Robert Hall Baker

Hi- I reduced the article about Robert Hall Baker to a Wisconsin politician stub and added a citation from the Wisconsin Historical Society. You had this marked as a speedy deletion because of copyright violations. I hope this helps-thank you-RFD (talk) 18:01, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Okay, it looks much better. I didn't know what to make of the guy at first.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:38, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks-Robert Baker served in the Wisconsin State Senator. I had been starting articles about the members of the Wisconsin Legislature so this article was not a problem.RFD (talk) 22:04, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Health-EU portal

From the 18th's listings - I'm just trying to work out where I need to Revdel from. Is this revision clean or do I need to go back to the beginning? It's the last revision before the rather promotional "The Health and Consumers Directorate-General is pleased to present" was added. Also I wondered if we could have reverted back to it. January (talk) 19:32, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

It looks like this was the insertion point. You're right, the version prior could have been restored with a little bit more info. I agree with your merge though, I was curious about the article as a stand alone.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:34, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

It's a little late I suppose, but I finally went back over your comments from Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Mount Cleveland (Alaska)/archive1, can you just check back and make sure all of your comments were addressed? Thanks. I intend to retry once I'm back from my two weeks of vacation. ResMar 03:53, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

No problem, I will read the article over again and check my comments this weekend when I get some more time. I will let you know if I have any additional.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:56, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Re Keechaka Vadham Plot

Hi, I did not copy the entire stuff from that website. I only used it as a source for Plot, since finding plot for such movies are very difficult. --Commander (Ping Me) 13:25, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello Vensatry. You're right, the plot wasn't copied entirely but most of it paraphrased as you can see[1]. In that form, the text in the article is a derivative work of thesource and can't be used on Wikipedia. The website doesn't cite a copyright so one must be assumed unless permission is verified. I understand plots are difficult to reproduce without watching the film. I would like to suggest rewriting a smaller plot or e-mailing the author andasking for permission to license it CC-BY-SA for use on Wikipedia.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:37, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Hmmmm okay. I'll reduce the size of the plot. --Commander (Ping Me) 14:03, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

WP help

I contacted Pfly and he says he doesn't remember how to do the assessment. I don't know of you can help me make it since you replied at shannons page. Spongie555 (talk) 22:18, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Okay, where is the task force located? Is it falling under Wikipedia:WikiProject Brazil? It is good to append the task force to a project banner, like MiHist does. It keeps clutter down on the talk pages. I can alter theBrazil project banner to include a field for Task Force Empire of Brazil. After that, the cats get created and hooked into the bot, etc.--NortyNort (Holla) 01:34, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
It could be either under WikiProject Brazil or Former Countries but doesn't matter which one you chose.Spongie555 (talk) 01:54, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
I feel like we'd be putting the cart before the horse here. A task force page hasn't been created nor what project it will be under. This could be a lot of work developing an assessment structure for a task force that hasn't launched or may not gain enough interest. Both the Brazil and Former Countries WikiProjects are tagged for being semi-active. More guidelineshere.--NortyNort (Holla) 02:56, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
I was actually asked by User:Lecen to create it. Even though those projects are semi active there is quite a few people interested In the Empire of brazil if you've seen the work they put into getting articles related to it to FA. He has been organizing them to make the task force but didnt know how and asked me. I havnt made the main task force page yet as I been trying to make it in my sandbox so I don't mess up but I'm having trouble. Spongie555 (talk) 07:31, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Okay, well I will take care of it this weekend when I have a little more time...and patience.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:39, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

