Welcome

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page. To stay in Wikipedia, an article has to be about something notable, that is, of general interest. Click on Notability for an explanation of what that means, and on Notability (organizations and companies) for more detail. Also, it must give independently verifiable sources. Articles that don't meet these requirements are likely to be deleted.

Please have a look at the bluelinks provided with the welcome above; notability is meant in a wikipedia-way here; also, you seem to have a conflict of interest regarding the subject. Cheers. Lectonar (talk) 14:14, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

sorry- i don't know the wiki lingo as of yet- we are a nonprofit ballet company- same as Gwinnett ballet theatre- they have an article on your site- please explain

It would really help if you read the links provided, we did tht for a reason, you know; anyway, the subject of the page you mentioned is notable because they are "...the first and oldest..." in their kind; alos, the article was not created by the company herself. Also, the argument you are using here is WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Please keep also in mind that this an encyclopedia, not a vehicle for advertising. Lectonar (talk) 14:29, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, as you did at Northeast atlanta ballet. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. Tckma (talk) 14:30, 17 February 2009 (UTC) -I suppose if given a chance to complete our article before it was deleted you would realize the notability of our group- i realize that this is not an advertising vehicle- we are supported within our community and state- we are the only group in Gwinnett County to offer live orchestration with all of our classical productions- we are the only group to offer underserved and disadvantaged students free programming - more than 3000 students per year, Neaballet (talk) 14:35, 17 February 2009 (UTC)marsha[reply]

Conflict of Interest

[edit]

On the article talk page you asked "not clear with what you mean by co interest- I am on the Board of Directors- who else should be writing this". The answer is that Wikipedia articles must be written from a neutral point of view, and so people are strongly discouraged from writing about themselves or their own organizations, because of the conflict of interest involved. If your organisation is really notable, someone independent of you will be interested enough to write an article. For more advice, read carefully the FAQ/Organization, in particular the sections headed:
