Edits on Tennys Sandgren Twitter Controversy

You're a more experienced Wikipedia editor than I. Can you explain why you removed all of the sources linking to Twitter? (Link to diff) Given the nature of the controversy, it seems those are legitimate sources, and it appears that Wikipedia preserves the Tweet text in citations for the case that tweets would be deleted. For example, the fact that Sandgren apologized for at least one of the tweets (by posting another tweet) seems to be a critical piece of information in this scenario.

December 2018 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors December 2018 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the December 2018 GOCE newsletter. Here is what's been happening since the August edition. Thanks to everyone who participated in the August blitz (results), which focused on Requests and the oldest backlog month. Of the twenty editors who signed up, eleven editors recorded 37 copy edits. For the September drive (results), of the twenty-three people who signed up, nineteen editors completed 294 copy edits. Our October blitz (results) focused on Requests, geography, and food and drink articles. Of the fourteen people who signed up, eleven recorded a total of 57 copy edits. For the November drive (results), twenty-two people signed up, and eighteen editors recorded 273 copy edits. This helped to bring the backlog to a six-month low of 825 articles. The December blitz will run for one week, from 16 to 22 December. Sign up now! Elections: Nominations for the Guild's coordinators for the first half of 2019 will be open from 1 to 15 December. List of people from Jersey

List of people from Jersey somehow attracts a peculiar vandalism where IP editors add inappropriate names to the list. Thank you for your correction. Can we agree that people on lists just like this one should not be eliminated just because they do not have an article yet, especially if they have been on the list for several years, and even more so if there is a valid inline reference? I work on lists like this one, and I am cautious about your statement about not having an article as a reason for deletion. Reply right here, please.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 18:01, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Dthomsen8 (talk · contribs). I was just going by the criteria for inclusion which are stated at the top of the article. Most list articles have these, and in this case it says "This is a list of notable people who were born in the Channel Island of Jersey, or have been resident there", and "All those listed should have an article dedicated to them". So in the case of this list, the consensus is that people should be included only if they have a dedicated article. This is common for this type of list as without it, every person from Jersey who's ever existed could legitimately be added, which would be impractical as the article would become unmanageably long. Wikipedia isn't a catalogue of residents, it's an encyclopaedia. If there are existing entries which don't conform to the criteria, I'm certainly not going to go through and remove them. However it's always possible that some other editor will do so at some point. Neiltonks (talk) 09:21, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

I think that you "accepted" this wretched pair of edits (adding an intermittently comprehensible screed that I suspect is an attempted autohagiography). Perhaps I misunderstand and you didn't. @Hoary: You're right, I didn't intend to accept that load of rubbish! I remember it well, and certainly intended to reject the edit. Whether I had a 'senior moment' and consciously clicked the 'accept' button on the Pending Changes screen instead, or whether I did it accidentally and never noticed not getting the confirmation message which accompanies a rejected edit, I'll never know. Thank you for taking the reversion so amicably. Those particular edits aside, the page Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biography/By profession continues to puzzle me. What's it for, really? I suspect that it primarily serves to dissuade some people from writing articles about themselves and members of their family, giving them the illusion that somebody without a COI will do so instead. But I haven't heard of any experienced and competent editor looking through either that page or Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biography/By nationality and being prompted by a request there to create an article. A pity, really: On occasion, I've been mildly fascinated by the very little I've known about somebody, presumed that others hereabouts would know a lot more about that person than I did, and wished that one or more of these editors would write an article, if only to satisfy my curiosity. But I doubt that anyone qualified would see my request, surrounded as it would be by hundreds of desperate if often unconvincing pleas for encyclopedia-worthiness. -- Hoary (talk) 00:02, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

March GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2019 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2018. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2019, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work in January's Backlog Elimination Drive. We removed copyedit tags from all of the articles tagged in our original target months of June, July and August 2018, and by 24 January we ran out of articles. After adding September, we finished the month with 8 target articles remaining and 842 left in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 48 requests for copyedit in January. Of the 31 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the February Blitz. Of the 15 people who signed up, 13 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed 32 copyedits, including 15 requests. Progress report: As of 23:39, 18 March 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 108 requests since 1 January and the backlog stands at 851 articles. Trying to understand removal of content

