It's muggy here, pal...[edit]

...and I'm sick as a dog. (That's not New Orleans's fault.) I'll be here until Saturday and will drop you a line later. It sucks--I'm in one of the greatest cities in the US and all I want to do is crawl in bed. BTW, we're at the Marriott on Canal. Drmies (talk) 14:53, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's full-blown flu. I manage to get to NO on the company dime, and I'm sick. BTW, that's a pretty exciting city you live in. They tell me. Drmies (talk) 15:12, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • So sorry. Hope you're better soon, and maybe we'll get together next time. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:57, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question on Speedy Deletion of Directions on Microsoft Article[edit]

I was looking for the article for "Directions on Microsoft" and noticed it was speedily deleted due to "A7. No indication of importance". DOM was referenced by several publications (Wall Street Journal & NYT for example) as a source and cited as a source in several Wikipedia articles. Can you help me understand why that isn't enough to be considered notable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Phaeton69 (talkcontribs) 00:21, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The articles in question weren't actually about Directions on Microsoft. They just happened to each quote a representative of DoM, offering an opinion about Microsoft. That doesn't count as a reliable source showing the notability of DoM. NawlinWiki (talk) 03:27, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I dont understand - we redid the page Trophy Wife (US band) according to another head editor's guidelines and suggested. Could you please let me know why you might still be deleting it? Katyotto (talk) 18:31, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Have i done the right thing...[edit]

..Well what i did was this, i was being stupid and i decided to just copy and paste from another webstite; then i got a email saying that i had possibly violated copyright so i deleted everything on that page, the one i had edited, and i am wondering if deleting everything on that page was the right thing to do?? PLEASE HELP — Preceding unsigned comment added by Decoy Jr (talkcontribs) 21:07, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, you could always start over by writing the page in your own words. In this case, though, I don't think a separate page about this character is helpful - especially since the page doesn't explain what book/movie this is a character from. I would consider improving the character descriptions in the page on the main book/movie. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 21:24, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with page deleted...[edit]

I wanted to see why the page I created for Skin Industries was deleted. Says was because of Unambiguous advertising or promotion. I don't understand why it was deleted since it wasn't any form of advertising but just of a company biography. If you could please let me know what I need to do to make it work that would be great. Thanks Seanmrivers (talk) 17:45, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • It was indeed advertising - the article was full of language like "continues to take “Sports Fashion” to new heights". Please look at WP:NPOV and WP:SPAM. NawlinWiki (talk) 18:12, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to see why the page Gay-ville was deleted twice. It is an existing company that has been written about in several media outlets (print and digital). I did not see how the original text that was entered was promoting or advertising anything. When I edited the text a second time, it was promptly removed again. 17:25, 9 March 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alangenf (talkcontribs)

Professor Bell article[edit]

You made a ref change to a "more neutral" one. Huffington post is hardly neutral, no doubt you know that? FYI, Breitbart actually help start Huffington, and left because they lost their neutrality. Are you going to replace the ref, or should I. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 02:44, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The White Stripes: Live In Mississippi[edit]

Hey, I'm asking for the information originally used in the wiki page for the White Stripes' "Live in Mississippi" album. I will revise it and will work hard to produce the page properly. If you can do that, then thanks. -Chris — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pierce97x (talkcontribs) 18:21, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • As far as I can tell, there has never been an article created on this album. If you can give me an exact page title for a deleted page, I will check again. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 19:55, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the link to the page: Live In Mississippi comment added by Pierce97x —Preceding undated comment added 16:31, 9 March 2012 (UTC).[reply]

    • Ah, thanks. The entire content of the deleted article was "Is a 2111 Live Album written by white stripes". May as well start fresh. NawlinWiki (talk) 16:52, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Triage newsletter[edit]

Hey guys!

Thanks to all of you who have commented on the New Page Triage talkpage. If you haven't had a chance yet, check it out; we're discussing some pretty interesting ideas, both from the Foundation and the community, and moving towards implementing quite a few of them :).