I made the categories at Category:Empire_of_Brazil_articles_by_quality and made a request to amend the Former Countries project tag here. I suggest moving your page for the task force to Wikipedia:WikiProject Former countries/Empire of Brazil task force as soon as possible. Once the coding is placed in the tag, articles can be tagged. From there, when the bot runs, an assessment table can start.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:34, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your help. I moved the project into the main page. Once the assesment table is up i will try to improve the projects main page. Spongie555 (talk) 18:33, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Okay, well it looks like you're all set up now with the assessment chart and all. Good luck!--NortyNort (Holla) 22:58, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes I saw thank you. I just have one question do we have to tag every empire of brazil article with the former countries banner or can we just tag article with a empire of brazil task force banner? Spongie555 (talk) 23:55, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, you would. The task forces falls under Former Countries and its banner. The only other way around it is to add the proper categories to the talk page. I noticed today it may seem odd to have Pedro I tagged by Former Countries but I think it makes sense.--NortyNort (Holla) 03:47, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, NortyNort. The Azad Dam article needs attention as it is unclear which dam it is and where exactly it is located. Unfortunately, there is no reliable sources in English about this dam. Maybe you are able to assist with this article.Beagel (talk) 16:24, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I found the right one and updated the article a little bit. This looks like the dam and a location here and [2]. I can't confirm much else that is in the article, based off the Persian references. I know this dam has a diversion feature associated with it and the consultant is Mahab Ghods Consulting Engineering Co. but they don't list it intheir projects. I think this dam is part of a larger water conveyance project, the Zagros Long Tunnel. I will do more research and see what I come up with.--NortyNort (Holla) 03:06, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. Great work. Beagel (talk) 04:45, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

POV fork with copyvio/plagiarism/close paraphrasing

There has recently been some concern raised atthe India project talk page regarding probable POV forks of a semi-protected article. I took a look at three of these and all of them demonstrate issues with copyvios, plagiarism and close paraphrasing. They appear to be an assembly of various book sources + some web content. The worst case appears to be Kurmi History.

I am loathe to waste any more time going through them because it seems clear to me that even if they survive the POV fork debate, which is unlikely, then they fail the copyright case & we would be making a bad situation worse if we tried to merge the forks. Simple deletion of the three articles on copyright grounds seems to me the obvious route to follow. What do you think? -Sitush (talk) 10:48, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Just seen your null edit re: Scindia. That article also looks like a copyvio - I have already removed some stuff from Kurmi History which was identical to content in Scindia & taken from a book. I'll go through it later. - Sitush(talk) 11:05, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I can take a better look if you'd like. In Scindia, source looks suspicious as well but it was created after some of the text was already in the article. I suspect a mirror.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:23, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Take a look?

I'm trying to clean out Wikipedia:Contributor_copyright_investigations/Thisthat2011 and came acrossthis edit on Kashmir. It appears to be just a copy of the previous section above nothing else, but before I noticed that I found that this itself appears to be a copyvio and close paraphrase from the two sources for the section. I'm getting a little too confused on this particular thing, can you take a look? cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 09:56, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

That's interesting; a duplicate of the same paragraph w/ a slight copyedit. Well, that text was added back in October 2010,here. The editor who added it also expanded the article much more text in that period. I will have a close look at those edits based off of that copyvio insertion. I removed both of those paragraphs as well.--NortyNort (Holla) 10:51, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Out of those 23 October 2010 edits, it appears the other paragraph the editor added was removed. The massive byte size of the expansion also appears due to duplicating several Google books references and references quotes which AWB helped clean up.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:01, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, this is quite strange indeed and very confusing! —SpacemanSpiff 12:07, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Dear NortyNort, I rewrote this wiki page 6:04pm 15 July 2011. Could you approve and move it back to the main page, removing the copyright warning? Or tell me what else to re-edit? Thanks! Schmiebel (talk)

Hello Schmiebel. There are still portions of text from the sources in the article, particularly the journal. See a comparison from the recreational plan [3] and the journal [4]. I suggest rewriting the entire portions from the journal. I tweaked some text matches from the recreational plan. The entry for this article can be found here.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:16, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
NortyNort, I'm sorry I missed rewriting that whole last paragraph and some of the History section too (too many wikipages to work on!) but it's done now and hope you find it OK now. 22:46, 19 July 2011Schmiebel (talk)
I tweaked the text a little and it looks good. I marked it at WP:CP for a merge. CP is pretty backlogged nowadays, so it may take a little while for an admin to clear the case and merge the article.--NortyNort (Holla) 10:18, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Norton II

Why would'nt you support expanding Emperor Norton with information from this website?--Whoop whoop pull up Bitching Betty |Averted crashes 21:06, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

