Notability Guidelines for Music[edit]

Hi! Noticed that you've created a few articles on bands. Awesome that you have decided to contribute. As you know, two of your articles have been nominated for speedy deletion. Thank you for indicating why you think they should not be deleted on their talk pages -- that's the right way to do things, and it's commendable. I do not have final say so on whether an article actually gets deleted or not, but I wanted to link you to the article listing the guidelines for notability governing music. Check this out. The word "notable" has a very specific meaning on Wikipedia, depending on the type of article it's being used to describe. In this case, the articles you are creating -- in my opinion, anyway -- are not "notable" because they fail to meet any of the notability guidelines. That said, do not want to dissuade you from continuing to contribute. Do not give up[edit]

I can not help you avoid the proposed deletion of the two articles you created; but please do not get discouraged about potential further editing on Wikipedia. You may have been a little ambitious in trying to create new articles so soon after 'enlisting', and might benefit from some general editing to 'get a feel' of the place. There are many (way too many) editors who seem to have no other ambition than to destroy, disrupt, revel in pointless arguments, and/or vandalise Wikipedia - it is good to find someone who has the right approach. Plenty of editors (see above comments) will, I know, lend a helping hand if you are only brave enough to ask. Best wishes,

I was the editor who nominated Embers for AfD, and I want to second everything Derek says here. It's a lot easier to nominate articles for deletion when they're written by editors who have no good faith and are here to disrupt, misinform, and do lots of other general nastiness. It completely sucks to do this sort of thing when the article is coming from an editor who clearly has the best of intentions, and particularly so when the editor puts in so much work (as you have) in trying to find reliable sourcing for their article. So...please do not get discouraged, regardless of how it all goes (and, given lack of participation in the AfD, I have no idea how it's all going to go, heh), because content creators coming from a good faith standpoint are what makes this whole thing work, and that's you. Also, in terms of action you can take to help your cause on the article, anything you can do to prove the Decibel coverage (I still can't find stuff on the Web site -- actually looked tonight in the hope that it might be there) would massively reduce any notability issues, and notability is the only real concern with the article. Again, you've done an awesome amount of work on finding sources, it's just that with the exception of the Decibel source, the sources don't pass verifiability (ie blogs, Myspace, non-notable music review sites, other band sites, etc.). Anyway, just thought some additional "do not give up" coming from a source of your troubles on here might be at least interesting, hehe. Let's Drop This on AfD[edit]

Hey Noodle-

Feel like we're old sparring partners now, hehe.

Just posted a thought on the rapidly expanding AfD debate. I posted my list of your refs with my thoughts, and you posted a responding list which attempts to rebut. I'm sure we both think each of our lists are -far- more valid than the other's. Regardless, I just now posted a note, basically suggesting you and I both walk away from this for the time being. The two disagreeing ref lists are probably the best summary either of us can offer at this point, and we're basically both now guilty of just jamming up the conversation with endless walls of text. So...truce? Let's just watch the conversation unfold, see what people say, and bite our tongues if we feel the urge to jump in. We've both said everything we can probably say at this point. Let's trust the process.

Frankly, a second part of my motive in making this request is that I want to avoid this getting actually heated. We've both done a pretty good job of not going after each other and instead focusing on the topic at hand, but if one lets debates like this go on ad infinitum things almost inevitably start getting off topic, and then boldface text starts creeping in, and before you know it there's all this shit in CAPS LOCK and oh god now an admin has swung by to yell at us and report us to WP:WQA.

Just my two cents.

I usually only find these articles because they show up in my lists of things that are broken and/or need to be fixed or finessed in some way to enhance functionality. Please don't misrepresent the situation. The message I sent you the instant I submitted your article to AfD is still on your talk page, and it clearly states what's going on. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box.
