Speedy deletion of Mighty leaf tea[edit]

A tag has been placed on Mighty leaf tea requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. SchmuckyTheCat (talk) 23:42, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The above message is like form mail. I didn't actually write it.
Regardless, I answered your question on my talk page. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)

Hello Stifle,

We see you deleted Mighty_leaf_tea without response to my talk comment. Can you provide guidance/feedback on how we can meet whatever standards you regard as lacking? Our comments were not addressed and appeared sound reasoning.

Thank you.

While I'm happy to answer questions, it looks like your question could have been answered and resolved more quickly if you had used my message wizard. It's linked as "Talk" after my name and at the top of my talk page. Why not try it next time?
Mighty leaf tea was deleted under criterion 7 (under Articles) of our criteria for speedy deletion because it appeared to be an article about a company which didn't indicate why it was important or significant. Please see WP:CORP for details of what might show notability. If you think that these criteria are met, please explain which one and provide citations from reliable sources to back up your claim, and I will consider undeleting it.
You may alternatively file a deletion review request. Stifle (talk) 09:17, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mighty Leaf Tea[edit]

Hello Stifle,

Thank you for responding to my inquiry yesterday regarding recent quick deletion of Mighty_leaf_tea

If I understand, the objection was based on A7 - - artilcle about a company doesn't indicate importance or significance.

Our reading of this article suggests that it meets this standard - but I am having the company re-write the article to make this more clear - in terms of notability, the article referenced a New York Times article, verifying that Mighty Leaf Tea is a major US provider of specialty teas, and an innovator in the tea bag segment of the market.

Futher, if you compare this to the articles on other US tea companies: List of tea companies It would appear that this article as originally posted is consistent with these - if the Mighty Leaf Tea article were to be deleted, then it would seem many/all of these related articles would fairly be in the same boat.

Regardless, I have asked the company to add to the article indicating historical significance of the company to the US tea market, innovations, and additional 2nd party references - these should be available later in the week.

Can I repost at that time?

Thank you,

The NY Times page contained only two tangential mentions of the company. I can't stop you from reposting the page but you should make sure to put in citations that not only mention the company, but explain what makes it notable. See WP:CORP for a list of ways a company might be notable. Stifle (talk) 15:53, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ned, if you think many of the other companies in List of Tea Companies don't meet the notability requirement, feel free to suggest them for deletion. This explains why, and how, things are deleted: Wikipedia:Deletion policy. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Mighty-Leaf-Tea-logo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mighty-Leaf-Tea-logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 09:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mighty Leaf Tea[edit]

The article Mighty Leaf Tea has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Locally known and thinly notable so perhaps not enough for better improvement and notability, searches found several links especially News and some at browser so WP:TNT at best until a better article is available.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
