ENG 465 Check-In[edit]

Hi Naudika,

This is Sam, the TA from ENG 465! Prof. Hanley asked me to help get in touch with everyone this weekend to make sure the Wiki assignments are moving along smoothly.

I see you've been keeping up with the training modules and the exercises for the most part, which is awesome! Do you have any questions or need help with anything?

I also saw that you are interested in MS Fnd in a Lbry for your assigned topic, and I think it's a possibility! You might want to contact Prof. Hanley as soon as possible, just to make sure. The key will be to find quality sources to use in improving the article, and then collecting those in your Bibliography page and the Talk Page for the article. Putting your in-progress bibliography into the Talk Page for other Wikipedia users to look over can be a great way to get helpful suggestions!

Actually, I was wondering if you had any advice on how to find articles. I had this choice open as an option because it seemed like something that could be added on, but on the web it was hard to find anything academic.

Hi Naudika,

Sorry for the slow reply! So my advice would be to start with either this Category Page of Post-apocalyptic literature articles on Wikipedia or this Category Page of Post-apocalyptic film articles. Maybe not everything in those lists will be "sci-fi," but there should be a lot of options to dig through!

If you're more interested in editing an article on a television show, anime or manga series, or a video game, this is a broader list of Post-apocalyptic fiction... but I think sticking with literature or films would make it easier for Prof. Hanley, the Wiki Ed staff, or I to help you where needed.

Also, I would recommend looking at the Talk Pages for the articles you're interested in and seeing what "quality" they're rated at... a FA (Featured Article), GA (Good Article), or A-class article might already be a little too well-developed to make good edits, at least not without a ton of work on your part. On the other hand, a Stub-class article might be too undeveloped/not have enough of an existing framework for you to make good edits without a lot of work there too. The sweet spot is probably going to be a Start-class or C-class (or maybe a B-class article, but those tend to be pretty well-developed too), because they're sort of in the middle.

And you can assign yourself the article you want on the Wiki Edu course website! But you can also contact Prof. Hanley pretty much any way you want to confirm your topic. Email, his Wikipedia Talk Page, whatever works best for you.

Links to user pages and sandboxes[edit]

Please do not introduce links in actual articles to user pages or sandboxes, as you did at The Bed Sitting Room (film). Since these pages have not been accepted as articles, user pages, sandboxes and drafts are not suitable for linking in articles. and such links are contrary to the Manual of Style.
