I'm curious where you got this image of Rhonda Fleming, if it is supposedly public domain. Do you have a source? —Mulad (talk) 07:09, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

Rhonda Fleming[edit]

Hey there. The Rhonda Fleming photo is from an record album from the 50s, which if I think makes it PD.

Hi! thanks for the brush up on that article, if you want to know why it was up for deletion, just go to the page history and read the edit just before the one I did. It probably should have gone to the Bad Joke section! :P Keep up the good work! see you 'round the wiki! Hamster Sandwich 04:32, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Steve,

I noticed you provided a screenshot from Out of the Past for the Jane Greer article. Could you provide another screenshot from that film for the film noir article? Currently the Out of the Past poster is there, but it doesn't give a good indication of film noir's visual style. We could use an iconic Mitchum (with Greer?) image for the article, featuring some if not all of the standard iconography: cigarette, trench coat, fedora, gun, light & shadows, etc. Thanks! --Kevin Myers 22:50, August 24, 2005 (UTC)

Good job on the screenshot, Steve! I put it in the film noir article. I hope to work now and then on the main article, but I probably have too much on my "to-do" list to expand individual film articles right now. Hopefully some day soon. Keep up the good work! --Kevin Myers 13:29, August 25, 2005 (UTC)

re: Madigan[edit]

Thanks for the comment (sorry for being a little [just a lil' lol] slow in replying). And really great job with some of the film noir articles. WP seems to be lacking in many of the arts/humanities related articles (unless its someone ungodly famous, like the dreaded Mariah Carey). Keep up the good work. Guy Green[edit]

Hi. I noticed you've listed Guy Green as dying on 16 September. You did this edit about 4 hours ago, when it was about 6am in Britain. If the date is correct, you must have added his name a maximum of 6 hours after he died. This barely seems possible. Can you confirm the date? Cheers JackofOz 10:19, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I added a more specific stub type and a non-stub category to this. When creating a stub article, please try to give it as specific a stub-category as possible. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types for the list of approved stub types. Also it is helpful to assign a non-stub category, or more than one, whenever possible.

Do you know Mr. Sparkuhl's birth date? And his death date if he is no longer alive? If so that info should be added to the article, please. Thank you. DES (talk) 04:04, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Fleming.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fleming.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Arniep 15:13, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Promo Photos[edit]

Hi you really need to say who created photos on Wikipedia so people can work out who owns the copyright i.e. Image:Cabot Bruce.jpg Image:Regis Toomey.JPG. If you aren't sure who made them try and use a public domain photo or a screenshot, DVD cover or movie poster as it is known who owns the copyright of these. Thanks Arniep 16:47, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I think the problem is the need to be absolutely sure about who is the copyright holder. If you can't be sure who that is or exactly what the source of the image is it is best to stick to images where you can be sure as the ones that don't have a documented source will get deleted under the new policy. Regards, Arniep 22:23, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
it is a pretty bad idea to get images from a search engine i.e. google as most pages that show up don't often say who made the image or who is the copyright holder. Try http://www.imdb.com click on the photo gallery link on actors pages i.e. on this page http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0484808/ . If you choose pictures that are obviously publicity stills from films (not at awards/parties/premieres/anywhere else) it may be possible to argue fair use for these (as long as they are accompanied by commentary on the film). Or in the future to ask permission, at least we'd know who to ask permission from as the author or copyright holder is documented on all imdb photos. You could also try http://movies.yahoo.com (avoid all wireimages photos). Regards Arniep 22:32, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi it may be a good idea to avoid MPTV photos on imdb as I have just read the terms of use here [1] and it seems that they are running a business on the reproduction of these images so Wikipedia's free use of them may be damaging to them so wouldn't be fair use. It appears that publicity photos of older films pass to mptv when they gain some kind of collectable market. So really unless there are photos in the studio stills section of imdb, try and use a public domain photo or a screenshot. Arniep 23:14, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox Movie[edit]

Asking User:AzaToth such questions would yield better results. I'm not a template wizard like User:Shawnc and AzaToth. In fact, I'm no longer a contributor to Template:Infobox Movie. Template:Infobox Company is my domain! Mwahaha! ;) Adraeus 00:48, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: new infomovie box[edit]

I was holding back on changing the articles using infoboxes 2 and 3, because 1 is not very stable at the moment with all the changes still going on ('original story' 'new version story' and 'screenplay' were just removed, for example) and it would be stupid if we had to change everything again. I'll probably start changing articles later this week when the infobox is more settled. --Fritz S. (Talk) 16:55, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bot to fix the infobox[edit]

Yes, I would, since the template is currently a confusing mess with all the fields (if that's what you meant). All of the infoboxes are fixed so they don't actually look bad though, barring human error (people checked through every single page that used the infobox). The only problems now are with the names of certain fields, like name/movie_name, caption/image_caption/image caption, language/movie_language, which should be simplified into one version at some point (there's no real hurry with this, since it shouldn't affect any actual movie pages, unless someone messes up with the template again). - Bobet 14:18, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review[edit]

Now that the page on The Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation is almost complete, I am asking you to determine whether it is eligible for featured article status. Read its peer review page and leave any comments inside it.

(Right now, to speed things up, I am creating articles for the red links embedded inside that article [only to ensure its future status]. See this page if you're interested.)