I wouldn't consider the site a reliable source. It also appears to be self-published and hasn't been updated in awhile. If Norton II were to become notable and covered in secondary source, I could see it being included.--NortyNort (Holla) 03:20, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
The forums were last updated six days ago. (I should know, being one of the members.) So there goes one of your arguments.--Whoop whoop pull up Bitching Betty |Averted crashes 11:40, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
...The weakest of my arguments. The forum has 8 members and forums should never be used as a source.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:46, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Frying another of your arguments: Even websites like that are reliable sources about themselves. So it could be used as a reliable source for information about the so-called Imperial Government of Norton II in Exile. --Whoop whoop pull up Bitching Betty | Averted crashes 12:53, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Rarely, see the policy on primary sources. In this specific case, that website would only be used as a reference point for Norton II, if the figure were notable. But first and foremost, notability has to be met. I could go make my own website on Norton III, it doesn't mean it belongs in the article.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:02, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
No you couldn't, because Norton II isn't dead yet. --Whoop whoop pull up Bitching Betty | Averted crashes 13:58, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to the page about the artist Sergey Lunov. I'm new to wikipedia and that was my first article. I'd like to add an image or 2 and do not know how to do it. it says i need to have 10 edits to be able to upload images. do you know anything about it. thank youKatya.ua(talk) 11:41, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Yes, once you make 10 edits, you become auto-confirmed and can upload images. If you are going to upload images, the best place is the Commons. Images uploaded there can be shared on all Wikipedia language projects. Usually, only proper non-free images are uploaded on just Wikipedia. When uploading images though, do be careful of copyright. If you don't have permission to upload the image on Wikipedia, don't or it will be deleted. See the image-use policy for more. If you have any questions or need help, let me know.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:04, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

What's the problem with the geometric tomography page? The definition given on this page (before you deleted it) is the definition. There is no copyright on definitions. And also not on the text at the back of a book. I cannot understand why there is such censorship on the Wiki! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.159.71.67 (talk) 11:46, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Well, those definitions/explanations were taken from copyrighted works. One could use brief portions if in quotes and attributed to the author but pasting the text in the article is a copyright violation. The copyright policy may be able to give you more guidance.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:56, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Well, it seems to me quite a stupid idea of deleting this entry instead of putting quotes around the text (note the book was cited in the references). How can I restore the article? — Preceding unsignedcomment added by Tomograph (talkcontribs) 10:37, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

The article was nearly verbatim from the two sources, so putting the entire article in quotes isn't plausible.--NortyNort (Holla) 15:33, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Relisting under today's entry

Hi, NortyNort. :) Just wanted to point out that when you use CPC:u, you actually do have to relist under today's entry. :) Now that our bots are down (I just wrote Verno for a final attempt to touch base; if he doesn't reply, I intend to try to seek out a replacement), we can't rely on them to do the relisting for us. I relisted the one at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2011 July 23under today.

In other news, I'm very concerned about the death of CSB. :/ I've left a note atWikipedia_talk:New_pages_patrol#Copyright_crisis to request extra attention to the issue.--Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:53, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Mohun Bagan A.C.

I recently removed loads of blatant copyvio from Mohun Bagan A.C.. Someone has just re-added the History section and although it is not full-on copyvio this time, it is in my opinion a pretty close paraphrase ofthis and other history sections at the football club's official website. I would be grateful if you could cast your eye over it just in case I am being too harsh in my judgement.

If you agree that the bit that I have linked to is too close for comfort then I will go through the rest of the history & compare with the recent addition before either trying to fix it or deleting it. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 18:23, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

No problem. I had a look at the recent years and it seems OK, I am going to look at the first half of the section later. The English seems to be pretty poor there and in need of a copy-edit as well.--NortyNort (Holla) 22:06, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I can do the copyedit if that is what it boils down to. It is, in fact, much better than the official club website on that score (at least, for example, "riffle" is correctly spelled as "rifle"). - Sitush (talk) 23:00, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
That might help clear up some of the similarities as well. It can be tough using a single source to write a large section like that, it makes it hard to avoid close-paraphrasing. I did rewrite one paragraph in the article that was entirely too similar to the source. There was also some factual inaccuracies in that paragraph compared to the source and it had the wrong reference. The rest looked ok, but I may have missed something.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:02, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
OK, thanks very much. I will add it to my to do list. - Sitush (talk) 22:07, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Stephen Decatur page