Hi Neiltonks, Thank you for the welcome. I'm new here, as you note, and included mention of a book about movie production, Below the Line: Anatomy of a Successful Movie. It seemed safe since I'm so new. The book is by a journalist who was inside for the making of the movie Last Vegas. Last Vegas has a wikipedia page, so it seemed a worthy mention. The five actors who starred in the book have pages, as does the director, and it would seem fans would like to know that, too. I posted on the director's page that he was at the center of said book. And it was struck out. If a dynamic encyclopedia has a topic with a page, and that topic becomes the subject of a book, is that not a worthy thing to mention? It was stripped out by one person, who then asked another to explain it as a copyright violation because he was busy and couldn't remember how to cite a copyright violation. Is a book summary a copyright violation? (I have reached out to them with a similar question so really just trying to get an understanding.) I have noted that the book itself doesn't have a page, so maybe that's an issue? I'm hoping to get insight from you, as well. Thank you. I am new here and want to understand how it works. Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 16 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. June Blitz: Our June blitz will soon be upon us; it will begin at 00:01 on 16 June (UTC) and will close at 23:59 on 22 June (UTC). The themes are "nature and the environment" and all requests. March Drive: Thanks to everyone for their work in March's Backlog Elimination Drive. We removed copyedit tags from 182 of the articles tagged in our original target months October and November 2018, and the month finished with 64 target articles remaining from November and 811 in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 22 requests for copyedit in March; the month ended with 34 requests pending. Of the 32 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. April Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the April Blitz; the blitz ran from 14 to 20 April (UTC) inclusive and the themes were Sports and Entertainment. Progress report: As of 04:36, 3 June 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 267 requests since 1 January. The backlog of tagged articles stands at 605 articles. May Drive: During the May Backlog Elimination Drive, Guild copy-editors removed copyedit tags from 191 of the 192 articles tagged in our original target months of November and December 2018, and January 2019 was added on 22 May. We finished the month with 81 target articles remaining and a record low of 598 articles in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 24 requests for copyedit during the May drive, and the month ended with 35 requests pending. Charlize Theron has 1 Daughter and 1 Son

Saying Jackson is Transgender is like saying that I’m Invisible! I’m not, and just because Jackson said that he was a girl, doesn’t mean that he’s actually transgender. He was probably trying to be funny. The kid doesn’t have the ability to say that he’s transgender until he has hit “Puberty”. We need actual evidence to prove that he identifies as Female, otherwise Charlize Theron is a Lair.

September 2019 GOCE Newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors September 2019 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the September newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2019. June election: Reidgreg was chosen as lead coordinator, and is being assisted by Baffle gab1978, Miniapolis, Tdslk, and first-time coordinator Twofingered Typist. Jonesey95 took a respite after serving for six years. Thanks to everyone who participated! June Blitz: From 16 to 22 June, we copy edited articles on the themes of nature and the environment along with requests. 12 participating editors completed 35 copy edits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: The year's fourth backlog-elimination drive was a great success, clearing all articles tagged in January and February, and bringing the copy-editing backlog to a low of five months and a record low of 585 articles while also completing 48 requests. Of the 30 people who signed up, 29 copyedited at least one article, a participation level last matched in May 2015. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 18 to 24 August, we copy edited articles tagged in March 2019 and requests. 12 participating editors completed 26 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: As of 03:00, 23 September 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors had processed 413 requests since 1 January. The backlog of tagged articles stood at 599 articles, close to our record month-end low of 585. Requests page: We are experimenting with automated archiving of copy edit requests; a discussion on REQ Talk (permalinked) initiated by Bobbychan193 has resulted in Zhuyifei1999 writing a bot script for the Guild. Testing is now underway and is expected to be completed by 3 October; for this reason, no manual archiving of requests should be done until the testing period is over. We will then assess the bot's performance and discuss whether to make this arrangement permanent. Guild of Copy Editors December 2019 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the December 2019 GOCE newsletter, an update of Guild happenings since the September edition. Our Annual Report should be ready in late January. Election time: Nominations for the election of a new tranche of Guild coordinators to serve for the first half of 2020 will be open from 1 to 15 December. Voting will then take place and the election will close on 31 December at 23:59 UTC. Positions for Guild coordinators, who perform the important behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our project running smoothly, are open to all Wikipedians in good standing. We welcome self-nominations so please consider nominating yourself if you've ever thought about helping out; it's your Guild and it doesn't run itself! September Drive: Of the thirty-two editors who signed up, twenty-three editors copy edited at least one article; they completed 39 requests and removed 138 articles from the backlog, bringing the backlog to a low of 519 articles. October Blitz: This event ran from 13 to 19 October, with themes of science, technology and transport articles tagged for copy edit, and Requests. Sixteen editors helped remove 29 articles from the backlog and completed 23 requests. November Drive: Of the twenty-eight editors who signed up for this event, twenty editors completed at least one copy edit; they completed 29 requests and removed 133 articles from the backlog. Beliefs of people who definitely have a stake into the technology are cited in the section on "Philosophy and Ethics" of article on "Artificial Intelligence". A balanced approach towards the subject is possibly required by including a section on SCOT. Although, a neutral unbiased viewpoint will be much better. Guild of Copy Editors March 2020 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2019. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2020, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. The next election is scheduled for June 2020 and all Wikipedians in good standing may participate. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here. March Drive: Currently underway, this event is targeting requests and backlog articles from September to November 2019. Drive and blitz reports March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. "Unexplained edit" isn't grounds for undoing an edit. If that rationale was adequate, we'd have a bot do it. You actually have to look at the edit and see if it lacks merit. Hi Neiltonks,

