I am the PR person at Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP. Justice Frye serves as Of Counsel to our firm. According to Justice Frye, this is statement is inaccurate. He was not the first African American to graduate Law School at UNC. Justice Frye was the only African American in his class, but Harvey Beech (J.D., 1952), J. Kenneth Lee (J.D., 1952) [1] and others graduated UNC Law School before Frye (J.D., 1959).

Justice Frye requests this reference removed from his bio on Wikipedia.
