at becoming an Assistant Coordinator for the Military history WikiProject. Rest assured that I will still be around, probably even more than before, and I have the utmost confidence in the abilities of the current and new coordinators. I might also mention that I am already planning on running again in August. As always, if you need anything, just get in touch.

Also, don't feel bad about not succeeding in your bid either. Just keep editing and building up a presence in the project and your day will come. -MBK004 21:24, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

The Massacre of Your Pride?

Interesting and surprising. This British reaction to my simple edit to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre is surprisng. I guess this massacre thing is really touching a nerve among you the Brits and Brit lovers. Suddenly all you guys are so into detail. Deep down in your hearts you must feel guilt. Not one Indian is objecting. No worries. I will reword it so it will be still there. I am clever enough to find a way through all the rules and get it in there somehow, now that you have challenged me. Just give me time. In the meantime, if you feel that guilty deep down, buy lunch for an Indian as an act of kindness. Cheers mate. History2007 (talk) 08:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

No probs, its on my watch list. I went looking for some information for my eldest daughter (her mother is a Sikh but we separated a long time ago) and found the page moved. I don't understand how an admin can ignore an obvious consensus the way he did. Justin talk 11:22, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Falklands War

The thing is if you drop freefall bombs (unretarded) on a ship from low level, you'll kill yourself as well as you'll be directly overhead when the bombs hit. Thats why bombs have retarding tails. Justin talk 09:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh I knew what you meant. It was more of a comment on the original article, if the Argentine air force had done that they'd have not lasted beyond the first day, much like the People's Front of Judea (Suicide Division). Justin talk 15:46, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't keep that close an eye on VK, I just happened on the arbcom case when I checked him out last time he appeared on the FI article. I guess he is still writing under another name.

What do you want to know (provided its in the public domain)? Justin talk 20:46, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Had a quick look, two things sprang out. a) the guy causing most of the problems is talking from a position based on dogma, you won't shift him. b) he is also incredibly ignorant and knows absolutely nothing about the system but wouldn't be inclined to accept the truth anyway. I would suggest an RFC. Justin talk 22:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
To be honest I don't think I should get too involved in the debate. However, if you were to look into the system you will find that BAE Systems builds the subs but has nothing whatsoever to do with the delivery system. Justin talk 22:47, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Invasions of 1833 and 1982

The British invasion of 1833 is esentially the same things as the Argentine invasion of 1982, therefore both articles should have a similar title and not the current ones thats calls the Argentines for "invasors" and legitimates the British occupation calling it re-assertion. In my opinion both articles should be caller Bristish/Argentine occupation of the Falklands Islands. Dentren | Talk 14:51, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