I saw that you accepted an IP edit for the Criticism of Sikhism article. The protection that the page has for new and unregistered users is a result of my request for such back in September, for that precise edit. It is periodically reinstated by a user who is very likely using a variety of IP socks, refuses to discuss his proposed edits as advised by multiple users, has been reverted by multiple users, has engaged in edit war behavior, engages in bad faith, and has possibly been at this for years, not months. I wouldn't want to draw you in any conflict, as low-intensity as it may be, but I'm not sure that clearing that edit is advisable, as it is the sole reason for the protection that was seen fit to be given to that page. Voting opens at 00:01 the following day and will continue until 31 December at 23:59, just before "Auld Lang Syne". Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. December Blitz: We have scheduled a week-long copy-editing blitz for 12 to 18 December. Sign up now! Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community. Hello Neiltonks-

I’m the author of the Jamie Lynn spears edit that just got canned-I’m writing now just to try and fill you in on the particulars of the situation, which objectively make it hard to argue against the edit’s inclusion.

The edit as written absolutely had to do with her-the entire reason i put it there is she’s spent the last few days as one of the most talked about public figures across social media for lying in both the book she’s releasing next week and the media blitz she’s been on to join up publicity for its release. Also, beyond the current interest in jamie Lynn, her family is one of the most newsworthy in America not just now but in perpetuity…..the material in the edit is a condensed and sourced aggregation of what literally millions have either publicly weighed in on or closely followed in the last week. The three sentences about her husband were integral to explaining a currently unfolding event of some public significance that is sure to only grow wider in the immediate 1-2 weeks. Nobody cares about her husband’s work background, they care that the facts as listed in the ad it would make it seem as if Jamie Lynn was being intentionally deceptive, at a time when she’s faced other allegations of improprieties and dishonesty regarding her sister (Britney) and the legal wrangling over Britney’s conservatorship. Trust me here, this is not an issue that I personally care about but I literally know dozens if not hundreds of women from age 18ish to 60 that are obsessed with all of it. I get the sense that you shut down the edit because you aren’t particularly familiar with this situation, it’s present Notoriety, or why it’s relevant. A cursory search on Google can you show you how many news articles have been written about the spears family even in the last month-their family dynamic is probably the most widely followed situation in American pop culture as of right now. And to just once again make it clear, what I put in the ad it was relevant, deeply so, not because anybody cares about the husbands history, but because the actual record of that history creates the impression (for some) that Jamie Lynn lied to try and gain shared prestige, which regardless of opinion is considered news. It would be malpractice not to address this on Jamie Lynn’s Wiki.

Hello Neiltonks, it's not that I'm making up missing birthdates, to then feed them to Wikipedia. However if the most relieable source is in pdf format, I just don't know how to do it. Otherwise I would have re-added the date and this link: http://www.danielearchibugi.org/downloads/papers/2017/11/Archibugi-CV-September-2017.pdf As my main realm is german wikipedia I apologize for not being able to get it right. Revert of edit regarding stripper uniforms

I was wondering why you felt that the edit and external link were inappropriate. I believe the additional content expands the information on outfits worn by UK strippers. I appreciate that I have used my site as as the cited source however we employ strippers and regularly send them out on jobs and the article is based upon our industry experience and knowledge. It is a well known fact that strippers attending parties in the UK will often be asked to wear unforms however this is not addressed in the current content. Possibly you would give opinion on whether or not you feel this article would be worthy of citation and could also add to the knowledge base. https://www.hunksandhoneys.co.uk/strippers-female/female-stripper-earnings or does the fact that the article appears on a stripper hire site automatically exclude our website from being cited? @Max Strip: The website being commercial doesn't automatically prevent it being cited on Wikipedia but it does make it more difficult because Wikipedia policy prevents the encyclopaedia being used for sales or promotion.