CC: Stephen Decatur talk page

Hello NortyNort, First my apologies for not responding sooner and for the edit with the copyright issue on the Stephen Decatur page. Some times I will edit in a general statement closely worded from a given source, reorganize/word it and then build on it, using more reliable sources. It looks in this case that I never got around to this passage in that regard. I would be happy to make any corrective edits immediately but as you must know the page is tagged and can't be edited at this time. I am wondering if this was necessary, as almost anyone could have made a corrective edit. I often make similar corrections (usually for lack of citations) in my travels. When I first came to the Stephen Decatur page in Maythe article was tagged for lack of citations and was lacking them throughout the page. As for the article's tone and such, it does paint Decatur in sort of a biased way, but not such where any meaning or history has been altered. Again, my apologies. I would be more than happy to edit/correct any issues the page has. I am also hoping that the editor who said 'he' (alone?) will "overhaul" the page will do so without deleting information and approach the page in a constructive manner. I am quite familiar with this subject and have several hard texts for sources and know of and am familiar with many others and will be more than happy to take on any issues and work with others who would also like to bring the page up to WP standards. Regards,Gwillhickers (talk) 21:54, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

I did delete the page that had accidentally been created, but I moved the comment to User talk:Жоффруа, where it was obviously intended to go. LadyofShalott 03:02, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello again, NN'. -- The comparison chart you had generated has been a big help. Am correcting the longer passages with similar wording in the 'Rewrite'. Assistance- Monkey's 9711

Hello, thank you for your advice. But may I ask, what if this image was my own work, would I still be able to place it in the plot?Monkeys 9711 (talk) 00:14, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

You should but, theoretically, but check with the image use policy first. I have never seen an image in a plot and am curious what is would be of?...if not fair-use.--NortyNort (Holla) 05:32, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
To avoid further complication, what if I were to place an image below the plot section? Monkeys 9711(talk) 22:09, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
What is the image you plan to use? This would help me answer your question better.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:23, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Here is the image I had planned to use. File:Legends-guardians-photo2.jpg I just uploaded it a few minutes ago, and it is not used in any articles, which could be a problem. Monkeys 9711 (talk) 21:19, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Yea, it appears to be orphaned. Honestly, I don't think the article needs the image. I know the characters were redesigned but I don't think this NF image is needed to demonstrate that.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:17, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Alright, I guess I will have to leave it at that, which I was really hoping not to do, as the page looks completely bare. Is there any other way that is not complicated to place an image on the article? What if the image was my own work? Monkeys 9711 (talk) 01:42, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
A lot of pages look bare and its unfortunate you can't put any picture in an article. If the image is your own work, go for it but be careful of derivatives, i.e. taking a picture of or recreating a copyrighted work. Copyright is a pain but it exists for a reason. Honestly, pictures in film-related articles are tough; you get one fair-use cover and the rest is pretty much pictures of the cast or shooting locations.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:26, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
I agree with you 100 %. It is a pain, but we will have to deal with it unfortunatley. And thank you for pointing out derivatives, if that is what I end up doing, (own work) I will be aware of them. Thank you for your help, it was greatly appreciated. Happy editing! Monkeys 9711 (talk) 21:05, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks.. -- btw, while tending to the Decatur page I linked to the Thomas MacDonough page (naval office who served with Decatur) only to find that the entire article was cut and pasted from the Delaware Military History web site. It's been this way since 2008! I've begun rewriting it a bit. Have already entered several RS to the bibliography and will write and cite from them. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 08:39, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
That's unfortunate. I have been working in copyvio clean-up areas for a few months now and it is certainly an epidemic on Wikipedia. Good luck, if you need help, let me know.--NortyNort (Holla)12:18, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Three Gorges Dam Project - Locks

I have pruned the entry and have added wikilinks, to comply with your suggestions (of some time ago). Arrivisto (talk) 14:39, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I know someone commented that the delays weren't mentioned. I think that is represented now. I know they are working on the pylon cylinders now. Your edits made it easier for readers to understand I think.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:37, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

