Hoang van Chi

[edit]

Hi. I understand you're asking for help on that page. You seem to have made a very good job of the translation. I'm going to make some changes so as to put it in the usual Wikipedia format. If I make any mistakes due to my lack of knowledge, please correct them. Itsmejudith 08:37, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I am so moved that you have stopped by, read, and put effort into editing this article. You made me happy. Thanks again. BTW, have you had any prior knowledge about Hoang Van Chi? Ngoc ly 05:53, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I'm another editor and I've fixed the layout (it got jumbled). Also, I shortened some headings and moved part into the text ("Saying NO" -> "Rejection of", etc). I'll watch this page for you. Xanthoxyl 13:54, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ngoc ly 15:35, 13 July 2007 (UTC) Thanks all. I will review the changes. Please continue to help. Ngoc Ly[reply]

Ngoc ly 15:40, 14 July 2007 (UTC) I donot know how to add references to the page. I tried but it didnot turn out right. Please give me some pointers. Thanks.[reply]

A tag has been placed on Nhân Văn Giai Phẩm, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -WarthogDemon 22:31, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ngoc ly I plan to translate it, but I will do an article with a title in English version. you can go on and delete this. Thanks. Ngọc Lý.

Cải Cách Ruộng Đất

[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles, as you did with Cải Cách Ruộng Đất. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. -WarthogDemon 22:39, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nhan Van paper

[edit]

Please stop posting articles consisting of nothing but external links and requests for help, such as Nhan Van paper. Don't post unless you're prepared to do the work to write a full article yourself. NawlinWiki 22:51, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ngoc ly 22:58, 13 July 2007 (UTC) I am trying to tag all the important points to be explained in the main article "Hoang Van Chi". I will come back to work on each points. In the mean time, it is helpful to list some sources and references. I hope when I create the tags or new articles, scholars with more knowledge about this field will come in to help. This will give us more exposure for the points to be covered in the main article Hoang Van Chi. Since Mr. Hoang Van Chi lived in a very complicated time of Vietnam history, and his life interwoven with many other events, I am hoping to have many helping hands from my community to work at the same time. I will come back and work on each article, but it will take too long and be boring with just my point of view. Hope my thinking sounds logical to you. Thanks. Ngọc Lý.[reply]

You've created new articles on notable subjects, very good for a new user. It's also clear you're willing to learn. It would be really good if you would join WikiProject Vietnam (shortcut [[WP:Vietnam]]). You can post any requests for help there and I'm sure a lot of people would respond. It's a new project and your contributions would be valued. Itsmejudith 09:11, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ngoc ly 16:49, 17 July 2007 (UTC) Thanks, I will check into this project and think about your suggestion. In the mean time, please remove the tag about references on the article Hoang Van Chi for me, it is not appropriate any more. About the NPOV of the HVC article, give me some suggestions (how you yourself would change it) so I can understand your point. Thanks.[reply]

Changes made

[edit]

Hi, I went ahead made some changes so that it doesn't appear that the article is endorsing Mr Hoang Van Chi's viewpoints. Then I took off both tags. Of course you could still change it back to how it was, and anyone else can change it at any time. But in my experience the article is now acceptable.

One thing now is that there are references with numbers on, 7, 8 and 9, but it isn't clear what points they refer to. You can add a reference by enclosing it in tags <ref> at the beginning and </ref> at the end . Or just add the numbers in and I will change them to references. Itsmejudith 18:06, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ngoc ly 19:58, 17 July 2007 (UTC) Thanks for the changes.[reply]

[1] I feel unconfortable with the change you made for subtitle:"Decline a position from South Vietnam Government". (changed "dictatorian government to South Vietnam government).

The specific detail here was that Hoang Van Chi left due to the ditatorship, he would have stayed and serve under any South Vietnam government that was democratic.

If you feel that the word "dictatorian" is not neutral, then how about when Diêm himself confirmed it with Nixon and clarified that he had no other choice since it was war time [When I (Nixon) spoke to him (Diêm) of the excesses in 1956, he defended his actions by pointing out in dealing with the Communist violence and arm insurrection, ordinary peacetime rules of conduct would let to Communist victory. "We are at war", he said, "and in war it is neccessary to use war time measures" ](Nixon - No more Vietnams - New York: Arbor House, 1985, pp 38,39.)

How would you defined "neutral" in this case? I feel that to be neutral, we (you and I, any Wikipedian), should not take side, but respect the point of view of the author in the article.

What do you think?

[2] I am a little confused as of how you define "reference". The format used here seemed more like "footnotes" to me. If it is footnoted, then one should cite the pages as well. Many references in Wiki didnot cite the exact pages. References only refer to sources, not footnotes.

However, I will try to work within the defined frame work from now on.

Thanks again.

I just saw your earlier question. No I didn't have any knowledge of him before. I just saw the page on Articles in Need of Translation and thought I would have a look although my Vietnamese is very elementary. I am interested in this period of history.
1. I thought you might be uncomfortable with that change, but I hope to be able to convince you that it matches Wikipedia policy better. It is the idea that Hoang Van Chi left because of the Diem dictatorship that is the problem, because there isn't any source for that. Without a source it is speculation, see WP:NOR. Perhaps he wrote somewhere "I had to leave because I didn't agree with the policies of the dictatorial regime". Then that could easily go in the article. Or perhaps someone else said that about him - again it could go in the article, citing the source. It still would not need to go in the subheading.
You are quite right that we should not take sides. I hope you will agree that to have a factual and informative article about a person is respectful anyway. When the person has written about politics there will be different points of view and we need to represent all of them fairly.
Yes, there is some confusion about footnotes and references. What the mark-up language calls "references" creates footnotes. It is usually helpful to include the page numbers. Different ways of dealing with references are allowed, and you can see what is considered to be best practice if you look at a few featured articles (click on Featured content in the navigation box on the left hand side of every page). Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Le Travail Movement, by SkierRMH (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Le Travail Movement fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

solely an external weblink - no context

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Le Travail Movement, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 22:57, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good on you for creating the article. I did a bit of wikifying. See if you like the former pupils done as a list - this is quite common in WP articles about educational establishments. Itsmejudith 18:29, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ngoc ly 05:15, 22 July 2007 (UTC) Thanks. I appreciate all your help.[reply]

I remember what it was like being a new editor. There are points made above that are actually in violation of WP:Civil. A hint: if you want to start a new page, just write one sentence and then tag it as a stub. See the history for the article sportswear which I created and others have extended (although that article is not referenced whereas your new Le Travail Movement article is. If the stub is related to Vietnam type {{Vietnam-stub}} at the end. Nearly always the title of the article should be in the first sentence. Put it into bold type by enclosing it in triple quotes. If an editor proposes deletion, it is not meant personally. You have already created several articles on subjects that are definitely notable. However, I am not sure about the article on Hoang Van Chi's wife. If the article is proposed for deletion you would have to show that she is a notable person in her own right, not just the wife of someone notable. Itsmejudith 20:42, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ngoc ly 06:19, 24 July 2007 (UTC) Thanks, I will check into what you tried to tell me. About Hoang Van Chi's wife, I think she is notable in her own right, and what if Hoang Van Chi would not be notable if she was someone else? (just a little twist, I know what you are trying to say, will try to see if I can make things better in your view point.)[reply]

a note on article neutrality

File source problem with File:Hoang Van Chi.jpg

[edit]
