Your request for rollback

[edit]

After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! Thank you very much, I will of course be careful. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 15:37, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hoaxing on Indian climatology

[edit]

The hoaxing is continuing on the Indian climate articles. Most recently from 220.226.38.167. You have more familiarity with the issue than I do. It might be appropriate to put it on the administrators incident board. Shadowjams (talk) 10:59, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have discussed it with a checkuser I know, I think he will look in to it further later today after work. Thank you for helping reverting. :) Njaelkies Lea (talk) 12:23, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Njaelkis Lea, I tried indeed to write on your talkpage a few days ago, just saying thankyou for helping with the blocking of the Algerian vandalism-IP. Perhaps I pressed the wrong button and asked for deletion of your talkpage? Sorry then...--Ilyacadiz (talk) 17:11, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem, if you find more hoaxers I'd be happy to deal with them. And the problem with my talk page was caused by me, the link you clicked was not updated for my enwiki talk page.. Sorry. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 17:17, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you rightly undid several edits by this user. So you may be interested in this report I made about his possible socking. Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 01:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information, I'll keep an eye out for possible further socking. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 10:08, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Algeria, once more

[edit]

hello Njaelkies Lea, the Algeria page is once more quite heavily vandalized... I just cleaned up (part of) the mess. Would be fine if you kept an eye there, Alamawi goes on arabizing the country and a certain new 'Berber-freeman' does the opposite, but seemingly even worse... thanks for any help --Ilyacadiz (talk) 14:46, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will help you of course. We should try to add credible references for the sections they are fighting about. That will make it much easier for people to recognize the vandalism and revert. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 15:04, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, in this moment, Berber-freeman is just reverting my last edit, and that's not even about Berber but about religion, a section which was quite contradictory and almost altogether unsourced a few days ago; I added 3-4 sources there, thought of it as an acceptable job... The pity is, nobody gets to the talkpage. Good to have you here. --Ilyacadiz (talk) 15:12, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I know, we must be somewhat patient with new users though. If he/she continues to vandalize for very long the account will be surely be blocked. Don't let the vandals upset you too much, they are not worth it. :) Njaelkies Lea (talk) 15:18, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, the problem goes on... today (I was absent from the web) Berber-freeman and Alamawi have fought a heavy-handed edit war about Algeria as being an Arab vs Berber country. Terrific. I've just re-established the former version - wished I had rollback permission, but it may be a little early for me to apply for that. I don't know if report Berber-freeman for blocking again - his last edits were at 18:23 and the reply might be that he's not currently active. I'll hang on and see, but if he comes back, he deserves a new block, I think. With Alamawi I get along a little better... Could you help keeping an eye on the page? Thanks a lot.--Ilyacadiz (talk) 21:27, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The problem I have is that I am no expert in Algeria, I can see the edits by Berberman are obviously false and vandalism but it's usually harder for me to argue with many of Alamawis edits. If you feel he or she is intentionally including false information it would be good if it can be proven somehow, otherwise it will be rough to do something about it. But best would be if you can reason with the user somehow of course. I don't know if they would give you rollback, maybe. But try Wikipedia:Twinkle, it works similarly. Neither is a magic tool though, if several users have vandalized you'll have to do it the old fashion way. It works when only one user have made bad edits. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 11:24, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Berber-freeman got blocked again btw. 3 weeks. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 14:24, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw it, it's okay... No, Alamawi is no vandal, he just tries to get a very Arab-ideological viewpoint into the text but after the first few warnings he respected my edits and hasn't deleted them, so I get along with him; he also does source his edits (even if sometimes in a quite biased way) and this does improve the text. There is no reason to block him - just when warring with Berber-freeman he adopted similar methods, but he doesn't do that normally, it seems.--Ilyacadiz (talk) 15:23, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wish every article had someone like you watching over it. :) Njaelkies Lea (talk) 15:43, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the compliment. I wish every newcomer had somebody like you helping them :) --Ilyacadiz (talk) 14:36, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Minerals editing

[edit]

Hi,

I'm trying to suggest one of the best worldwide portal website on mineral collecting (I've got a lot of message from mineral collectors from difeerent countries) as an external link at Minerals word. Mineral collecting is the hobby directly related with minerals.

The portal web site is Mineraltown.com: http://www.mineraltown.com

The website is full of mineral related articles, photos, and information. It don't sell minerals. It's not a commercial site so I think it's very appropiate for wikipedia.

So which is the problem ?