In addition, on Tuesday 13th March, we're holding an office hours session in #wikimedia-office on IRC at 19:00 UTC (11am Pacific time). If you can make it, please do; we'll have a lot of stuff to show you and talk about, including (hopefully) a timetable of when we're planning to do what. If you can't come, for whatever reason, let me know on my talkpage and I'm happy to send you the logs so you can get an idea of what happened :). Regards, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:46, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About Zero Balancing[edit]

Hi NawlinWiki, can you compare the deleted Zero Balancing with this request? I was looking at this request and i notice that the article was deleting and you were the deleting admin, so I was wonder if you could see if this would still be deleted per G11. Thanks--Breawycker (talk to me!) 03:03, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • This one looks a lot more neutral than the one I deleted in 2007, and has multiple sources. The 2007 one was basically a PR brochure. I have no objection to this article being created in the form that it's in now. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 15:28, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Feather[edit]

Hi NawlinWiki: Last month, you protected feather for a couple of weeks due to persistent vandalism. The protection expired on March 2, and we've been having running battles with the vandals ever since. Any chance you can protect it again? MeegsC | Talk 20:03, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • As far as I can tell, the long-term abuser that targeted that article has only hit it once since the protection expired. The vandalism today looks unrelated. I will keep watching with an eye toward reprotecting. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 20:20, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Falzon[edit]

Hi, it seems you have deleted a page that I have been working on Mark Falzon. The last draft of the page was deleted before I could copy it for editing. Can you please advise where I can get this page back. Also, who could help me get the structure right for this page so that it wont be deleted once finalized. New Page Triage newsletter[edit]

Hey all!

Thanks to everyone who attended our first office hours session; the logs can be found here, if you missed it, and we should be holding a second one on Thursday, 22 March 2012 at 18:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office. I hope to see you all there :).

In the meantime, I have greatly expanded the details available at Wikipedia:New Page Triage: there's a lot more info about precisely what we're planning. If you have ideas, and they aren't listed there, bring them up and I'll pass them on to the developers for consideration in the second sprint. And if you know anyone who might be interested in contributing, send them there too!

EXTENSION[edit]

I was in the process of updating and making our page more significant, but you deleted it. Is there any way you can send me the changes I had made right before you had deleted. I had added quite a few sources. There was no way you could have read through my new article I was in the process of creating. I was not even finished with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Khostetler (talkcontribs) 16:10, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Recent deletion of PRODded Worthful[edit]

Hey, NawlinWiki, I saw that you deleted the Worthful page I had tagged. Thanks for that, by the way; it was pretty obvious that it was gonna go one way or another. As for the metaphysics of it, do you think PROD is the right way to go, or should I just do a custom DB for something that obvious? And would A5 have applied there, even though that specific article hadn't been transwikied? Thanks! Writ Keeper 18:12, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Exodus[edit]

Why did you userfy the communal draft? It is a long held position that people can draft like that on a subpage when the article is locks. cheers --Guerillero | My Talk 20:22, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Deletion of Smitharianism[edit]

Would you please enlighten me as to why my article was deleted only minutes after its publication, under "blatant hoax"? The article was in its very early stages and was in no state to be fully appreciated. The article pertains to the basic outline of the Church of Smith and its growing number of followers. If you are to write off "Smitharianism" as "blatant hoax" then I expect you shall be doing the same for Christianity or Islam? Yes? I expect a reply. With haste. Kind Regards Archbishop of Essex RevCiaran (talk) 21:32, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As Quark is asking editors to edit this and it is being worked on, shouldn't it be a subpage of the article talk page? And if editors ever agreed on it, I presume you (or someone better at this than me) can merge the history of the original and this version? Dougweller (talk) 09:12, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, the draft itself has a talk page, so I don't know what would happen if I made the main page a talk subpage. I'm just going to reverse my own move. And yes, the histories can eventually be merged if appropriate. NawlinWiki (talk) 10:27, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, NawlinWiki: I see you're the latest admin in at this hoax article. Since I'm not an admin, I can't follow everything, but we had noted this issue in a discussion of several hoax articles going on at WT:MED in neurosurgery articles, related to someone creating African journal articles. Enoh's point is another, and Ali A.Tehrani is clear: I haven't yet put a db-hoax on it, because then I won't be able to see the content in the event an SPI is needed. I'm skiing, so not keeping up, off to the slopes for the day, but I don't know if we need an SPI, or if we just need an admin to get on all of those? I've been patrolling new medicine articles lately, and I'm worried that something is up tying all of these together, but don't have conclusive evidence. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:05, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hi NawlinWiki, just to say thanks for getting that anon IP off my back and for tidying my Talk page. Is there a way or dealing with a Sockpuppet who uses a range of IP addresses as this guy appears to have a history of flitting onto a new address each time he is blocked? Tmol42 (talk) 11:17, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, rangeblocks are possible. I will keep an eye on your pages. NawlinWiki (talk) 12:02, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CharlesAccivatti (talk) 19:09, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Charles[reply]

