Argument[edit]

I was just wondering where to complain about the 'Five Pillars of Wikipedia'. To me it sounds like the five pillars of Islam with all of their rules. I am not Muslim myself, but I fear that some Muslims could be offended. Where should I put my argument? Thanks Quiggers1P (talk) 21:17, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To be honnest, I dont see how they could. However, the place to raise the issue is WP:ANI. Sophie (Talk) 10:58, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sophie, You've answered this on my talk page. Chances are, the user looking for the information will never read it unless you place a TalkBack alert on their talk page linking back here. -- Matthew Glennon (T/C\D) 12:38, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
True, althought some check back every now and then Sophie (Talk) 12:43, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it does no harm to let them know.

Quiggers, someone will manage to take offence, no matter what we call 'em, but feel free to suggest an alternative - however, ANI is not the place; you should comment on Wikipedia talk:Five pillars - but do check the archives first; I would imagine this question has been discussed in the past. Concensus can change, of course, but personally I don't see a problem; our Muslim editors seem to be more preoccupied with the "great cartoon debate" etc. Chzz  ►  22:22, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Great Organization![edit]

Hey Matthew! I just wanted to say that you have the best organized user talk page and archives that I’ve seen at Wikipedia. I thought mine were well-organized, but yours take the cake! Keep up the good work. — SpikeToronto 23:55, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. If there were a barnstar for this, I would award it to you! — SpikeToronto 23:56, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I like how you do so much follow-up; how you put notes in your archives to indicate how an issue was resolved; how you sub-divide into each month of the year; etc. Even your user page is so perfectly laid out and sub-sectioned. <sigh> You’re the paragon of organization that we should all aspire too … er … perhaps laying it on a bit too thick, but you get the point. Btw, I did notice that Wales’s archives are indexed and that he has them auto-archived. Most of the heavy-traffic admins also do that. I manually archive mine, since I do not get sufficient traffic to warrant auto-archiving.

I do have a question for you: How did you make it so that when an editor presses the New Section button, it creates a Level 3 heading (i.e., ===H3===) instead of the usual Level 2 heading (i.e., ==H2==)? I looked at the coding at the top of your talk page and could not find anything unusual. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 05:36, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, thanks again. Oddly enough, the system does it for you when it finds a level 1 heading for the month in place already. I too archive mine manually, mainly because I'd rather move things to the archive when I'm done with them instead of when a particular time has past. -- Matthew Glennon (T/C\D) 12:53, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation. Now I get it. The New Section button just creates a Level 2 heading, always. So, by you using Level 1 headings for the months, it has the effect of sub-sectioning below. Thanks again! — SpikeToronto 19:01, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Actually, if you use any of the automated notification applets like twinkle or HUG it will check for a month heading and add it automatically if it doesn't exist. You only have to do it manually if you're the first one for that month and just leaving a note. -- Matthew Glennon (T/C\D) 22:09, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again! — SpikeToronto 00:32, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

February 2010[edit]

Thanks for the Ideas[edit]

Hey Matt! I followed your lead and have added month/year headings to my archive pages. It makes finding stuff a whole lot easier! (Also, I added a {{search archives|small}} box to my talk page and archives, which also makes it easier to find stuff.) Wait, there’s more! I also stole one of your amboxes to create a unique vandalism warning for anyone editing my userpage. You’re a great guy to steal from! Anyway, seriously, keep up the good work! — SpikeToronto 20:14, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

April 2010[edit]

Welcomes[edit]

Hi Crazysane. Thanks for your hard work welcoming new users. However: please don't welcome users who haven't made an edit yet. It interferes with some forms of vandalism patrol, it's a waste of time and bandwidth as 99% of new accounts never edit anyway, and it has been held against people in past adminship discussions because it looks like edit count inflation. Cheers. REDVƎRS 13:37, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome Back![edit]

Nice to see your return! Hope all’s well. — SpikeToronto 17:23, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks! I'm probably one of the most on-again-off-again Wikipedians you'll ever meet. When my life gets really busy, Wiki-time suffers. Thanks again! -- Matthew Glennon (T/C\D) 19:23, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

May 2010[edit]

Things to note[edit]

When helping people with Semi-protected edit requests remember to change {{editsemiprotected}} to {{tl|editsemiprotected}} so that it is no longer flagged on the IRC help channel.

Also, it is a good idea to transclude {{ESp}} in your edits so that it's more clear that someone has arrived and helped out with the problem or request.

Thanks,

Sig[edit]

Would you mind considering either changing your sig, or changing your username? When the actual username isn't in the sig, it can be confusing; it's not a requirement, but it is highly recommended; While not an absolute requirement, it is common practice for a signature to resemble to some degree the user name it represents. WP:SIGEDITORIMPERSONATE. Chzz  ►  22:27, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • You would rather have my signature contain my username than my real name. I'll consider it, but I argue that with the links to user pages/user talk pages/contribs within the signature, it's really quite simple to know who i am. But I will consider it. -- Matthew Glennon (T/C\D) 12:08, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Done I have changed it. Seems like a moot point to argue. Similarly, people can click on my user page and find my real name. -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 12:13, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Skype[edit]

You might note that at least one of your recent edits also introduced some extraneous text around some numerical characters. This may be due to a combination of your browser and Skype trying to identify and highlight telephone numbers. Thank you. See the repair I did on this page and also another edit of yours--Rumping (talk) 08:22, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I did notice this on another edit and disabled the add-on. Thanks! -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 23:57, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