Thanks,

Charles —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.34.22.235 (talk) 10:09, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Charles, I'm happy you are willing to discuss. My major concern was not the link itself but that you were trying to add the link by edit war which is not allowed. If you try to make a change and are reverted you should try to reach consensus on the talk page. I suggest you take the text you wrote me and put it on talk:mineral and see what response you get.
However, in essence, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a collection of links. We do have lots and lots of problems with people adding links to all sorts of web pages and thus we try to restrict the number to a select few, preferably owned by a major organization, state or educational institution. Especially when someones only edits are trying to add links to their own pages people tend to be very skeptical, I hope you understand our problem. Even if you do not sell anything on your web page it is quite full of advertisements which is also a fact people tend to react on.
I hope you haven't lost hope in Wikipedia over this. May I suggest you create an account and maybe share some of your knowledge of minerals? :) Njaelkies Lea (talk) 10:36, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Njaelkies,

I don't like war, no war.

I just didn't understand because the link was removed each time I try to publish it. I didn't know it was the editor I thought the link was removed for someone payed by the other websites. I think this wasn't honest.

Well, It's true there are some typical google ads and other banner at Mineraltown.com but it's a full free website and this is one way to get little money to keep it alive.

In the other hand there you can find some mineral photo galleries, for example pyrite, green fluorite, selenite, dolomite, volcanic minerals from spanish locations so important as Eugi, Papiol or Pina de Ebro I think is difficult you can find them at other websites.

I accept your decission and I just want to invite you visit MineralTown.com often and please feel free to add it as External Link if sometimes you think this is right.

Best regards,

Charles —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.34.22.235 (talk) 21:36, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again! It's not my decision alone to make if your link is to be included or not. I don't decide over this article or any other! Everyone on Wikipedia have a right to express their opinion and then we take a decision together. We act on consensus, or try to anyway. One of these consensuses is that you can't edit war, which is why I removed your link.
As I wrote you can try to argue for the link on talk:mineral, if you can show that your link adds something we don't have and none of the other links have either maybe it will be accepted. I'd guess it won't though (but I won't argue against myself). Maybe you noticed I removed one of the other links as well as I didn't think it added very much to the article and was quite dominated by advertisements. Note also that Wikipedia uses some sort of nofollow tags (not sure what the exact term is) so links included here won't affect your google ranking which many people including links hope for.
I wish you the best of luck with your web page Charles. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 09:47, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

My name is Oscar. I would like to state that I consider removing Spanish as an official language is a mistake. Spanish is still in use in Republica Arabe Saharawi Democratica, and the Frente Polisario uses Spanish in all its communications. By the way, Frente Polisario is an anacronym from Spanish. I wonder why they prefer to use Spanish and not Arabic, English or French. Based in the following from you "... My reasoning: Arabic is the only official language in both Morocco and for the Polisario Front, so whatever the outcome of the dispute, it would be considered the official language of the territory", shows to me that there is a lack of research and therefore this information is not accurate and does not reflect the reality of language use in the RASD. There is no way to know that, in fact, Arabic will become the official language in case the RASD gets independent. That is just your personal opinion.

On the other hand, Spanish is still taught in schools by volunteers and Spanish-speaking saharawies who want to preserve this language as a way of communication. The RASD looks for recognition in Latin America and they have sent representatives (and are sending) who speak and communicate in Spanish only. I think this is a very important fact that add some value to the language topic in the RASD taking into account that these emisaries would be the ones that will rule the country in case of independency.

It is true that you asked for feedback and nobody replied back with information. Then, I understand you had to take the decision yourself. I apologyze for the late response.

I want to request a change about language status, and ask you to add Spanish at least as a second language spoken in the RASD. By the way, I have information to share in case you need it.

Regards,

PS: I think I entered this information in a wrong place before, under some comments from you about hoax figures. I apologyze for that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Niconinis (talkcontribs) 09:48, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Oscar! I am not a specialist on Algeria and I have no personal opinion on which language(s) is official in Algeria. I try to watch over the article however as it has been the target of hoaxers and similar vandalizing edits. I am not sure exactly what edits you are talking about but if I have mistakenly identified your edits as vandalism then I apologize. I'd urge you to raise this discussion on Talk:Algeria, provide any references you may have that support your claims. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 11:55, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Njaelkis Lea, that one was aimed at me... Niconinis refers to the Western Sahara article, where I deleted (after asking) a few weeks ago the mention that Spanish is one of the languages of this territory. He has already put the same text in my talkpage and I've copied it to Talk:Western Sahara as to stir a fruitfull debate, my own answer already given. I just had a look and I discover that in fact another edit war (not involving Niconinis) has started there, somebody trying to get absolutely the Spanish language into the article, but some admins are keeping an eye on it; I'll do also. Cheers.--Ilyacadiz (talk) 23:54, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Good good. :) I assumed it was Algeria related but I should have realized it wasn't. Didn't read it so thorough as it looked misplaced. Njaelkies Lea (talk) 13:16, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