JS Group

I am not adding anything promotional on JS Group page. It is based on facts. Why do you keep deleting the changes I make? If an organization enjoys a good credit rating then what is wrong in it to mention it here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ABGamma (talkcontribs) 04:22, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

What you call promotional stuff is truth about the organization and deserves to be mentioned on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SdAnAi (talkcontribs) 04:30, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

This and this is promotional and non-neutral. "Enjoys". I have never seen a credit rating section in an article unless of course a company's credit rating is notable for whatever reason. Otherwise, it appears that you are trying to showcase the company. Other edits made by you and other similar users indicate an effort to clean out the article of 'bad press'. Some editors in the past have tried to add too much bad press. I will have a better look at the article soon. If you are associated with the company you should be careful when editing.--NortyNort (Holla) 08:05, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Its is requested of you that while you review this article, clean it of the bad press which is either baseless and cannot be verified from independent sources or from unreliable sources such as blogs which are personal opinion of the bloggers. This bad press is portraying an overall negative image of the company. — Precedingunsigned comment added by SdAnAi (talkcontribs) 07:31, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Lost Page History

Hello again NN'

As you know back in early August the Stephen Decatur page was suspended pending copyright issue fixes that were being corrected on a temp sub page (which no longer exists). In the process when the rewritten article was transferred back from the temp rewrite page the page history before Aug.8 disappeared. At the same time my 'Deleted Edits' count went from about 66 to more than 450! Is there any way to restore 'all' of the page history to the existing page and if possible, to return my deleted edits count back to where it was also, as the existing count is misleading as the page was rewritten, not deleted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. --Gwillhickers (talk) 06:51, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

I will ask Moonriddengirl as she is the administrator who performed the action. I do know most actions on Wikipedia are reversible but given the copyrighted content that was removed, it is unlikely that many of your edits will be restored. The original page history can be restored though.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:29, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. I overlooked that you had modified an earlier version, believing that you had rewritten it from scratch. I have restored the history of the article, including your contributions to it in case your rewrite incorporated any content from later editors. While edit counts are not part of our concern here, your edits will show in your edit history, although they are not accessible. (See [7]).--Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:52, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
NortyNort, Moonriddengirl,
Thank you both for your prompt replies and fixes(!!), however I am not sure what is meant by"...your edits will show in your edit history, although they are not accessible". Just curious. Once again, a big thank you! for all of your help. (CC: to M'girl) -- Gwillhickers (talk) 16:12, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Your welcome. You can see your edits in the page history but you can't view the diffs or different revisions because the visibility of the content was changed.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:57, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

socheid talk page

Hi there,

I just noticed this comment that you added:-

"Given your talk page, it seems you have a problem with copyrights"

Can you clarify what you mean please by 'problem'?

Socheid (talk) 10:17, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

With licenses, using copyrighted or unknown licensed text in an article. I see you tried to repair the text at RAF Dumfriesbut some of it is still similar the source in questions. See the comparison[8]--NortyNort (Holla) 13:12, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Edits for JS Group

Hello. I am sure that you are aware that we have been trying to make some edits in JS Group's page but for some reason all the changes we make are reverted. The previous edit that I had made was reverted by you, you had mentioned that "Alteration to lead does not maintain a neutral tone -- this is an encyclopedia.", I am actually not sure what you mean by that can you please help me out here. I have the whole article ready but I am not uploading it right now as I am not sure if it meets all the guidelines (I am new to Wikipedia). Please tell me if I can send that article to you first and you can view it before-hand to see if it complies with the policies or not. If you are unable to do it then please advise me how I can get that done. I ask you this because every time I upload the article a new user reverts the changes and I am confused on how to go about it. Your help would be appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haider 118(talkcontribs) 12:21, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

I can look at it if you'd like but am not around Wikipedia as much this month. With neutrality, see the policy of NPOVfor more guidance. Sentences like "JS Group controls and operates market-leading financial services companies in Pakistan" and "JS Group is the result of endless struggle and vision of Mr. Jahangir Siddiqui" aren't too neutral and give off a promotional vibe. Essentially, an article can't read like a company's website. That last sentence should read something like "JS Group's founder and owner is..." There have been some problems with that article in the past and a few editors now watch it carefully. If you have any more questions, please let me know.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:12, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