Someone needs Leonard Maltin's Movie and Video Guide to complete the article (with his comments on the film from that book). Do you, or does anyone you know, have a copy? --Slgrandson 16:04, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adjusting movie infobox for series films[edit]

Is there any way of adjusting the infobox to allow "preceded by"/"followed by" fields? I'd like to do that with House of Dracula and the other Universal horrors so I can get rid of the double infobox. Cheers! 23skidoo 12:43, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps a compromise might be to create an infobox template specifically designed for series films, maybe based upon the already-existing Bond film infobox. That way standalone films can use one and films in a series (not films that had sequels, mind - I'm talking obvious series) can use the other. Thoughts? 23skidoo 13:15, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent work on the Universal template! 23skidoo 16:55, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just haven't had the chance, and I haven't actually seen the Invisible Man or Mummy films myself. I have seen the original Creature film, though. 23skidoo 05:25, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Steve, thanks for filling out the infobox for this movie, but I think that the title of the article should be in English, even the DVD cover shows the English rather than French title. I don't want a revert war so I'm not going to change it back, but could you explain why you moved it back to the French title? Thanks --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 13:52, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hunt for Red October[edit]

Hi Steve. Why did you feel it was necessary to split The Hunt for Red October into a separate film article? I thought it was well-explained on the sole The Hunt for Red October article that there was both a book and a movie. The problem here is that either the film article will never be more than a stub, or there will be a large duplication of material between the articles. I think they should probably be merged back together. Any thoughts or where you're thinking you're going with this? —Cleared as filed. 12:15, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Long Goodbye[edit]

Hi Steve. Why did you delete the entire Film Adaptation and External links sections from The Long Goodbye? I don't see any reason for that material to be deleted. And please make use of edit summaries when you're making major edits like this. I have reverted your changes; if you have an issue with these sections, please put your thoughts on the article's talk page. | Klaw ¡digame! 15:36, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I disagree. The movie isn't notable enough or different enough to merit its own article. I've proposed that the new film article be deleted and that the text all remain in the main The Long Goodbye article. Before making a major substantive change or deletion, it's good practice to discuss it on the article's talk page, as others may disagree with such a major edit. Of course, if you're just adding text to an article, even a lot of text, this step usually isn't necessary. | Klaw ¡digame! 21:39, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Steve! I have reviewed the film and novel articles for the above title and changed my vote to a keep on the film, as the information in both is sufficiently different to warrant more than a mention at the end of the novel's page. Why the Move?[edit]

Why did you move Necessary Roughness (film) to Necessary Roughness? There are three different articles that I am working on with the title Necessary Roughness, one is for the film, another is for an album, and another is for a novel all with the same name, Necessary Roughness. I was told by an admin. to create all the articles first then a disambiguation could be created letting users go to which one they are searching for. So I ask again, why the move?

Potential movie poster problem[edit]

Hi. I noticed around WP that a robot (OrphanBot) has been tagging unsourced movie posters as "no source" and "image should be deleted after seven days" tags. Specifically, the last message on your talk page -- you simply deleted the tag. However, I don't think that will work for long (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use). I'm in the same situation, as I've uploaded many posters under the assumption of fair use without providing a specific source. Eventually, a legitimate source will be necessary for all the posters or a lot of film articles will be missing them. Any ideas? (I think this is a potential nightmare waiting to happen: hundreds of robot postings on talk pages.) Volatile 06:31, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The only difference between the Bond posters and others that have been the victim of this bot-monster is that the other ones featured a "© - YEAR - Production/Marketing Company" and then the following notice:
"The poster is intended to provide an illustration for a well known and significant film, and the purpose of the poster is to suggest something of the film's style. Of the various posters available this is the most appropriate, because unlike some others it is from the period of the film's initial release, and was widely distributed to promote the film.
This image is used on various websites, and has been published in several books, so use on Wikipedia does not make it significantly more accessible or visible than it already is. It does not detract from the original and is used for information purposes only.
For an article about a film, the original poster is arguably one of the most important images that could be included. Various posters and artwork have been produced over the years to publicise this film, however this is the original artwork, intended by United Artists for wide distribution. As such it has historical significance to the article. It is a more appropriate choice than other images that were designed for limited releases, re-releases or for foreign markets."

This may be a way to override this bot, perhaps? I'm going to wait until I get some notices, then I'll use this treatment for them. Volatile 06:50, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Steve[edit]

I'm a huge film noir fan and it seems you have been doing some great work on the noir Wikipedia pages. I had a lot of noir pages over at Movie Tome. I'll be adding some neo-noir films to Wikipedia and add some film noir information to the ones you have worked on: taglines, quotes, trivia, links, and such. I'm trying to keep a uniform look: Intro, plot, awards, quotes, taglines, trivia, and external links. Again, super work! Check out some of the films I've started and/or added to and feel free to let me know if you have suggestions. By the by, I have 200 films in my noir collection. Thanks for uploading Image:Floydcollins.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Desert Fury[edit]

Hi - I've just noticed that the Infobox you laborously created for this film was trashed by a subsequent user's edit. I am wondering if this was basically vadalism, or if you know of some good reason for this seemingly odd action? Notmicro 11:27, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John Alton[edit]

Nice job with John Alton's page. I'm adding the occasional film composer who is not-so-well-known, so it's nice to see others doing the same for another group of artists I admire: cinematographers. Thanks. Davidatwikip 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Image:Robert Donat.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Robert Donat.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Fair use rationale for Image:Farley Granger.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Farley Granger.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Hi Steve, With regards to the above, I have replaced the image with a public domain image. As each image is/was used solely to identify Farley Granger, I figure that one is as good as another, and the public domain one is acceptable. Rossrs 13:09, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
