Orphaned non-free image (Image:Campbellseal.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Campbellseal.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:15, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NC Templates

[edit]

Thanks for making templates for Forsyth and Surry Counties. I don't know if you have made others. I should find out soon. I changed the map on Forsyth and will change the others. I have been working on NC county templates for about a month now and am almost done. They all basically look the same, I have excluded the townships so far. NC Townships don't seem to have much importance, politically, since they can just be taken over by the nearby cities, but I don't have a problem witht the counties being on the templates and certainly won't make any changes. You can find the colorized map I have been using at Raven Rock State Park. It's just a locator map that I have saved on my computer and have been uploading to the commons as I have been creating the county maps. Dincher 19:11, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't realized that the Surry template was that old. I just didnt' look. I started with Robeson County and it has taken off from there. Including your contributions we are now up to 69 of 100 templates! I usually do between 3 and 5 a day. A note on the townships. In some counties they don't even have names, just numbers! Dincher 20:44, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding the townships to Alleghany County. Maybe you'll catch a wikifire and add the townships to the rest of the counties, maybe something like 94 to go. Coincindentally I was in a subdivision today that had streets named for the NC counties which is a nice touch, it's good to see that the NC geography is being recognized. Funnily Allegheny St. was misspelled. There is an Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, an Allegany County, New York to with our Alleghany County, North Carolina. Perhaps this was just a simple mistake or maybe some smart aleck from Western PA simply who's been relocated to the hot and humid south. I know that I would've done it if I had had the chance. Dincher 03:18, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well you never know what is going to happen with the NC townships. Like anything else on Wikipedia it could start small and get really really big. I started with Ravensburg State Park about a year ago and things kind of got out of hand from there. Have a good one. Dincher 03:59, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ForsythCountyNC--AbbottsCreekTwp.PNG. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:ForsythCountyNC--AbbotsCreekTwp.PNG. The copy called Image:ForsythCountyNC--AbbotsCreekTwp.PNG has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 14:15, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

[edit]

While I doubt that it was your intention, thanks for alerting me to the presence of the ACC field hockey venue template, which is a case of navbox excess in its purest form. And apologies for not checking when you created your template - had I realized, I'd have almost certainly waited at least a month or so to do anything. As it stands though, even with my move to delete it, I'd be surprised if it did actually go away because of its short lifespan. --fuzzy510 05:37, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:HarnettCountyNC--AverasboroTwp.PNG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HarnettCountyNC--AverasboroTwp.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:08, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Wikimania in Atlanta!

[edit]

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 22:52, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of radio stations in North Carolina by call letters

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article List of radio stations in North Carolina by call letters, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Rtphokie 13:36, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of WETC

[edit]

A tag has been placed on WETC, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD A7.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Voxpuppet (talkcontribs) 01:23, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user has been tagging tons of NC radio stations for speedy deletion. I've added hangon tags to all of them.--Rtphokie 01:48, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Elkin Tribune front page.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Elkin Tribune front page.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Cape Lookout Lighthouse

Hello WikiProject North Carolina members! A few of us at the The Newsroom Team decided to get together and re-energize the project, through these newsletters. This newsletter is hopefully the first of many to come. We want this project to be active in creating and expanding articles related to our state. If you're a current or former resident of the state, we hope that you will help spread the knowledge of how much there is to learn about North Carolina.

  • A great way to expand new articles is by keeping track of the new articles list. Please add any new NC-related articles or older ones you come across that have not been tagged with the project banner. When you notice an article has been added to the list, read over it and check for citations, grammatical errors, and spelling. If you've written a NC-related article in the past 5 days, read the requirements for Did you know... and add your article to the DYK nomination list. It might be chosen for the Main Page!
  • If you see a new member added to the project list, a great idea would be to leave them a welcome message on their talk page. Show them we notice new members and that we want them to become active participants.
  • If you have any questions in regards to the project, feel free to contact someone from The Newsroom Team. Thanks for all of your hard work and happy editing!

Fair use rationale for File:Fayetteville Observer front page.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Fayetteville Observer front page.png. The article The Pilot (Pilot Mountain, North Carolina) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't appear to meet the notability guideline for organisations or the general notability guideline

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 21:06, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
