Hi, The Bushranger, and thanks for the welcome. I honestly don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I work for Mario and am trying to tidy up his Wikipedia entry, including the erroneous date of birth, and expand it a little. Obviously I understand that word of mouth from the subject himself is unacceptable as a source, and I'm trying to dig up alternative sources to correct the birth year * nationality issues. I'm also reading up as much as possible from Wikipedia's tutorials and the missing manual, but it's very frustrating when every tiny change I make gets reverted. So far the more extensive edit I am planning is in my sandbox (and it really isn't that massive) but some of it relies on the source you have today called into question. If you could explain further why the source at issue doesn't make the grade, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Nick, if you work for Mario, you might want to take a look at WP:COI. My main concern with the date is that most of the sources provided don't rise to the standard provided by WP:RS; most Internet "database" sites don't have the proper degree of editorial oversight to make them suitable sources. If you can find a print source (race program, perhaps?) where Mario's nationality and date of birth are provided, then that would be perfect; otherwise, most of these sources - especially where they seem to have very recently have the date and/or nationality changed in them recently, themselves - can't override a more reliable source that gives the 1957 date. As (with no disrepect to either of you) on the Internet, anybody can claim to be anything, and without an ironclad soure to change it, "I know it to be true" isn't enough. - The Bushranger One ping only 01:12, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - understood about the COI; I'm not planning to try and make the entry all wow and puff up Mario's achievements. Whilst I work for him, I'm more interested in Wikipedia's reliability than I am in flattering the boss, and Mario's aware of that too. I'm hoping for a short entry that's a little more than a stub that has the correct biographical information and a brief, accurate summary of his achievements. I'll spend tomorrow looking for better sources. Incidentally, can a print source be scanned and then uploaded, and if so, should it go in Wikipedia's own uploads and then be cited from there?
