Death (Old Kingdom)[edit]

Hello, remember me from the requested move for Abhorsen? Good advice there. I put more into it, but there's much left to be desired. Anyway, as you seem to know a good deal about Garth Nix books, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on an article I want to start. It's going to be about Death, the Nine Precincts/Gates, etc. from the Old Kingdom series. I was thinking of "Death (Old Kingdom)." Can you think of a better name?--The Ninth Bright Shiner talk 00:56, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Orannis, yes I remember you. :)
As for the name, you've got a good one. The only changes I would suggest would be changing the bracketed text to "(Old Kingdom series)" or "(Old Kingdom series location)". On the other hand, as with all articles of this nature, we need to consider whether or not the location merits an entire article, in terms of length. Since there is no large location article even sandboxed anywhere, I'd say that the creation of such an article would be a good idea - better to have the material when someone creates a summary article. In fewer words: beware that your article does not become a candidate for deletion! Later on, especially as we head into summer, I'll have more time to spend on this stuff and we'll probably be able to get all the material together for a summary article, like the one Abhorsen's sandboxed. Thanks for asking me, and I hope we can work together soon! Nihiltres 22:43, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How about "Death (Old Kingdom location)"? I was thinking of leaving out "series" because, well, there is no real Old Kingdom, except for the one in Nix's books. On the other hand, there are a lot of old kingdoms out there...bah, name isn't that important for now.
Anyway, I'm going to try and start drafting the article in my sandbox with no sand. The central problem is...I don't have Abhorsen. Or any of the Old Kingdom books...oops. The good news is that I've memorized the basics on all nine of the Precincts. I'm sure I can get another Nix fan to help with stuff I can't remember, and the basic description of Death. As I get out of school in a week, all final tests are over, and this is a free weekend, I'll probably be working on this at top speed!
But how could anyone take a Wikibreak?--The Ninth Bright Shiner talk 00:23, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's near completion! Cool! Almost forgot about that thing... Anyway, it'll be up to you (or somebody else) to verify that stuff; I no longer have the book, but I'm pretty sure about that stuff. As for the hole/whirlpool, it's a giant hole with terraces you can walk on, which creates a giant whirlpool. So it's both, in a way. Bah.--the ninth bright shiner talk 21:01, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that passage is near the end of Abhorsen. I thought you knew that; I would've told you earlier instead of having you skim through the books.--the ninth bright shiner talk 21:08, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
ALRIGHT! My first article! Cool. I owe you one for your great re-writing/re-wording.--the ninth bright shiner talk 02:36, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hm...where would we fit this into {{Old Kingdom}}?
Well, although there isn't really any category that it fits into, I'd say that the closest section would be "Magic". I'll add it there for now and put up a message on the template's talk page. Nihiltres 18:37, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Userbox: User Friendly[edit]

Sure, if you created it, I'll give you permission to move it to your userspace. -- TheGreatLlama (speak to the Llama!) 22:33, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the friendly-box fix :-)[edit]

Hi,

just wanted to say thank you for the fix. Lately my presence here is very spotty and I didn't even notice the problem. BTW, I've always wondered why the "danger" sign... do you know anyone good at graphics willing to create a really friendly image? :-) —Gennaro Prota•Talk 00:32, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, glad to help! I'm going through and helping people listed under the "What links here" section of Template:User friendly to help with the general userbox migration backlog - appropriate for me to fix this userbox, since I made it :) . As for the "danger" sign, well, I thought it was a good choice when I created the userbox, in terms of an alert. I used it because it seemed important that people notice that the person using the userbox was friendly - too many strangers ignore the fact that the person sitting beside them wherever they are might be a cool person to talk to and chat with, regardless that they don't know each other at the start of the conversation. On the other hand, it might be a good idea for me to craft something a little more obvious - I have enough skill with vector art and Photoshop that I could easily make a more obviously "friendly" image. Nihiltres
P.S. I should add a userbox to my page saying that I have some skill in graphics work. Know of one? 00:50, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Aha, I see what the intent was. In fact, however, it also suggests an idea of danger, which shouldn't be the case (unless one wants to say: "Hey boy, this guy says he wants to be your friend. Beware!!!" :-)). Unfortunately I don't know of any userbox to signal graphics skills. Perhaps Mysid knows one; and, well, even if he doesn't you might enjoy talking to him, as you say above :-) —Gennaro Prota•Talk 22:30, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE : Thanks for fixing my friendly userbox[edit]

I'm new here, thanks for fixing my friendly userbox, made me realise I had a few userboxes that were migrated, got them all fixed as well.

Cheers! GSCC 18:13, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to help! Nihiltres 18:15, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

You've probably gotten too many messages for this, but thank you for rerouting the link for my friendly userbox! With all this userbox migration and German Userbox Solution I can never keep track of what is being migrated, deleted, etc. Thanks for helping! By the way, what is "Transcendental Pluralism?" Is that like polytheism? I always like to learn more about religions.  Jeremie@theLab

No problem, I'm glad to help get the migration done.Transcendental pluralism, as I understand the term, means that one believes that every religion is right in its own way. Any person may have their own god or gods and be worshipping or upholding the right deity(s) or ideal reality for oneself. It does not mix any religion in any way, but says that each is right in that they have a good goal - it doesn't matter whether it's Heaven, Paradise, Salvation, Nirvana, or just being a good person. Nihiltres 21:02, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow...that answer just solved every philosophical question I had been dealing with! I see that you are a fan of reimagined Battlestar Galactica. Same here! Did you see tonight's episode?  Jeremie@theLab
Yeah, I'm a fan - but I haven't seen the latest episode; I watch TV as video files on my computer - I'm only halfway through the second season of Lost, but Lost's third season just started. So I'll be waiting for a while to see the latest BSG ep - probably see it within a week. :) Nihiltres 14:58, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You could join Battlestar Wiki and get updates. I'm a user there, and it is extremely helpful and has a great community.  Jeremie@theLab

Me too[edit]

I'm thanking you for the care you took on your friendly template on my userpage:) However, as I personally don't agree with this move, I prefered to remove it altogether (which, of course, doesn't mean I'm not friendly anymore! :) --Vlad|-> 21:19, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. This move is a big shake-up, and I've seen more than one user restart their userbox collection. I'm just glad that people have used it as much as it has been! Nihiltres 23:49, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Me three...[edit]

And I'd like to thank you as well for fixing my friendly userbox!!! Much appreciated... :) misternuvistor 02:22, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fatigues (as in uniform)[edit]

How about battledress? --Russ (talk) 17:39, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That looks like it! Thanks! I changed the Fatigue page to reflect that, since there wasn't a link to battledress before, and redirected "Fatigues" to battledress, since the form with an "s" is rarely used except to mean battledress. I added a {{redirect}} template on Battledress just in case someone links to "Fatigues" while meaning one of the meanings of "fatigue." Nihiltres 00:28, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