  • You need to write the article in a neutral tone, without advertising/promotional language such as "extraordinary young chef" and "Her food art is like beauty, it simply feeds the soul, that's all.". See WP:SPAM and WP:NPOV. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:11, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article Thornleigh Salesian College doesn't need move protection[edit]

Hello NawlinWiki, thanks for protecting article Thornleigh Salesian College from IP address and new user accounts disruption and vandalism. However i noted that you had also made the page move protected only to sysop. As we can see from the move log of the page, there hasn't been any move disputes ever in the past and so this page move protection is not needed and needs to be removed as any kind of protection is put up if there is any sufficient reason to do it. Thank you. TheGeneralUser (talk) 20:34, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's fine. I tend to add move protection when it is apparent that an article is unlikely to need renaming, but I will remove it per your request. NawlinWiki (talk) 21:22, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NawlinWiki: Before the Revolutionary War, the American Colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence and sent it to the tyrant King George III. I guess, when our government goes too far in regulating my life, I could try that as a last resort but that will only bring the "Jack Booted Thugs" to my door to arrest me. This country has DEvolved from a Constitutional Republic into a Democratic Dictatorship. Electing people with dictatorial power is little better than them assuming power through pointing guns at us. I wonder how many soldiers will have the courage to fight back when the economy collapses, the President declares martial law, and suspends all of our rights? Not very many I'll venture. Most of them will probably say "We're just following orders!" like the ones who put the Jewish people in the gas chambers proclaimed. - WRMattison — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wrmattison (talkcontribs) 01:44, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Eric Hovde[edit]

Hi, you just speedy deleted my article on Eric Hovde, an investment banker running for the US Senate. He has just recently entered the Republican primary race but has already spent a ton of money and is flooding Milwaukee radio with ads. Considering he's getting attention from the other Republican (and Democratic) candidates and spending a ton of ads, he may be considered a front runner for the race. And I'm not a supporter of his, so this isn't some Astroturfing attempt to generate buzz for the man. Here's some articles from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (largest newspaper in Wisconsin) talking about his sudden rise and marketing blitz.

[1] [2] [3]

As for his private business, his website claims he's been interviewed by CNBC and the WSJ, but I don't know if that's notable enough for Wiki. I really think that considering he's a budding political candidate and he's spending a ton of money in the GOP primary that makes him notable enough to be included. - CaptainAmerica (talk) 02:54, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just being a candidate for a party nomination isn't enough to make one notable per WP:BIO. In the articles cited above, one just says he's a candidate, and one says he "debuted two radio ads", which is not exactly a "marketing blitz". I think we need to see more coverage in reliable sources. If he wins the nomination, of course, that's another story. NawlinWiki (talk) 03:24, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

help triage some feedback[edit]

Hey guys.

I appreciate this isn't quite what you signed up for, but I figured as people who are already pretty good at evaluating whether material is useful or not useful through Special:NewPages, you might be interested :). Over the last few months we've been developing the new Article Feedback Tool, which features a free text box. it is imperative that we work out in advance what proportion of feedback is useful or not so we can adjust the design accordingly and not overwhelm you with nonsense.

This is being done through the Feedback Evaluation System (FES), a tool that lets editors run through a stream of comments, selecting their value and viability, so we know what type of design should be promoted or avoided. We're about to start a new round of evaluations, beginning with an office hours session tomorrow at 18:00 UTC. If you'd like to help preemptively kill poor feedback, come along to #wikimedia-office and we'll show you how to use the tool. If you can't make it, send me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org or drop a note on my talkpage, and I'm happy to give you a quick walkthrough in a one-on-one session :).

All the best, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:31, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am confused as to why my page got deleted. There are plenty of Historic Hotels already on your website, what makes their page different from ours? I have done plenty of research and provided references as to where to find some of our information. Please tell me what I can do in order to get my page posted. - Meekerhotel — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meekerhotel (talkcontribs) Meekerhotel (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

  • The article was written in promotional language, which is not permitted. See WP:SPAM and WP:NPOV. Also, your username and your reference to "our hotel" means that you should not be the one to write this article, see WP:COI. NawlinWiki (talk) 12:10, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
